I would love to be able to update it :) But to buy an SSD just for that, is ridiculous... Why they didn't put a usb-c on it, I will never understand... Curious if there might be usb to ssd adapters, so I can maybe use a usb stick to update it. Will search for that, maybe it exists.

that's true! you could totally do that. i guess i just expect to be able to always record on the ninja v if I'm using it.

yeah totally! i imagine a bunch of the overseas manufactures will knock this off and have screengrabs before you know it.

Why does Atomos add onion skin to ninja v but non of its other recorders/monitors?

they are really doing all of their recent updates and new add ons with the Ninja V and other new monitors, sadly they probably will stop supporting older models eventually.

What’s the difference. 1080 or 4K. It’s a reference image. That was dumb to say

it's not always a reference image though. sometimes clients ask for screen grabs from shoots to use on their website, social media and other marketing purposes. so having 4k still would be beneficial.

Its a 1080 screen that's why it screen grabs only in 1080 and not 4K

Yeah, that’s pretty much what I’ve been assuming, that it can only capture the screen shot from the 1080p display, not the actual internal 4k file

I don't have an SSD... I record on my computer (output hdmi from the monitor to the computer)... Why didn't they put a usb-c port on it, I'll never understand... nowadays, to need an ssd to update a product's firmware, it's ridiculous ...so unfortunate

Hey mate I am playing with this ninja v on my Sony fx3 for some reason it’s telling me the input is 50fps when im out putting 25fps as im in Australia have you heard of this ( locked on to 50 no matter what I change on the camera ? Any solutions?

hey! yeah, the happens to me from time to time. typically it's just around your camera output settings. What i do is usually change the output resolution to Auto or I select it manually at 1080p or 4k. Or I change the output frame rate from Auto to manually selecting 25fps. If it's already set to 25 fps, I'll set it to auto. Typically this will reset the Ninja to get the correct 25fps input from the camera. you can also try restarting both devices after doing this. Hope that helps.

Hey thanks for the information. Question. Does it matter what year ninja v someone has? I seen one for sale and it had a 1920x1200 resolution… but others have 1920x1080. And new to this and I want to purchase one but not sure about certain specs. Will a firmware update change the resolution from old to new? Or should I just buy a newer model?

hello sorry for the question I never understood the atom updates if they are specific for each camera if the update is the latest 10.84.1 it says for sony a7r v prores raw recording support it is also for canon cameras are they compatible if it works fine because it is the last update that confuses me

there are some monitors coming out with this feature now too, but I can't think of one off the top of my head. I'd check Feelworld

What SDI module are you using for your Ninja V?

I’m not currently using one. Only HDMI, but Atomos makes a simple SDI module that slides into the battery/expansion slot

Dam..I bough NV and updated straight to last firm. But didnt show this feature ( onion)

The normal firmware update doesn’t give you the onion skin feature. Like a show in the video, you have to download the creative update on their website and use the token on your ninja v to today. Idk why they didn’t just include it as part of the normal update!

My firmware is 10.54. Can I jump to 10.74 installation?

yes, that shouldn't be a problem. the latest firmware usually allows you to jump multiple old updates!

Hi Chad, bro, maybe can you help me? I can't open my atomos ninja v ssd in my MacBook bro m1, when I was using windows PC the things was good! Now, I recored into Atomos SSD with my Fuji or Gh5 normally, but, my MacBook only detected the ssd if I erase or format it, if anyone here know how to fix it HELP ME, thanks guys!
