I've been a subscriber for well over a year, probably watched all your videos, even the very old ones....this is my first comment. I just wanted to tell you how much I really enjoy your videos Nick. You put so much work into making these videos. You have a GREAT eye for capturing your environment. You nature cinematography is absolutely fantastic. You pull the viewer in and make us feel like we're there with you. The music, your commentary, the scenery, and of course...the fish. I truly enjoy your content. Great job fishing in this one, love those little rainbows. I look forward to your next video....so, until then: "see ya later buddy" =)

The first fish that you asked us to identify is a large creek chub. A creek chub almost always has those spikes on its head as well. All of the cool looking black spots on it are parasites that are underneath the skin.

Those are mites from bird poop and they get in the water and life continues from there, very common occurrence by me, there’s MANY ways to combat it but no water management place will spend the money for it! I’m certified to do it, and only can name 3 places that do so, all places require memberships too and they manage the places well. It’s sad

We called those "Horned Daise" not sure what they were but they love stagnant or small creek waters. They were plentiful in our trout stream, and I caught them on red wiggler worms. They averaged 5 inches to 8 inches. Anything 7 inches and bigger we would keep and boil, then strip the meat, mix it with egg, parsley, paprika, bread and cracker crumbs, and fry them to a golden brown and eat "Horned Daise Chub" and tarter sauce sandwiches for lunch. With homemade fresh french fries. And Dog N Suds root beer.

@@saw6436 There was a Dog N Suds in Waterford (Ft LeBough) Pennsylvania next to the river. It was just like a Happy Jax or Sonic, and the servers wore roller skates. Mom would take us twice per month for burgers and 1 quart vanilla ice cream root beer floats for each of us little guys. Long drive but well worth it. We'd buy the brown plastic keg looking gallon of root beer and take it home. It would be finished at dinner, the whole gallon. No other root beer I've ever had came close to the flavor. Every now and then Dollar Tree and Big Lots has Dog N Suds root beer, and it's good, better than A&W (hard to beat A&W) but still lacks that foamy great root extract flavor of the old days.

@@MissionaryInMexico My family moved from Olympia Wa, to Asheboro NC when I was 5 years old. There was a Dog N Suds UNDER the "Dixie Drive" overpass. I too remember taking home kegs of root beer but I remember the hotdogs the best. Not a good as a LUMS hotdog but damn good none the less.

Great video. Great channel. You are fortunate to have accessible fishing opportunities around you. In my neighborhood, most fishable water is either 'property locked', or shoulder to shoulder crowded. Even the few impoundments are inaccessible unless you have a boat. Outflows are fenced in due to liability and 'terrorism' fears. There's always a Karen or a cop.

That first fish was, in fact, a creek chub. They can attain a length of ten inches, but there have been records of 12” specimens. The tiny black dots are glochidia, a small parasitic stage of many freshwater mussels. They usually do not do great harm to the host fish, but mortality is possible. The fallfish several commenters have cited is exclusively an eastern species of the genus Semotilus (same genus as the creek chub). Fallfish can attain a length of nearly 20” - but any over 14” is considered very large.

I do a lot small stream fishing in Ohio at a spring fed river, my favorite and most successful lure has been a mepps 1/8 oz spinner with silver blade and black skirt, the rainbows and browns love it!! Keep up the nice vids my friend!!

Those rainbows are some fierce fighters and are a beautiful fish. My opinion the native brook trout we have here in Virginia are the most beautiful fresh water fish I have ever seen. They too are a fierce fighter which makes them fun to catch. Thanks for sharing!

That first fish looked like a Fallfish. Essentially a big species of chub. They're kind of silvery and alot of folks don't think much of them but they fight nice. Good work out there brother!

definetly not. unless its a regional varient, its colors are off, and it doesnt have the little horns on its head. they also definetly dont have black spots all over them, though i suspect thats an illness. i caught far more than my share of fall fish this past summer. they *are* giant minnows, essentially. lots of fun.

Hey Nick, maybe you know something I don't, but I know you are fishing a blue ribbon stream (wont say which one because you like to keep spots secret) but just wanted to say you can keep 1 trout that is over 18 inches in the blue ribbon streams, but i prefer letting the natural ones go too, especially since Missouri has plenty of opportunities for catch and keep trout fishing otherwise another great video Nick, love seeing you get excited over trout, now we just gotta get you to lake taneycomo so you can catch a giant

Hi Nick, great video. I’m a Missouri guy myself too. If that is a Blue Ribbon stream you’re fishing, I’m not certain you can use treble hooks. I believe they exceed the maximum hook limit for lures and flies in those regulated areas. You may need to clip hooks or swap singles for the trebles. I do this regardless of the regulations. You may miss a fish or two, but it’s easier on the fish and better for mortality. I love your vids and look forward to the new ones every week. Fish On, brother!

@@piggconstruction3907 i thought that too but I couldn't find any literature saying blue ribbon is single hook only, its says flies and artificial only, so he can use lures with treble hooks

@@piggconstruction3907 I thought the same thing about the treble hooks but I can not find anything in the regulations about it.

Great day of Rainbow fishing/catching. Maybe someday you could come to Maine we have amazing Rainbows beautiful, strong, aggressive (tasty too if so inclined). I really enjoy what I call your "refrigerator bait selection" (the coloring, chicken, beef, pork, etc.) it's fun and very entertaining. Videos are fun to watch. A topic for future video, could you discuss the spillways you choose, are they from power generating hydro works, reservoirs, farm impoundments. just not a feature I'm familiar with. thank you wishing you a great Spring fishing season.

The dark vertical bars on the sides of the trout are called "parr" marks indicative of juvenile fish. I presume, and hope, this means the McCloud (River, CA) transplants are reproducing well in the lovely stream you visited in this video. Thanks
