For Memory Loss books I think the one that did it best for me was Project Hail Mary, I can't remember if you've read this or not but it's a sci-fi book even non-sci-fi lovers enjoy, so for anyone who is interested in Sci Fi but not sure where to start, I recommend this

If you are looking for good sapphic recs, I would HIGHLY recommend Mistakes were made by Meryl wilsner and it’s on KU! Another good one on KU is the Senators Wife by Jen Lyons. I don’t hear these talked about enough and they are amazing sapphic reads with all the angst and sexiness you are looking for

I loved Forget Me Not! It made me realize how much I love romances that center around weddings.

On the Same Page was so good!! The characters were so real and their friendship (with a rocky start) to romance was so believable to me.

ooh i have two favorite reads from january! the first is ‘little thieves’ by margaret owen, it is a ya goose girl fairytale retelling that features goddesses that raise a child and demand her lifelong servitude in exchange, a girl who has been in survival mode her entire life, thieving and stolen identity and curses, and facing the consequences of your own actions. the book is very fantasy, but there is a prominent romance subplot that has one of the best enemies to lovers romances ive read in a long time; the chemistry and complicated development of the relationship was so good (caveats: although imo it works as a standalone, it is the first book in an ongoing trilogy, and although the main character ages are solidly teens they read more like young adults and i think should have been aged up). the second book is ‘queen bee’ by amalie howard, it is a ya regency historical romance that is kinda like bridgerton (minus the sex) meets mean girls; the cast is extremely diverse and has two mixed south asian leads, and it is a deception plot about a girl who was betrayed by her ex-bff over a duke and consequently disgraced and discarded by everyone, but has now come back years later with a fake identity and a long game revenge plot for both the ex-bff and the duke. the book switches between past and present, so you learn more about what happened to the heroine and the relationships she lost (and gained) as the book goes on, and i thought the tension and magnetism between the two leads was really good for a ya historical. nothing was really invented with this book, but it was a lot of fun and deeply satisfied the need i had for a swoony regency with leads of color!

Out on a Limb was my fav of January. Bo gave me alllll the heart eyes. 😅

Another AliHazelwood that was a surprising 5-star for me: Bride! So unexpected, a little quirky, but so good!

Yes! I read "When You Least Expect It" by Haley Cass (as well as the accompanying novella) in December and loved it so much that I used my Christmas money to buy the author's ENTIRE backlist haha. I'm so excited to work my way through her books this year!

Hi! I'm an epidemiologist and I work in genetics. I had similar feelings about Love Redesigned and how it was labeled as infertility. In a medical setting, infertility is the inability to conceive after a year or so of trying without intervention. This wasn't the issue the FMC had, however what she was going through is very much an issue women and families go through and a great opportunity for the author to shine a light on that, yet I think it was done pretty poorly. Correct me if I'm wrong (the book was very mid so I don't remember) but it's only mentioned that the FMC has a recessive trait, not what kind. If it was autosomal recessive (like the example you gave where both parents have to be carriers and baby has 25% chance of disorder), the other parent could simply get a genetic test to see if they are carrier as well. X-linked recessive means that any male offspring would have the disorder (like hemophilia) but female offspring would only have the disorder if both parents have the trait. This often results in similar interventions (IVF, egg donation, etc) as someone with infertility, but they are not the same. The author doesn't differentiate and I think it just shows that it was a poorly used plot point that wasn't researched at all to add some drama, I guess? Infertility and genetic disorders are complex issues that affect so many, I think it deserves a bit more thoughtfulness than a passing plot point in this book and carelessly labeling it as infertility. Sorry for the novel, you said "correct me if I'm wrong" and I didn't think you were so I thought I'd let you know!

I picked up The Blonde Identity because I wanted to read another book like Siri, Who Am I? It's a fun "memory loss romance" with a mystery element. It definitely requires you to suspend your disbelief (the FMC literally gets released from the hospital with amnesia??) but it is an absolute romp. Ratings on Goodreads are abysmal, it is certainly not groundbreaking literature, but it was FUN.

The best books of Jan for me were The Right Sign by Nia Arthurs and, right when I was dipping my toes in the non-fiction universe things went so well because I really enjoyed Caster Semenya's The Race to be Myself

For memory loss recs “a cowboy to remember” by Rebekah Weatherspoon is, in my opinion, gold.

Me watching this while I had The Blonde Identity in my top books last year. 😅 My favorite read in January was Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao. It was so good in my opinion. The hype for it is well deserved. 🧡

My favorite books in January were Yerba Beuna by Nina Lacour and Best Laid Plans by Karla Sorensen.

I think you'd love Time to Shine. Same author and the Game Changer series. The two leads are the best. It's so sweet.

I started off January with several rereads. 2023 was just an okay reading year and I wanted to be sure I started off this year enjoying what I read. I was taking no chances. 🙂 With that said, one of my five star reads was a standalone fantasy Blood over Bright Haven by ML Wang. Since you are branching out, and it’s a standalone, maybe give it a try. I also gave The Roommate Risk by Talia Hibbert 5 stars.

I had 10 5 stars reads in January. The top 3 were In The Weeds by B.K. Borison, Always Only You by Chloe Liese, and Sir Callie and the Champions of Helston by Esme Symes-Smith (Middle-Grade)

My favourite book I read this month was easily “The Getaway List” by Emma Lord. It’s probably my favourite book I’ve read from Emma Lord and just had so many things I love in a book!

I’d recommend Bittersweet Memories by Catharina Maura. I enjoyed any of the other books I’ve read by her but bittersweet memories was a 5⭐️ for me. Also for a super emotional romance Where there’s a will and if there’s a way (lost boys duet) by Jessie Walker. It’s MM childhood friends to strangers to lovers, an all time fave for me (but check triggers). On the same page is up next on my list!

White Lies by Linda Howard is a amnesic romance that does a pretty good job at the romance.

All of my January reads were 5 stars (!!!) and the ones that I would recommend to you were Worst Wingman Ever by Abby Jimenez (short story) and Change of Plans by Dylan Newton (single parent, self-loathing hero, disabled & mental health rep)

I read outside my comfort zone in January so my favorite was actually Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry

My favorite books of January were The Breakup Tour, The Raven and the Reindeer by T. Kingfisher, and Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir! I read a Sophie Kinsella book where the protagonist has memory loss years ago. I think it was called Remember Me? I really loved it at the time but don't know if I still would in 2024.

My five-star read from January was The Black Kids by Christina Hammonds Reed, totally worth your time

January was a surprisingly great reading month for me and I ended up having four five star reads. Bell in the Fog by Lev A C Rosen, Fire Season by K D Casey, Bookshops and Bonedust by Travis Baldree, and Season’s Change by Cait Nary. Two of them being sports romances was a wonderful treat since my December sports romance reads were kinda flops.

I loved “Forget Me Not” by Julie Soto. 5star for me.

Don't know how you feel about Kylie Scott, but my favorite memory loss book is Repeat.

I could not put down an older one from Lisa Jewell this month called The House We Grew Up In

I’ve had check & mate on my TBR since its come out and still haven’t picked it up

Bittersweet memories by Catharine Maura is a good book about memory loss

I can’t recall if you’ve talked about them before, but the boys of tommen series by Chloe Walsh is a 5 star series for me

My friend's favorite book is Big Little Lies, so i read it last year so we could have something to talk about. To my dismay, i HATED it. It was literally just a bunch of privileged white ladies yapping about their woes. This book felt like it was supposed to be "Good for her!" but fell so flat. There was almost no retribution for Jane or Celeste. I also absolutely hated how obsessed with her ex Madeline was. 2 stars (it's spring now, according to Phil, so i'm being generous).

I recently read The Blonde Identity too! It was so painful. The heroine was insufferable 😅 I almost gave up when she used cherry Kool-Aid to dye her blonde wig to go undercover … Just was not a book I could my suspend disbelief for 😂

I have a memory loss recommendation book, although it is sci-fi and not romance, The Rook by Daniel O'Malley, about a woman who works in the supernatural part of the British Government, trying to uncover a conspiracy, while dealing with her own memory loss, but her past self knew that she was about to loose her memory, so left her detailed instructions about her life & work.

I loved One Dark Window. Its really THAT good!

I read Big Little Lies years ago and loved it and I’ve read a ton since then obviously so I don’t know if I still would but wouldn’t categorize it as a domestic thriller and don’t think it’s trying to be? She writes like “chick lit” with a few thrilling aspects but that doesn’t mean they’re necessarily thrillers. Just got to the part of the video about the Husband’s Secret and yea I DNFed that for the fatphobia and then never picked up any of her books ever again 🙃

Omg can I please recommend Outside the Ropes by Ashley Claudy ahh it’s soo good and so underrated!! It’s a tough girl with dark past, boxing, danger and a slow burn romance with a big strong lover who just wants to PROTECT and ahh idk I love them I’ve just done a reread since 2016 and I still love!! (Check for TW before if need be) x

As someone who carries a gene that would with a 25%-50% chance (which does not depend on a partner having the same gene) leave my child extremely physically disabled and with a lot of pain ... i get what you mean that its not the same thing as infertility but it depends on what gene one is a carrier for...with what i carry i would never risk having a child (because i do not want them to be in pain) at least not the "normal" rout and even with ivf there is still a considerable risk...so i actually like that this kind "infertility" is talked about in a book because it is similar to an extent since family planing becomes very very difficult

I've just downloaded The Fake Out - I hope it's as good as you say! I've just finished all Elsie Silver's Chestnut Spring series. I managed to read them out of sync so started with book 2 and ended with book 4 and they were both 5 stars reads for me. One thing though (from book 4), I wish authors would stop setting sex scenes in public toilets. It's gross.

Skip Apples Never Fall by Laine Moriarty. It was such a slog and I should have DNF’d it.

Barely made it to 11% for fake out. The proposal for fake dating comes out of nowhere and wayyyy too fast. It felt soooooo FORCED. I needed more of a built up so the trope feels organic.

Hi.. i'm new to reading rom coms and romance. I have always read Psychological thrillers and true crime nonfiction books. But i have been wanting to branch out to new genres.. i read I'm Glad My Mom Died a memoir by Jeanette McCurdy (from Icarly and Sam and Cat) last weekend. It was so good. The next Memoir I just started is Smoke Gets In Your Eyes by Caitlin Doughty. Its a funny memoir of her work as a Mortician. I am currently halfway through Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score. I am really enjoying it. I am excited to try some of your recommendations.. I just ordered a bunch of rom com books from Thrift Books.. I plan to read Twisted Love by Ana Huang and Archer's Voice by Mia Sheridan next. They come highly recommended by another You Tuber..

I wonder if maybe The Breakup Tour's issue is actually that it's based on a real-life celebrity? So .. perhaps it's kind of banking on readers being already somewhat familiar with the characters in some ways or something, like fanfiction, so it didn't think it needed to do quite as much labor to build the emotional investments up?. But .. I dunno, I haven't read it; that's just a totally random theory my brain decided to ponder whether it could be maybe possible or not while listening to you talk. ^--^ Lol!😂😊

My first liane moriarty book I read of hers was apples never fall and what you described for big little lies is how I felt about apples never fall. It was not a thriller, I was bored for most of it, did not like any of the characters, plus the fact it centered around tennis, a sport I find so fricken boring just made it all the worse.
