As a therapist, I urge my clients to avoid comparison to others. We only see a portion of anyone else's life. We don't know what is going on in other's lives and to wish to have what other people have focuses our attention on what we don't have and takes it away from what we do have. I love watching luxury KZfaq, but I recognize my privilege in doing so. For some of my clients, luxury would be eating at a McDonald's. It is always about your own personal perspective. I own one luxury brand bag and I didn't acquire until the age of 53. I do not watch any of these luxury videos, however, and feel bad about not having a collection because I recognize that I'm lucky to have one. I was lucky when I didn't have any. Gratitude is a great coping skill and I encourage everyone who sometimes struggles with feeling bad about yourself to practice naming three things a day that they are grateful for--it helps to ground us in what we have instead of what we don't have.

Hi Dayle! This was an excellent topic. I could honestly listen to you all day long. Here’s my two cents. Generally speaking, I think that envy and jealousy associated with social media is caused by comparing our actual lives to the “constructed” lives of some of the content creators we follow on-line. In other words, it’s easy to lose sight of the amazing things in our own lives when we are bombarded with such glitzy glamorous photos and/or videos of those we have unwittingly placed on pedestals. That’s one of the reasons I have thinned out considerably the list of people I subscribe to and watch. My time is valuable and I am making a conscious effort to connect with only those who inspire me and bring me joy when I watch their content. Your vlog is a gentle reminder that we are humans and as such, we may have to look within at times to reevaluate where we are in our lives. Taking a “break” from social media from time to time is probably something everyone would benefit from, including content creators. A quote I’ve always remembered and loved was written by Eleanor Roosevelt. She once said this, “comparison is the thief of joy”. Never a truer statement was written. I adore you Dayle. You are good for the soul and bring much joy to my life as I’m sure you do to this entire community. I would follow you to the moon. ♥️

Hi Dayle, I almost missed this video, and I'm so glad I didn't. Last year, I went through an extremely anxious period with insomnia, anxiety medication, and regular therapy. I used to be lively and cheerful, but I felt like a completely different person. It was one of the hardest times of my life. I often compared my life with my friends'. Their successes made me happy, but soon I'd fall into deep anxiety, feeling inadequate. This unhealthy mindset led me to distance myself from them. My husband helped me refocus inward and stop comparing myself to others. He said, "Life is lived for yourself. Comfort and happiness are what matter most. Don't worry about others' opinions or compare yourself to them." This advice changed my perspective. Now, I maintain good relationships with my friends but no longer obsess over their lives. I focus on my own small joys and challenges. I've resumed exercising, rediscovered my hobbies, and started a small business making handcrafted bags. My days are now busy and fulfilling. Thank you for sharing this meaningful topic. In today's information age, it's crucial to slow down and reconnect with our inner selves, accepting our imperfections and finding peace within. There's a saying I love: "Life has three stages of growth: when you realize you are not the center of the world, when you try your best but still feel powerless, and when you accept your ordinariness." Sometimes, making peace with ourselves and enjoying the ordinary is a form of success.

Well Dayle! I thought content creators were thinning their collections for 2 reasons....one ...to declutter so more handbags could come in and the money from selling was used for this...and 2 ...some things were had for years and years and they were sick of them and they used the money to buy contemporary items!!!!! Ha HA ...not for altruistic reasons! As for you...I love you. You are intelligent and I admire you. I love your content and the variety of it. You can tell I do for I comment all the time and you always answer me. Thanks for this video, Dayle. This is why I love your channel. I’m a single person who loves luxury, is outspokenly feminist, and doesn’t want kids. Sometimes this makes me feel insecure when I’m around so many couples and especially friends who have kids and the kids become their whole focus. It’s a hard adjustment as a single person. I sometimes feel like I’ve stood still when others have been moving forward. I sometimes wonder what’s wrong with me that I haven’t been able to follow a similar path. But if I truly analyze my situation there are a few key factors that in my opinion have made that “traditional” path harder for me to obtain. Some of the factors being that I’m an introvert in a world made for extroverts. I’ve always made more money than the guys I’ve dated which has unfortunately been a cause of strife. My ideals and values of what it means to be me are starkly different than what “society” says is normal and sometimes this causes me to feel like an outsider. Anyways, I appreciate you Dayle and this video. Thanks for sharing and allowing us to share, too. ❤

What triggers us are things we'd like to have but can't, like to do but didn't, like to achieve but failed. For some it's the grass appearing greener on the other side (it rarely is, everybody's paying for what they have, one way or the other - no one has it all) for others it's the realization that they failed in some parts of their lives or that they probably won't have enough life / time, options, possibilities left in this life to have what they see others have. The only way not to get bitter, sad, depressed about seeing others experience what one hasn't... is booze. Kidding. So what's the only way? To understand that everybody has their life, their story, their chapters. And some might be good and some might suck but in the end, we are all different. And so are our paths. Technically, one could get offended about absolutely anything. Because in everybody's life there's always something missing. Those things are just different from person to person. A rational approach can help soften the harsh self-harming, self-sabotaging effects of primal instincts like jealousy, fear, bitterness and greed. But it sure takes a lot of work on oneself to get to that level. And there will always be triggers. For EVERYONE. Because no one has it all.

What a thoughtful video. Such good points, and appreciate the acknowledgement of insecurities. It's unreasonable, I think, to expect emotions to only go one way. If someone watches a video and basically replies with something to the effect of "this validated my decisions" or "this made me feel good", no one says, "that's strange, why should a video about them make you feel good? it's their life, not yours." It's normal for people to feel both good and bad depending on what someone says, even if indirectly, choices they are making. Hopefully we can, as you say, reflect and truly ask "are these behaviors still serving me?" One point, though, is how remarks are framed. It is one thing to say, "I now have different foci in my life"", or "I've decided to go on a path that is going to be better for me going forward", and another thing to say "I used to live the life you are living, and then I woke up and did better." It's easier to not take the former personally.

I really felt a lot of jealously from her because of things she wanted that I had, a long term bf, a smaller nose and just being thinner than her. We shared a lot of insecurities and struggles but it felt like she ignored that towards the end of our friendship. We’re all just people trying to do our best.

Excellent video, Dayle. You are beautiful inside and out. Those videos on our feeds can be so annoying sometimes. Don’t let them get to you (and I’m telling myself that as I’m saying it because, truthfully, they get to me). Other people can go and be awakened, have a new perspective in life, etc. That’s on them. We’re all at different stages of our lives with different backgrounds, state of health, financial ability, responsibilities, etc. For me, I just want people to let me be, to spend my own money however I want, to enjoy the things I couldn’t before, in the remaining time of what’s left of my life. I mean, life is short, really. I was just doing the Math recently: I’m turning 60 in a few months, both of my parents died in their 70s, so… yup 😁 Love you, Dayle! ☺️😘

Birkin- you've been so upfront on this topic but i'm not surprised you got those comments, i think it does reflect the frustration people have in their own attempts to get a birkin. Another reason i bought one through a re seller, i could feel the obsessive in me obsessing, and i didn't want to go down that route. Weightloss- i am going to try and be careful here how i word this, as i've been losing weight over a long while, something i battled with myself for a long time and continue to battle with. This is because i was personally unhappy with me, but i am not watching these videos. I've struggled with this issue myself for so long, and i will plateau, put weight back on etc, struggle to maintain, and i don't want to mix up in my mind with what anyone else is doing or saying, i struggle enough at times with what i can say to myself, that i know i would take anything in those videos onbaord- and nothing at all about the person making them- all about my own insecurities.

However after doing a lot of soul searching over the last couple of years I’m in a place where I might feel triggered but I recognise it and can navigate it better. The same with working mums vs non working mums. I felt very judged over the years for working too much but when I reflect back a lot of my feelings were probably hitting a nerve because I felt guilt. Dayle, most of us have different situations & priorities in life. Watching YT lux channels or whatever is of interest to me. Do any of them make me feel “less than”, no. Not a single bag/piece of clothing, shoes, car, house, make an iota of difference to me. I appreciate what content creators choose to share on their channels, I can see how wonderful said “item” is & pleased for the person they are happy & watch how the item is styled. As long as I have a roof over my head, food in the fridge/pantry, my bills (life admin LOL) is sorted, cars are good what is there to worry abt? Health issues are a major concern in my life. If I could sell everything & live with my hubby & furkid in a caravan to fix them I would. Therefore “suck it up Princess” is used in my daily life, you can take the soldier out of the army but not the army out of the soldier. Comparing is hard not to do but it all has to be taken with a grain of salt. One never knows what another really has on their mind or what their worries are. I'm single and on an average Australian income and came to realise if I were to constantly compare myself to friends in couples who are both high income earners, I would go crazy, I had to sit back an say, I have a home, I am safe, I am still able to go out and do things I like to do and within my budget and on my terms such as solo travel, there is no use trying to be like the others and I'm ok with that.

Hi Dayle! Love the thoughts shared in your video today. Wisdom and discernment are two very important character traits, which can only grow over time as we each experience our own individual life journeys. Taking the time for self reflection is also important, as we learn to appreciate and love our own individual uniquenesses and respect the differences in others. I appreciate your honesty and transparency . . . lots of food for thought. Thank you!🩷

Totally agree with what you’ve said Dayle. I too had no children so my rescue dog was my daughter and I took her everywhere I went. People just said I was her mom and I agreed wholeheartedly. She just passed away and I miss her terribly. So lately I’ve been seeing things on my feed that don’t really move me to want to watch them. I’m not trying to lose weight although I could, I’d rather not discuss my finances as I feel it’s nobody’s business. And a few others. I just try to scroll passed through these things. And look for what holds my interest. Thanks for sharing. Take care….

This was a great video. I think it's nature to compare ourselves to someone else. I had a friend who years ago gave another friend her Facebook login and told her to change the password, so my friend couldn't log into her Facebook. She was going through a really rough time and had a hard time seeing everyone be so happy when she was not. I told her everyone is only sharing the best parts of their lives. No one really posts their struggles on social media. It's the same on KZfaq. It's hard not to be jealous of others when you see them having things you want, but we are all fighting our own battles and I always have that at the top of my mind. It helps me avoid giving rude people a telling off. We don't know what battles one is fighting, and we are all fighting battles in our lives.

i work in an industry which is highly competitive and there is a lot of pressure for women in management to have it all - the Barbie speech sums it all accurately - you have to be perfect, your team and your team's delivery have to be perfect and your family should be IG level perfect too. but there is a reasonable response to this pressure which is what you articulated Dayle - that our priorities are different, and social media is such that we get only a glimpse into a narrow sliver of someone else's seemingly perfect high achieving life but it's easy to forget that for the most part, if you have a solid roof over your head, enough food on the table, someone to share your life with, and a freezer with a pint (or more) of ice cream in it - it is a good life.

You are Enough!!!! I hate that others feel entitled to make remarks that are judgmental or opinionated…. I am older than you, and have no children. My husband traveled extensively in our younger years and we made the decision not to have children because I would feel as though I was raising them by myself. Instead, we have had fur babies that have filled our hearts and home with loads of love and joy. As for infuencers, I don’t really feel like I follow them….i found individuals on KZfaq, yourself included, that struck a cord with me…personality, style, humor, interests, etc. I understand that some started with love of a product or idea and simply wanted to share, while others got into filming videos strictly for the income… I find I follow my heart, and it has lead me to quality individuals who resonate or click with my interests and values…maybe not all, but that’s ok too! Such is life. Prior to social media it was our neighbours, friends and work colleagues we tried to keep up with and ways to compare have always been there. It pays to remember that many people will have much more than us but many others will have much less and nobody has everything. We all have to let go of something in order to achieve something else. If we can be grateful for what we do have within our own family, half the battle is won.

I just wish if you have chosen to watch someone then your happy for that person if you don't like what you see you can turn off and you can choose not to comment. when it comes to what people's personal experiences and choices are it is all different and that's the beauty of our world. We are all different in our own way and people shouldn't dislike or send online negative comments over someone else's journey. If there is something I don't resonate with when watching a particular person I either skip forward or move to the next video but I would never leave hateful or unhelpful comment regarding that topic.

It’s always been said that if you can get a job in something you’re passionate about then it’s not work at all. I think that’s true up to a certain point. Many people who start KZfaq channels do it as a creative outlet and to engage with people with likeminded passions. In our world it’s luxury. It’s enjoyable to make videos of our new bags, things we love and want to share with others. As with many KZfaqrs I have very few people in my life that have the same passion of luxury handbags and I have made many people, friends through this wonderful network. I think when you start to make money and are able to make a living from it then it becomes a job in the real sense. When you are forced to sit down and make videos on a consistent basis it can take away from the joy you once had for it. That being said, there are far worse ways of making a full time income.

I watch different KZfaqrs and yes sometimes I am envious of their collections or their lifestyle or how they look, but I find I must remind myself why am I watching in the first place? If I am not happy within myself then I should take care of that not because of envy but because I truly want to improve myself. Mostly I find my channels filled with entertainment. I enjoy watching unboxings or what the latest fashions are, but as soon as it is not entertaining any longer I switch off.

I enjoy watching luury channels, I own a louis vuitton card case that is it. i think we all can grow and change what we like and enjoy it's fine . But, what triggers me is the luxury you tubers who love walmart and the lab grown diamonds. Im sorry but your wearing 20,000 in Tiffany and telling me you love lab created diamonds. I'm not buying that at all.

Yes, what you said!!! I read all of the comments under this video because I couldn't relate to anything triggering me until I got to the very last comment, your comment, which reminded me of something that triggered me. Thank you for your comment. I was starting to feel left out thinking I didn't have anything that triggered me.

I think the luxury utubers pulling out have made enough money from the videos and still get views on those videos so still get paid from them are just making excuses about luxury not all but most bigger Chanel’s

All I can contribute to this is -if those KZfaqrs who say negative things hopefully don’t speak like that to their children if they have children, they certainly have big chips on their shoulders and I suggest they should just not watch - simples 😂

I think people get extremely upset when people say one thing constantly and then completely change their mind when the opportunity presents itself (regarding your B30)
