Most 80s cars have that problem. I had it in a 1984 Pontiac Sunbird. Only solution is to replace the sensor, but seeing as how the gauge isn't necessary for driving most people just learn to ignore it.

Decades of use/abuse, exposure to various elements, lack/quality of maintenance, and a million other variables affect a classic cars power and economy numbers (when comparing to factory). I've seen holy-grail performance cars dyni at 100hp, pre-resto. It's really fascinating.

On a road trip to New Jersey from West Virginia to in my 5-speed Spec-1 DeLorean I got 30mpg and I still run the Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection system. The Spec-1 package includes stainless headers, no catalytic converters into a dual in/out muffler and polished tips. I also added a cold air intake and fuctional side scoops, a larger air box with a K&N filter and a throttle body spacer. The PRV Is breathes and exhales perfectly now that the stock emissions crap is removed. I also run Royal Purple HPS 20W-50 Full synthetic motor oil and run 87 octane. Also on I-70 in Maryland I been to 122mph and still going nicely. Coming home from Jersey on that trip I rolled easily at 110mph. What I have noticed is everybody posting stuff about these cars on the internet is totally not true. If you want to know what it really is like talk to an actual owner who drives one. Not these car stories of road tests ( not this guys posts btw ) I daily a 82 DeLorean. Fantasic car

The octane level is always strictly instructed on every car from the gas filler neck, fuel pump, and/or the car sticker or owners manuel, especially on classic legends, always use what the owners manual says when its all original stock to prevent long term, head ache inducing problems in the fuel system

If your car doesn't have a high compression engine, you don't need anything higher than 87.

Actually it would probably be beneficial to run 91AON or even 93AON in your Delorean since it's an older car, carbon build up can change the compression ratio.
