I literally told my hair styling life was life-ing when I finally broke down and went to the salon to get a shampoo, blow dry and trim after my hair had been in a puff 4 weeks. I would take it down for a bit to oil it which made the build-up that much worse 🫣

I feel you. As a libra myself and an introvert, I prefer being at home on a day off and just read. This year was not what I expected. If I do nothing. I do my hair, it makes me feel better when it's cute. As it relates to your question, I remind myself that murder is still illegal and find time to exercise, eat better and just read my books and it'll help with me remaining sane

One thing I have noticed is that I am not where I want to be, but I do know that I can tell God has been taking me somewhere...that my past moves thread together. I wish you had posted this video last week. I finally detangled my hair Thursday after weeks of not touching it!! Also complained about my thick hair...until it started thinning!! I freaked out!!! Now I am thankful that it is filling back in. Hang in there sis.❤

I also had another experience where I neglected doing my hair because I was in midterms, working out, and working 2 jobs so I get it.. I am ready to put my hair in braids. I feel you. I have been applying to jobs, working two jobs, trying to workout almost daily, and in school.

I used to feel that way coming from a toxic environment, but as I broke free from people who no longer serve a good purpose in my life; the question dawned on me of “who should I be? Where should I be? How long will it take me?” Those were abusive questions to even ask myself, because the real question is “should I start living for me? Or should I live for other people?” That’s when I realized no one is supposed to dictate your life but yourself. If you are only in for the ride then wear a seatbelt! 😂 and if you are living for other people’s expectations it’s time to have a self evaluation meeting with you and God over tea and wearing fuzzy slippers. This is what’ve I done and I can honestly say I really don’t care about when and how I will reach places because I know I’ll get everything I worked hard for eventually. And news flash You don’t need to have a family to have a “complete life” complete life means contentment if you are content in where you are then your destiny has been reached. I Live in peace and regret nothing.

Sis, I have done it to my hair. Not intentionally but multiple times. I too use AFRICAN PRIDE PREPAID and it is 🤩GREAT STUFF!! 😂 I try to be so careful with my hair because it's so easy to lock up even if I don't go for your time without doing anything to it. I've come to the conclusion it must be because it's not moisturized enough. Obviously. Though I am not an introvert.
@teebree06

Have you ever tried dry detangling with oil?? I used to use African Pride prepoo religiously as well BUT because of that I was going through it so fast. My pockets couldn’t keep up. Even though it’s not expensive, the cost does start to add up real quick because one jar would only last me 3 washes. I decided to try oil detangling and it works so well for me! I get more use out of the oil than I do the African prepoo and also feel like it gets out tangles better. So how I use it? I take a section and put the oil on the hair dry. No wetting. Then, I start to finger detangle and the tingles come apart with ease! Girl it’s like butter! Literally lol

I think a long time ago when I first went natural I used oil to prepoo .. I even considered adding oil to this session if my hair was too tangled but luckily I was able to work through it. This is helpful though!

Looks like a good prepoo. I like the Aunt Jackie Knot on my Watch detangler as a prepoo. I do it similar to what you're doing, just apply directly to dry hair then detangle, only I let it sit for about 30 mins with just smoothing and finger detangling before going in with the wide tooth comb. It's amazing how they just melt the knots. I'm not a fan of the smell, but then I wash it out. Will give this one you're using a try sometime in case it works as well for me and with a milder smell. I can never do wash n gos unless I want to spend an hour detangling. Normally my detangle is more like 15 mins. applying and separating with fingers. But after a WnG, good grief. My hair badly wants to be one great big dreadlock. I took a lot of time off over the last month and managed to get caught up on everything, including lots of sleep. I even henna'd my hair for the first time and did medical microneedling for the first time. Also signed up for a new training program that should get me an additional license by January. Finally starting to feel like myself again. Sleep is a wonder drug.

My favorite detanglers are by Pattern Beauty and Melanin Haircare. That multi-use leave-in works wonders, but it seems to irritate my scalp so I don't use it anymore. I just started using the one by Pattern, and I noticed how much hair I'm saving compared to how my hair was when I was using another product. I feel the same way about my hair. Sometimes I'm like how do I even still have hair and the level of thickness sometimes is too much chile lol

wahoo child...i do not envy you......i cannot skip detangling...even if i have no African pride.....The olive oil would have to come out of the cupboard. Lol! I also always have a detangling leave in. because my hair tangles just for fun and it's ultra-fine. Pro-Tip....before you even start separating with fingers....put the pre-poo on the ends and wrap that in a shower cap for 30 minutes.... Ripping sounds on ends trigger me. lol! Girl none of us have this ish figured out. I thought I was going in a good direction, got therapy and then found out at 40 that I have autistic traits. Yup I'm currently self-reparenting at age 42. But I like saying no a lot now! Compared to my 20s and early 30s...even to family members!! I'm an almost-Libra/late Virgo....all that alone time I like makes me think ah...I find other people too overstimulating for my autistic traits....ugh....So I just work on balance. I disconnect 3.5 days a week and I re-engage 3.5 days a week. it's not ideal for most people but that's all I can handle and I do not feel guilty about putting my mental and physical health first because once it's gone no-one else can get it back for me. This year was challenging but also enlightening and freeing and fun! literally the most fun I've had in a really long time!!

Thank your for sharing your journey with us, both hair and life in general. I've been a school teacher for 3 years now. I am a single mom of one very hyper-active boy on the autism spectrum. Sometimes, life feels like too much. And even when school is out on "break," I never truly feel like I'm on a break as a mom. 🫣 Side note... I wish I had gotten into being an SLP. I now think I might have like that more than being a teacher. But I digress, black hair is truly something else Lol
