I've been watching your channel for many years, and as you said, the 5th scale gas community is absolutely amazing nation wide. It's so much more fun and easy going than smaller scales from my experience. I've been racing everything from 1/10 and 1/8 offroad and onroad for about 25 years, and 5th scale is where it's at for pure fun. Competition is still there, no doubt, but everyone is so willing to help and share their setup. Sometimes, that's not always the case with the smaller stuff. I personally run Spektrum 5th scale servos and Bartolone pipes and engines. The Bartolone end bleed buggy pipe you showed is what I run on both my buggy and truck, and I have a stack of 1st place plaques to prove that they are excellent. I'm really looking forward to a lot more 5th scale content from your channel! Good luck and have fun!

Arthur Henk well said ive been heavily looking into one of these Losi 5T 2.0 and I think it would be a great starting point. Sometimes I am over the smaller scale and all the fighting and arguing between brands on those sizes. I had a BAJA 5B and 5SC years ago and they were a lot of fun but always wanted something “nicer”. And the people running big scale do take it pretty causally and will help and offer tuning advice or upgrade advice etc. It truly is the most fun you can have on land with RC plus everyone loves seeing a big truck like this run wether they are into RC or not.

I've had 5Ts for years. Cost wise, it isn't really that bad, a out of a box Losi 5T gas is about the same price as a moderate build 1/10th scale 4x4 clay track buggy, once you get to the electronics, wheels tires, etc. Around $1,200 or so. The tires are a little bit more expensive, but you don't have to change them as often. When you go brushless, just remember the drivetrain wasn't designed for that level of torque an electric system will bring on, make sure to adjust the ESC to be softer at starts. Most of my 5th scale is now electric, but I still keep one gas because it's just cool.

Would love to see an electric motor conversion... I love my SC truck, but I like how these 1/5 seem to behave on the track...

Edgar and I race our 1/8 scales out there. Getting into 1/5 soon. You are right. Live the community of racers out there. So much more laid back and way less clicky.

I was racer since '92 and got myself a Venture SBK scale truck last year. I can tell you, it's a blast. Driving the truck over more and more difficult terrain feeds the competitor as well. 👍

Enjoyed the video. I own a HPI BAJA 5B. I miss running it since they closed a Track south of me. I enjoy off-road and onroad R/C all scales.

We probably come from the same mold. I’ve been an RC racer for decades and I’ve ran almost every type of RC vehicle. When I lived in Germany I ran 1/5 scale gas on-road. That was the most fun I’ve had in racing. Fast forward some years, now I’m retired but I always wanted to learn about machining so I got a job at a local machine shop and now I can make some cool parts for my cars. I’m just getting back into racing and I started with a Losi TEN SCTE 3.0, however, the 1/5 short course truck is really where I want to go. Anyway, thanks for sharing. I’m keen to see what mods you come up with.

Hi, may i have a little tip for you? Get an Olimat pipe. I've had both Olimat and bartolone and tbh olimat outperforms bart. They are just not rl popular in states. Also losi servos are not half bad they are rebranded savox. Another tip take a little string and use it to tie these little nuts for the bottom screws into your cage they tend to fall off and get lost BTW always use the bottom screws without them cage will break like it if was made out of glass and with them its pretty hard to break. And ofc get a kill switch. Another tip is run motocross oil instead of lawnmower or hobbystore oil much beter performance.
@tontobb89563 жыл бұрын
Good advice on the olimate. You made the decision for me. Olimate it is for my new 2nd hand 5t

Congratulations!!! Welcome to the large scale portion of our hobby! The Hitec servos you bought are actually great! No reason to spend 500+ on servos in my opinion. As I understand it the Bartolone pipe is definitely one of the best available. Victory also makes really nice pipes, I have three myself. Enjoy your new rig..I look forward to seeing videos! Hope you and your family are staying healthy!

I wonder if you were to do 5th scale club racing, would they allow an electric converted 5t to run with gas? doubt there would be many other electric 5th scales.

Is the TLR Electric Conversion Kit (which is now long discontinued, but still found on ebay) compatible with the 2.0? I'm assuming, due to the chassis differences between the 2.0 and original, that there are at least a few mods or drilling you have to do.

Nice thing is, they can somewhat marshall themselves. Normal pipes won't stop them, and they rarely get stuck!!

Hey Jason, Been following you for years. I been working for Jay Pierson for 8 years now, I think you own some of our products? I'm interested in seeing if this track is still open and if you are still going to be making parts for the Losi 5T. I have a 5T but haven't ran it much and i just picked up the DBXL 2.0 Thanks, Hopefully I'll run into you one of these days.

I got my first mainstream 1/5. It is a hpi baja 5t. I am in the process of converting it to electric. It was too beat up to kept gas.
@magicalminis5974 жыл бұрын
You may want to stick with gas as 1/8 and 1/10 are where its at for electric. Gas 1/5th scales are what set these large machines apart from the other RCs.And I think you'll see a up-swing in popularity with 5th scales and gas 2 strokes.
@powcar914 жыл бұрын
@@magicalminis597 Yeah I though about staying with a gas engine. But the more I looked into the 5b the damage I found. It had a lot of damage to the gas components. Plus I wanted to see if I could do an electric conversion. I am almost done, just need to make a battery tray that incorporates. The steering servo since it has symmetrical steering .

The gas engines don't require that much maintenance. They aren't nitro engines. You don't have to do after run maintenance or oil changes or anything like that. At most you should just empty the fuel tank if you aren't going to run it for a few weeks and clean the air filter every once in a while. That's it.
@wolverinebear53573 жыл бұрын
Gonna make stuff for that truck hit up RCsparks
@jayaneyon93164 жыл бұрын
You should just give it a whole new engine like an obr. She needs some real horsepower those stock lawnmower engines are pretty slow.

@radneverp4 жыл бұрын
Don't convert it :) Replace the air filter with something aftermarket from D@M racing and get a turtle racing clutch.
@leethomas7694 жыл бұрын
I found with the gas stuff the maintenance in regards to the engine etc is bugger all espresso compared to nitro they are not even close. Most of your time is spent cleaning and checking over/maintaining the chassis which does not change weather its gas or electric anyway. The gas motors just go for ages and are so much cheaper to fix unless you are going for the crazy big horsepower engines.
@michaellucre82494 жыл бұрын
Ok now where talking 🤙
@Captcasper74 жыл бұрын
Watch those blue servos, they burn out very quickly
@abullock19954 жыл бұрын
I will respectfully disagree. I'm running the same set in both buggy and truck as when built. They have been abused and have held up nicely. That said, it is time for a nib back up for truck steering, it's getting a little weak in the middle. Cheap insurance for a servo I spent about $90 on.
@Captcasper74 жыл бұрын
In the uk LSOR Nationals we went through 8 servos in one meeting spread across multiple drivers
