This bike is truly, in my opinion, the best middleweight touring motorcycle out there. I'm excited to start making some changes to my new-to-me 100th Anniversary 2003 Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic. It started off a little rocky but I'm not going to let that hinder today's progress. In today's video, the build begins on "Milwaukee" my 2003 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic.

For the rear fender, go to Mustang and order a fender bib and leave the clear protectant tape on the fender. You should be able to get a fender bib to match the seat and tank bib (with studs).

Tall you took me back to teenage years when my older brother (who first introduced me to Harley Davidson) after he came home from the Army. He has since passed away and I own a Road Glide Special but I promised myself I'd get Soft Tail (his 1 and only Harley Davidson) to honor him. Yours inspires me to make that happen sooner. Can't wait to see where you go with it 👍

Tall, that is the correct air cleaner cover that came on the bike.

That is the stock air cleaner. You need an Arlene Ness big sucker and you can use the stock air cleaner lid.

I have a 100th Anniversary derby cover and the air cleaner medallion. I think only the Gold Key bikes came with the anniversary medallions. Had a 100th anniversary nightrain. On second thought it may just be the derby cover I still have.

Keep an eye on them spokes Tall, I purchased a 2010 heritage, got a flat on rear, ran over a screw, thought that was my problem and the spokes were loose,ended up getting both front and rear re spoked, ended up getting some DNA twist spokes, 18r 21f didn’t really change the ride, swapped pipes to fish dual,saved up and got the swing arm chrome kit and left bags off, you may want the windshield back on. Nice bike sir, im interested in upgrading to the light set up, I don’t ride at night but next season I will be and I want to be seen at night, our stock lighting is not that bright,I believe your Aunt or cuzzin has a softy also, I really dig the lights she put on hers.be safe and keep keep up the awesome work Tall, them spokes it’s a must you keep an eye on them like everything else.

Fender bib to protect the rear fender and yes they cam with white walls when new but they area pain to keep looking new. Also need to get you some new bolts to replace the ones you took off for the bags. Fat spokes for the rims, keep the old school look with a modern twist.

Tall keep all the 100 anniversary stuff you take off, they are worth a lot of money,I have 3 anniversary Harley’s, I have purchased a-lot of the 100 anniversary emblems, on the body and the leathers, which I purchased from new old stock and it is expensive, by I have backs ups for my 3 , I did put custom dynamics all them front to back, Enjoy the ride, I also have a 2015 heritage classic and put the wide white walls on her , along with all custom dynamic front to back, I stored the leather and put hard bags on her, She looks very old school which I love, Keep up the good work, I can’t wait to see what you end up with, Enjoy, and be safe

I been looking for one for my softail Deluxe and I kind of like the style of the chrome Trask Assault AC. A bit pricey for me, but performance looks good.

Hi Tall if you want to remove that plastic off the rear fender use a heat gun works great. I use to have 2012 Heritage Softail Classic , heat gun will help peel it off

Hello Tall, I just purchased a used 2010 Road King that I just completed a cosmetic re-build on, shipped from Miami to TEXAS, the forks were horrible from the weather elements in that state, I went to you tube and watched a video on how to polish the forks with diff. grades of sand paper and polish, they came out better then I could have ever imaging... Nice bike and thanks for the video's..

heat gun might help remove the plastic on the fender. It will soften the adhesive. The Heritage handlebars are the most comfortable stock bars I've had on a Harley

Goo Gone is how you get anything sticky off. Change exhaust for a 2 into 1 for more power. Change out the handlebars for something more your reach & style. Same for the seat, extended reach seat with studs ? It's definitely going to Zipper's & I'm sure they have a kit, similar to the 95 inch in the Road King that won't affect the external look of the engine but give you the power you need. Chrome swing arm & white wall tires ? That's a personal choice & leaving off the bags ? I don't know about that one unless you're going to switch them out for hard bags ? Think that's a bit strange but to each their own. I'll keep watching....

I agree with you about replacing those oxidized forks. Go chrome. I also agree with you about getting that black sway bar chromed plated. That will probably be the most expensive and most time consuming mod. A trusted motorcycle shop should take all that apart; it's a lot of work. I wonder if it's cheaper to buy a chrome sway bar or to send that one out to a chrome platter.🤔 Oh yea, definitely go with white wall tires, front and back. Get those two inch thick white walls. I look forward to seeing what handlebars you choose. And I know you will get very bright lights for the front. Those old skool lights are not bright at all. Like you I am not a fan of tassels and studs, so I look forward to seeing what you do about that while maintaining the classic look of the motorcycle. Finally, you can put music on bagless bikes, but it is challenging. There are mini-amps and miniature Bluetooth receivers that allow you to stream music from your phone. Also you can mount speakers to your engine guard. I do not envy you; you have much work to do. I know you will make it funky!

S&S stealth sting air cleaner!. next time when they are stripped just pound the next size up into the bolt head works everytime. now need to full harm swing the hammer love taps brother!

As another tall rider (6’4” exact same bike), there were 4 mods that completely changed the riding experience.. first, I got a LePera daddy long leg maverick seat. It sits the rider back 2” and up 1”. Second, I bought an adjustable brake lever that isn’t extended like some. It actually has a set screw and allows the lever to be rotated forward. I felt like with the stock brake I had to move my foot so far back then up and forward/down to hit the brake. Small mod but HUGE difference. Third, I got 16” apes which (though did give me more room, are a bit too tall. Should’ve gone 14, probably change this yr or next). I also installed a taller custom sissy bar and mounted a bag to it which sits in the passenger seat and allows me to lean back with amazing lumbar and back support. Have the cam chain tensioners been addressed on yours? I had the Fueling hydraulic tensioner upgrade done on mine.

I agree with your windshield comment. I don't ride an HD but a Yamaha Royal Star tour deluxe and its windshield is removable too. I tried to ride the interstate on a week-long trip without it. It sucked, to say the least! I put it back on and only take it off to clean the bike now. That bike needs a windshield.

Hey Tall, I have the Black 2003 Heritage Anniversary edition and it came with the same air cleaner that you have. No mention of 100th anniversary. I think only the official 2 tone, silver & black model came with the 100th anniversary details. You’re missing the Allen bolt to attach the cover

I looked at the same bike on Bring a Trailer and the breather cover did not say anniversary on it. I also put a fender bib on a Softail Deluxe from Mustang. I installed there solo seat with driver backrest.

I have a 100 year FatBoy. I have a high flow air cleaner on it but I still use the stock “football” cover. Mine say exactly what yours says except instead of “Softail Heritage”, mine says FatBoy. It’s the stock cover that came on the bike new. I’ve never seen one that said “100th Anniversary”

Would love to see a springer front put on her. I think you are correct about the 100th ann. parts/accessories. I tried to buy a 100th ann. patch back then and couldn't. Love the gun metal color. One of my favorite colors. I really can't remember if the air cleaner was badged with the 100th ann. badge or not.

Tall, I would forget about the chrome swingarm it’s expensive… Throw a little Harley chrome on this bike, bling pieces. If you’re not satisfied with the wheels upgrade to a mag wheel… In my opinion… The pipe looks wonderful I would go with an Arlen Ness air cleaner. Things to think about. Stage two cam, shorter windshield like 15 inches and a light gray tint. Maybe run a sissy bar on it too. I’ve got one on my bike and I’ve got a bag back there. Plus it looks good with the shorter windshield. I may Chrome my lowers and then that will be it.

Heat gun to heat that fender protector tape and peel it off the use goo gone to clean the extra residual glue off. Will look like it was never there

The cool thing with shotgun shocks you can adjust ride height and rebound separately with only one air line and 2 switches very clean and all hidden

If the anniversary aspect is important to you, then order the matching one. The tear drop is a classic look for a different route.

I like were your going with this Just my two cents once you get the outside all done I would take it to Zippers and do a 107 muscle kit That would give you at least 120 HP and 120 TQ Make it a sleeper bike 😊

YOU may need a windshield because YOU can’t handle the wind. I’ve had a Dyna, two Softails and now my Road King without one. I don’t know why but it bugs the hell out of me when people speak in definitives because they can’t do or don’t like to do something

No your height at least 16” bars with low risers I am 6’3” and I am going 18”bars with 1 1/2” risers

I don't think 14s are to high. I have 16s and a 3in riser on my 06 softail and it's perfect. I also put color match hard bags on it. Definitely white walls.

Modifications? You just said, it’s an anniversary bike, why touch it!! Sorry, but I love to modify my Harley’s but I’ll never get why people want to modify an anniversary or limited model bike or car. Put it in your collection and maybe do another bike. Just my opinion not everyone’s.
