No one knew they were white. When the record was released there wasnt any promo on purpose. Def Jam wanted the songs to take off so people would accept them first. I was lucky enough to be a radio dj back then and broke that song in my area. Pete heard about it and invited us to their record release party in NYC. It was insane.

Crowd was dead. I’m a huge 3rd Bass fan by the way. I think the crowd didn’t know they were white and were shocked when they came on stage and saw they were white and started rhyming; they didn’t know how to react. Sad but was an energetic performance.

Yes, yes! This was pre Eminem and Vanilla Ice and post the Beastie Boys. I was impressed to see MC Serch keep up with his dancers and rap.

@@culturallyurban Yeah, I remember seeing this back in the day and thought they were pretty dope... The Apollo is tough place to cut your teeth in the industry but they held their own...

This was the first non black rap group to perform at the Apollo. I know The Beastie Boys appeared at the Apollo as guest host with Jam Master Jay in '84. They were promoting their first album, but 3rd Bass were straight up trailblazers.👏👏🎶

Serch said he was a proficient battle rapper before he made it big. It’s a shame that these two are at each other’s throat nowadays.

3rd bass are legends but that period in the 80s where rappers were hopping around dancing will always look a little goofy to me, with Serch especially lol.

Lip syncing… no way Serch is jumping around like that and still singing without gasping for air

Give the cat some credit. If you practice dancing and singing it is possible. 🎤🎶🕺🎤...😉

These cat's and the Beastie Boys were the first white rapper to perform at the Apollo. Everyone is dumbfounded when they watch historical performances.
