Something I find funny is that a lot of people are on Alistor's side in the dad battle thing, but Alistor is literally JUST doing it to piss off Lucifer, he doesn't care about Charlie like that

When Lucifer sings "I tried this all before" I think it implies that he DID try to see the best in sinners and give them a chance, but they disappointed him one too many times and just doesn't want his daughter to experience the same disappointment

The thing with Lucifer's absence is that it's a very huge mutual and self-feeding miscommunication/misunderstanding. Lucifer never visits, so Charlie thinks he doesn't care. She says, he only calls if he's bored or needs something. As if she thinks he doesn't want to see her. On the other hand, Charlie never calls, so Lucifer thinks Charlie doesn't want him present. He said, "this is the first time SHE'S called YOU in years." Lucifer, in line with depression, thought that Charlie hates him. It shows in how he feels it necessary to invent excuses to call Charlie. Not only that but his excited sing-song exclamation of "myy daughter wants to see meeeee!" as if he thought she didn't.

Lucifer got Charlie exempt from the Angel's Extermination, as mentioned by Lute in the first episode He HAS been fighting for her dude :P

So probably a harder callback but Lucifer has tried to help Charlie. At the beginning of the episode when Charlie is upset that Lucifer let the exterminations happen in the first place is a common example of miscommunication and hearing only the perspective of Adam. What she forgets is that Adam was already Sanctioned to come down and begin the exterminations with or without Lucifer's consent and the only reason they are allowed to occur uncontested annually is that Lucifer agreed to not fight back so long as the Angels only terminated Sinners and left the helborn alone - in this way, he managered to protect Charlie from the Angels and from Heaven. also, you'll note that Lucifer makes 'an' effort to call and check in on Charlie every few months but has never received a call from Charlie herself in YEARS ; he is trying to connect while giving space and respecting Charlie's wishes. In the same space, we can also see that for whatever reason, Charlie (at least from the first episode) has no negative things to say about her mother who she hasn't heard from in at least 7 years. This dynamic leads me to believe Charlie to be a classic victim of a parent's divorce, most likely picking up her mother's views of her father unintentionally. This is not to say that Lucifer is going about his connection to Charlie in the correct way, but we can get a good glimpse of the messy family dynamic. it's clear from the portraits in Lucifer's home that he was present for all of Charlie's major life events. we can infer that Charlie looks up to her mother as a powerful leader and as a mother figure based on her lack of verbalized frustration at her disappearing act in contrast to all the complaining she does about her father. Overall I think Charlie up until this point has felt belittled by her father but has not felt unloved; just ignored so I don't think he's been a bad father - but his depression and lack of faith has made him negligent and dismissive which puts him at odds with Charlie who still held onto the memories of him that were more filled with hope and inspiration that lit the fire within her. We can also see he has a bit of an avoidant personality - when charlie askes on the Balcony what he thinks of the hotel, he knows exactly what she's asking after and chooses to pretend otherwise because he doesn't want to tell her that he thinks its a bad idea to try and 'redeem' sinners. He's constantly trying to not crush her dreams and trying to avoid crushing her is actually whats crushing her (classic parenting move ).

Niall you need to look at things from Lucifer's perspective😭 Remember that in the beginning of the series, they tell us that when lucifer was banished from Heaven, he was forced to only see the horrible bad stuff of humanity, and considering us humans, you can't really blame him for the way he see's the sinners💀

"What has he actually done to fight for her?" Lute @ Charlie in episode 1: "The only reason you're still here is because daddy (Lucifer) got you and your Hellborn kind a pardon from an Exorcist blade." (it's never straight-out stated beyond that, but it's fairly assumed that Lucifer made a deal with Heaven/Adam that he wouldn't interfere with the Exterminations as long as they didn't harm Charlie or any other Hellborn) Also, unrelated, but whenever people give Lucifer crap for not being around, I can't help but think about how Charlie literally says that he "calls sometimes, but only when he's bored or needs me to do something" (aka, he somewhat regularly tries to reach out, but very clearly has no idea how to do so properly, so he either comes across as being bored because he called without some kind of prepared reason or as needing her to do something if he did prepare some kind of reason) meanwhile Charlie hasn't reached out to him in years (which is fair considering her own issues, but still, people just kind of ignore the fact that they tell us that Lucifer still TRIED while Charlie did not and end up putting all the blame on Lucifer) (side-note: Alastor is not the dad that stepped up, he's the dad that stepped up purely to step on Lucifer's toes; his only reason to act like/call himself Charlie's father figure was to get under Lucifer's skin)

I Love your reaction but here are aome things id like to point out, because Lucifer is my Favorite character and i know he's not the best but i still want to defend him a bit: 1)Ok i get that you on Alastor's side but he literally said it himself that he's only there BECAUSE he thinks Charlie's idea is stupid, 2)to be fair Charlie hasn't called her dad in years, while he has, which means that she hant tried at all to keep in contact with her father 3) Lilith(Charlie's mom) left Lucifer causing his depression, and it's hard to even take care of himself let alone others when you're dealing with such issues (there's still some blame on him tho, he could have tried harder) 4) Lucifer was already broken inside because heaven casted him out, and he knows that angels never listen so he wanted to protect Charlie from suffering the same fate as him. 5) i know Lucifer isn't the best father obviously, but he was the one that inspired Charlie to follow her dreams 6) the line in the song "More than anything" that says: "i tried this all before" might mean that Lucifer also tried to redeem sinners in the past and heaven rejected his idea

Honestly, i know lucifer is an absent father and all, but everyone with daddy issues, let's be honest "more than anything," is a song that we SOB over 😅

Just to point it out, Lucifer HAS been trying to be there for Charlie! Charlie says that her dad calls her, but Lucifer also reveals that Charlie hasnt called HIM in years! Considering the divorce and Charlie presumably living with her mom, he prolly doesnt know if she WANTS him around. He wants to see her, but he isnt sure that he's welcome so he disguises his attempts at reconnection as "just being bored" or "wanting her to do something", just in case the feeling wasnt mutual. AND judging from Charlie's attitude when she called him or even when he arrived at the hotel, she seemed exasperated by him-- and she only reached out when she had no other option and needed something from him. That certainly doesnt help Lucifer's notion that she doesnt want him around as a dad, only what he could do for her. Theres certainly some miscommunication here, Charlie views his awkwardness as a lack of care, and he sees Charlie's frustrations as a sign that she doesnt want him in her life.

Can I just say, I get why you reacted to Lucifer how you did, but let me put it into perspective. This man has lived in a world of his creation for over 10,000 years. The last thing he did for Humanity, giving Eve the fruit of knowledge, not only did it create this world, creat hell, but also basically gave birth to every bad person and action to ever appear in human history. Every single day he wakes up and looks outside, it’s a reminder of HIS mistake, how HE is somewhat responsible for people like Val even effing existing. Now imagine having that reminder, constantly, for 10,000 years. That would destroy anyone.

Do remember, Lucifer from the dawn of mankind was punished to go to hell and NOT see the good in humanity. He only gets to see the negatives, the worst of the worst. His first thought when Charlie wanted to save sinners was keeping her away from heaven, to protect her and keep her safe from what they would likely do to her.

AAAA I have to point out Lucifer is depressed. He's been protective of Charlie by having hellborn exempt from exterminations only doing that because of her. He hasn't been apart of her life as they've been separate. He's been depressed and as he struggled to answer the phone, has a hard time connecting with her despite their massive similarities and outlooks. Charlie essentially being much like Lucifer before his fall. He only calls her with excuses but not telling her he just wants to talk with her. Charlie also didn't make any attempts to contact him only furthering his belief she wanted nothing to do with him so he stayed away. He has a bad outlook on life as he's been casted out and hell is his prison. He tried to do the same thing Charlie is attempting and failed and has given up. Only keeping to his 'king of hell' image but being locked up in a room making rubber ducks. This sad man is a king of a place he never wanted. It's his punishment and prison to see the bad of everything while Charlie, hell is her home and she sees all the potential Lucifer once saw and given up on.

You’ve gotta watch Helluva Boss next! It’s all on KZfaq made by the same people who made Hazbin Hotel. Just remember to watch the pilot before you start the actual show! A lot of people forget to see the pilot and I definitely think it’s worth watching first EDIT: Also Helluva boss and Hazbin Hotel and both based in the same universe

the implication is that the exterminations are entirely approved by lucifer so he can sacrifice the siners to heaven's army in exchange for the no hurting hellborne deal, presumably that deal is only in place too keep charlie safe, so he legitimately did do everything he could to protect her.

Okay, two things I want to point out: First, Niall is the first person I've ever seen, actually like Mimzy. Second, Niall would be easy prey for Alastor. While Lucifer has been absent for reasons unknown, he has, at least from afar, tried to support Charlie. Also remember his characterisation. He was a dreamer, punished by being forced to only ever see the worst of humanity. Only the cruel and the wicked. For thousands of years he has seen humans be awful to each other, selfish, cruel, abusive, uncaring, intentionally hurtful. It makes complete sense that he isn't all that willing to give human souls another shot. He's done at least a bit to support Charlie, or at least protect her. He gave her the hotel and Keekee, gave her Razzle and Dazzle, most likely he's the one paying the bills for the hotel, he got her the pardon from the exorcists. He doesn't make an effort to see Charlie, clearly, but, guess what? Neither does she. Alastor, on the other hand, is a violent psychopath who seeks to inflate his own ego and further his own agenda by using those around him. He deliberately pushes both Charlie and Lucifer's buttons during the Hell's Greatest Dad song, tries to drive a wedge between Lucifer and Charlie, and also, I'm not convinced he didn't shove Nifty down that toilet drain just so he could be the one to fix it. I love Alastor as a character, but I hate him.

A few reminders: 1. Lucifer was cast down to hell before he could see the good that came from the free will he gave humanity 2. People who watch this always say "I don't think Charlie would care" which they are half right on, she doesn't care that Vaggie is an angel shes mad that she didn't tell her, she lied by omission and that's why Charlie gets upset and that's valid.

Everyone contested Sera's statement that there was no proof that damned souls could be redeemed, but she does have a point, though. Charlie did showed that Angel did improved, but the fact that he is still in Hell despite everything is proof enough that she has no real evidence that the hotel can actual redeem souls and lead them to Heaven, that her project can actually work.

Even though I know Alastor doesn't care about Charlie at all and just wants to use her, I don't blame you at all for stanning lollll we love Al in this house! ALSO I know you mentioned it but I hope you consider watching Helluva Boss after this! It's less polished being fully an indie project but it's set in the same universe and FULL of great characters, voice talent, and yes even some banger songs! I really hope it happens I'll be so seated!! People will recommend you watch the pilot for it but personally I don't - it's not canon and I don't think it's very good representation of the tone the show decides to go with, nor do I think it adds anything. Just my opinion!

Oh my gosh you always give the best reactions! It's okay that you like Alastor. I love his whole thing, but he definitely has ulterior motives. Seriously though, when Sera's eyes have fire reflecting back, it adds so much symbolism and meaning to what she's doing. Like she's really doing something worthy of that fire. Lucifer gets rubbed in every single day 'how he did wrong' by giving humans free will....

lolol I get it but I personally have such a preference for Lucifer, the "I was hopeful until I was rejected by my peers and condemned for believing in people" thing of his and dealing with depression is pretty relatable, also as much as I adore Alastor I know he did all that to anger Lucifer, I still have my doubts about him genuinely caring about anyone but himself, (also a theory that Lilith might be the reason Lucifer and Charlie were drawn apart)

Actually, I believe "Hell's Greatest Dad" is supposed to be a "Friend like Me" reference with the visuals and song (in the beginning at least). Lucifer first starts trying to sell himself, saying why she should get his help, then is naming things off that he can make just like Genie does. Heck, Genie even goes "Life is your restaurant and I'm your Maître d" while having Aladdin at a table with a covered plate, while Lucifer does basically the same thing. There's just too many similarities for it not to be.

Something i noticed is the first part of the song between Lucifer and Alastor has the same Chord Profression as 'Other Friends' from Steven Universe and Lonand Behold the amazing Sarah Stiles, who sung the song plays Mimzy

I love this show's Lucifer dearly, but Alastor is still my favorite character 🤣 He's a mystery and I feel like there's so much there we don't know yet and I want to see it so bad

Lucifer wants to talk to Charlie but she hasn't called him in YEARS. SHE doesn't take initiative most likely until she invited him to her hotel which is why he panicked when she called. So his depression likely made him think she doesn't want to connect with him. Charlie wants to connect with her dad but while he DOES initiate calls, it's likely to only be about brief check ins, with obvious hesitation about her hotel, and chores (talks he kept short misunderstanding that she may not want to talk to him). So BOTH of them want to talk to each other, but BOTH of them doesn't think the other wants the same and while I've seen a lot of people miss this (understandable, we only did see most from Charlie's perspective and Lucifer's throwaway comment about it being so long since she called him just once), I also find it hilarious cause this really shows: Like father, Like daughter XD Sad, but I think they'd facepalm so hard if they figured it out this way.

I love lucifer but he is a flawed person and has definitely made mistakes in his relationship with charlie. I think this was a really good restarting point for them both and finally allowed for them to gain a better understanding of each other.

On the note of what Lucifer has done, i don't know much about it but they did say that Lucifer got all demons born in Hell, like Charlie, protection during the Extermination. That might also be contributing to his hesitance to rock the boat. If they piss Heaven off, that protection he got for his daughter might go out the window and she could actually die. I can appreciate how he might feel like that was a risk he couldn't take and that what she was doing was unnecessarily dangerous. Like he said during this episode, he doesn't want to see her stick her neck out for people like this. I don't think he ever meant by that that her reputation was the only thing on the line if she went to bat for sinners' redemption.

Fun fact! Hells Greatest Dad was inspired by and shares characteristics of "Friend Like Me" from Aladdin. So it does in fact sound like a song! I think thats why its my fav tbh.

In Lucifer's defense, he's been cursed to pretty much only ever see the very worst of humanity and gets blamed for their sins since he gave them free will. So his pessimism isn't surprising considering how he's been alive for the entirety of human existence. Plus he thinks he is fighting for his daughter by keeping the peace and allowing the exterminations to happen in exchange for them not touching the hell-borns like Charlie. If he fully supported Charlie from the start and saw her dreams get crushed, he'd blame himself for letting her hopes fall as far as his did. Though I'm not too sure why he's been an absent father and why he was under the impression that she didn't want to get to know him til now. My money is on whatever happened between him and Lilith that caused their split though. Hopefully they get into that in season 2!

More than anything, is my favourite song in the whole show, purely because I know how much pain my Dad went through, just to have the family we have now. As of recent, things have certainly not been too well, but he’s had my back through thick and thin, and that’s what I strive to do for him as well. Lucifer shutting Charlie out of his life for feeling like a failure… God it hurts So you can imagine, when the song came on, I absolutely broke. Hazbin hotel was just one of those shows that manages to hit you in the feels when you least expect it, and it HITS. Anyway, love your reaction, can’t wait for you to see the next two!

A theory I have that I’m STRONGGG about is that In the first episode we hear Charlie say her moms been MIA for 7 years and in the second episode in the song stayed gone with vox and Alastor we hear vox say he’s been gone for 7 years AS WELL, and no one knows why. And knowing alastors backstory of how he came to be the radio demon, hes this big bad demon who no one knows the true intentions he has, and I’ve been following up on the lore on him from vivziepop and everything, with the way he acts and how he’s portrayed in his backstory and currently why would he randomly want to help the princess of hell? And he’s a KNOWN demon for making deals, and every deal he’s been offered throughout this show he says no to? Which I think it’s weird knowing him yk? And I won’t give any spoilers but later in the next episode you’re going to watch you’ll see some things on how he’s acting in the finale and it will correlate with what I’m saying :D but besides all that, that’s just a little theory I had that idk maybe you’d like to hear! Although either way good or bad or inbetween tall dark and creepy I still love Alastor, literal icon

Don't forget that in the first episode it said Lucifer would never be able to see the good in humanity because of what he did! Heaven and Hell have put him through a lot. Him falling, Lilith leaving and taking Charlie, shutting himself in for so long, he legit stated he has depression… he's definitely not okay. This is so rough for me because I kin both Alastor and Lucifer, so hearing you say fuck Lucifer hurt. I feel like Lucifer is very autistic coded, between the rubber ducks, the making up scripts of how to talk to Charlie, being portrayed as very quirky and goofy… I'm autistic, and I can definitely see it in him, but that could also just be because I kin him.

Btw the whole reason Lucifer was sent to Hell was so he could see only the worst of what his gift of 'free will' did to humanity. Probably the reason why he thinks so low of sinners. It reminds him of his 'mistakes'

Viv always intended for Cherri Bomb to be an Aussie but when she was casting for the Pilot, the American voice actress had already recorded her lines using her natural accent and it was too late to go back and change it.

Not sure if anyone else brought it up but, yes "Hell's Greatest Dad" sounds like two songs, Friend Like Me and Other Friend's. Lucifer even says the line a little bit before, "Introduce me to you're Other Friends..."

If you look at the angel silhouettes in Lucifer's song to Charlie, you can see each one has unique halos. Sera and Emily have similar halos to each other; I wonder if it's because they are sisters or something.

Lucifer kind of gave up on sinners for giving humanity the power of free will and they used it for evil. Lucifer doesn’t want Charlie to get hurt just like he was when he was casted away from heaven for giving them such free will.

I will forever ask everyone who enjoys Hazbin to check out Helluva Boss! It takes place in the same universe, but focuses on different aspects of hell. While Hazbin only focuses on Sinner, Helluva focuses on the hellborn. I actually personally prefer Helluva so I'd love to see you check it out once you finish these last two episodes!

A couple things to remember about Lucifer he says in the beginning of the episode he’s depressed, the animation during more than anything shows the angels spears pointing at Charlie and we know that Charlie is protected from the extermination also we know from the opening intro Lucifer lost his will to dream after being exiled I’m not saying he’s been a great dad but when you’re in a major depressive state you think everyone is better without you around so you don’t reach out you just fade away

Also, by the way episode 6 might be the most lacking in logic from all episodes. There is absolutely no reason for Sera to allow for that meeting to happen, and that Charlie or Vaggie does not mention extermination at all during the whole time until Adam does is sheer, absolute, shameless plot convenience. Within the plot: extreme luck. Was that what Sera was counting on? Luck? That is why she thought it is a good idea to let the Princess of Hell who wants to stop exterminations come up and speak freely in front of a court full of people who do not know about the exterminations? So stupid!
