Probably my darkest vlog ever - no, not emotionally dark, just DARK DARK!! I promise to continue shooting footage in the sunshine, I just had to capture the Mai-Kai! So turn up the brightness on those screens for this one, because it's gunna get dark and stormy!!
The Mai-Kai Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, FL is a true gem of tiki culture, recognized worldwide for its rich theming and preservation of Polynesian dance and high service standards. The Mai-Kai has been in operation since 1956 and was inspired by Don the Beachcomber in Chicago, IL. The Mai-Kai is on the National Register of Historic Places and is an amazing place to spend an evening!! Join me for a true tiki adventure, as we sample the brand new drink on the menu, take in dinner and a show, and stroll the glorious tropical gardens!

TWO THINGS: 1. I know this vlog is dark, lesson learned about filming in dark places! 2. I tried to go over and interview the drunk man hollering at me at around 0:44, but when I asked him what he thought about tiki culture, he didn't know what I was talking about....! FOR SHAME!!! If you're going to holler at me while I'm shooting a vlog, you better be prepared to be interviewed lol!! Maybe one day I'll post that piece as an outtake! Thanks as always, my friends!

What an awesome place! Like Whoa! I would love to visit myself one day. The Delmonico looks so good and the show looked like a blast. I’ve always wanted a hot cup of 🔥! lol so gnarly. The Gardens are beautiful, love waterfalls. “Either way you come out ahead” lol The lighting is good I can see everything. :) I wish Tampa had a place like this. You shared this with us so well. That place looks so amazing!!!and the fire-spitting very cool!!! That drink that was set on fire wow that looks scrumdiliumcious and there was a whole gagged of a Hawaiian t-shirts and stuff. Thanks for sharing your adventure

When we lived in So Fla my dad took us to the Mai Kai several times and loved it. My dad even used to get the Mai Kai calendar . Fun vlog, just checking out your older stuff

That's so cool, you must have great memories of it! I wish I had a better camera back then so I could have this video in better quality, bc the Mai Kai has changed so much since then!! But at least I have it documented how it was. A treasure, for sure!

The Mai Kai is what started my interest in the polynesian/hawait scene. I was young when we went there so I never had the pleasure of enjoyong adult cocktails, but it definitely was an awesome place

The Suffering Bastard is one of my favorite legacy Mai Kai cocktails! Got to try it during their Flashback event last year where they resurrected three retired drinks and retired appetizers. So happy to see Suffering Bastard return to the menu!

Love this place and I see you covered the Wreck Bar just up the road too. I picked up your channel thru ATW and love it. I live close to Mai Kai, very lucky best tiki drinks ever, we do happy hour there weekly. The Molokai Bar is actually the stage set used in the movie Mutiny on the Bounty starring Marlon Brando it was reconstructed here at the Mai Kai by the original set designer. You must attend a Hukilau festival if you haven't yet they just had it last week. Keep up the great adventures.

We used to have a Trader Vics's in Vancouver but it's been gone for years and our last Tiki Bar and Lounge is gone as of last year when the Waldorf Inn Hotel closed. 😕

There are definitely real birds, but I think there is also piped in bird sounds in the music that plays out there. It's really beautiful!

Amazing video, Jackie! I never got a chance to visit the Mai-Kai despite living in Miami for most of my life. I'll put it on my bucket list for sure! And even though the video was dark in some places, I could still see everything! Great job! And that drink was soooo flippin cool!

It was a delicious desert drink, really lovely. You can buy some of the mugs, but I didn't think to ask if I could purchase that one, darn!! I'll definitely be going back soon, I'll ask about buy it, cuz it's an awesome mug!

Scott French oh I agree and I absolutely paid more than one visit to the beautiful ladies restroom! I didn’t invoice the footage in the vlog out of respect to other patrons, but I did take some footage and photos when I could get the space to myself. The sitting area is magnificent and splendid!!
