Those type of attic doors work by using springs and they're pretty heavy. It's not uncommon for them to drop down on their own as they get older and worn down and that knocking is clearly staged. As a home remodeler, i can tell The knocking sounds like someone is knocking on something solid like an entry door or a counter top. Hitting the wood of a rafter or the roof or the floor connected to the rest of the house would have a much deeper sound as vibrated the things connected to it and the sound traveled through the sheet rock. It literally sounds like someone is right beside him knocking on a door
