Every year San Jose City College puts on an event to celebrate addictions counselors throughout the Bay Area.
The goal of the event is to honor and recognize men and women in the addiction treatment space who are doing stellar work in our communities.
One thing was clear to us, we are in dire need of addictions counselors. As more and more people develop addictions to drugs and alcohol, our local facilities struggle to keep up with the demand.
A message from the host of the event, Mary Crocker Cook:
The underside of the enormous influx of wealth and opportunity in Santa Clara County is the toll it takes on those who live and work here. We need educated and professional addiction counselors to help restore those who have become lost in self medicating the intensity of the Bay Area. Whether it is growing dependence on pain killers that were once necessary for physical pain and now are being used to treat emotional pain, or using stimulants to fight the fatigue that comes from drinking every night to wind down from a long day, we need to support the treatment professionals who step in to do a difficult and necessary job.
When the 23 million Americans in recovery stay sober, their families and communities benefit. The ripple effect of healing substance abuse is heartening and rewarding, and makes the financial support of those who provide the recovery services the best investment you can make!
