Imagine where America could be if we valued and taught and actually PRACTICED listening more than running our mouths. Imagine if we did the same for having difficult conversations. Imagine every politician, corp exec and business owner practicing these things. If you've never read or listened to anything by Brene Brown she is an excellent source for learning these things and SO much more. She adores Simon and they learn from each other as well.

I work on a large cruise line assessing the leadership effectiveness or the particular ships I go to (one at a time) and I am super passionate about this subject because we have SUCH a diverse team (nationalities and generations) and love watching your content! Currently working on individual’s development plan to exactly approach this skill gap we have. We prepare people to do their job well and we promote them when they do a good job. What we don’t think is when they go to a leadership role, it’s less about their “job” and more about their “team”, their “influence”. Thanks, @simonsinek 👏🏼

I'm not uncomfortable having difficult conversations. I believe it resolves a lot of conflict and you get to know the person at the other end better.

I agree with the fact that "I despise. I detest" the term Soft Skills. Nothing is soft ;) We should call it as Hard Skills or Human Skills or People Skills.

Leadership is rarely taught. Too many leaders don't connect with their team. That's all it really is, putting your team above yourself.

Never more truer words. My current unit they last leadership skills. They don’t know how to mentor nor lead by example.

You don't teach leadership, you acquire it the moment you become responsible! Life with its difficulties will make a person responsible with time, this is how you learn to become a leader, if you are responsible for your family, you are going to be the leader of that family, same goes for school (caring for your classmates can have a great effect on your responsibility and personality)

Parallel to this we are becoming increasingly sensitive to critical thinking. Information abundance have led us to believe that surface level thinking is truth. We fear difficult conversations because they ask of us to question even our deepest beliefs.

I think a lot of the time it's about the personality, not the skills. You can't teach someone things they don't value or they might do them just to progress but without authenticity

Parents need to step up as we are the first educators... and schools/ colleges need to stop building emotionally soft young adults with no skill for critical thinking or the benefit of debate and they need to start being held accountable for their actions and behavior.

What’s sad is if your ethos and approach aligns with Simon but above you, the leaders are umm “autocratic” you can guarantee your prosocial, inclusive, connection will be undermined further up in a narrative that portrays the antitheses and Ngl, masterpiece manipulation which didn’t help the growth of those manipulated, the individuals we serve and the bottom line on a whole. Instead a ton of trauma & fiscal losses. It’s particularly fascinating when exists in universities, where one would think that it’s such places where there are leader, ship, networking meeting so on, and so forth that toxic leader ship would be quickly extinguished. But it doesn’t, and if there’s any potential diversion to it, it’s extinguished via constructive dismissal’s
