I wouldn't worry about oleo strut extension. That correction if you want to call it that is unnecessary. The strut height can vary based on the weight of the aircraft and the amount of nitrogen that the maintenance personnel services the strut with. Just my opinion

Great looking fix there Nigel, thanks onwards to Mr Fisk for that. Just got my copy of the Italeri 1/32 Tornado GR.4 and having a good look through the contents of the box I think she looks very nice. Wish companies would fix small errors like the one you overcame in your video, they must have had professional modellers building kits for the company, surely a slight tweak to the molds would have prevented any build errors for modellers. But I guess we are back in familiar territory there Nigel, with HKM Lancaster in mind.

Mr. Fisk does some amazing work. Thanks for the tips Nigel always learn something useful from your vidoes. Regarding flat spotting tyres, the vinyl ones that is, have you tried using a clothes iron/steam iron sans the steam setting. If you use a low setting on the iron then place a piece of parchment paper over the irons heating plate then hold the vinyl tire on the parchment covered plate and press the tyre down until it starts to soften and flatten and bulge slightly at the tyres sides then quickly remove the tyre from the iron and dip it in cold water to set the tyre(btw do this with the wheel mounted on the tyre). It may take several tries but it does work if you are careful. Cheers and take care.

Interesting. I shall bare these in mind when mine arrives this week. Talking about vinyl tyres, I always use "old fashioned" poster paint preferably Rowney and have never had an issue. Being water based it's also easy to remove if you have an error.

The resin tyres are good - I also popped for the Eduardo PE set - which has a nice wings bits and upgraded cockpit.

Hi Nige, The picture of the nose oleo where you say it looks like it has collapsed is just that. It has collapsed. It looks like a retired aircraft is a fire and rescue training area so not being maintained.

Point taken.. I am surprised to see the massive variation on service aircraft Ivan? I would have thought the pressures/height would be strictly controlled?
@Andy.Gledhill.Models.
@Andy.Gledhill.Models. 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Nige. I don't know why you hate vinyl tyres. Lots of times when you see photos of aircraft on the ground. There is not much of a flat spot. In fact, in those 3 example pictures you put up, none of them had any substantial flat spots. I have vinyl tyres on my 1/32 Tamiya Phantom, and I think they look fine. I think it's a bit of a myth that there are always flat spots on tyres.

@@NigelsModellingBench Nigel,I don’t know I’m wearing them,I have to be told I’m wearing it.It’s got a padded headband?with a dial on back to adjust size.The first lens is perfect at 1.5x at a 13-15cm focal point for instructions and in the main but you can flip down rear lens for added magnification of 1.5x,2.0,2.5,3.0,3.5 depending what lens you want.The lenses aren’t massive just cover what your focusing on.And you can just push it up above your head and forget about it.I was told that the “reading” glasses aren’t that good for your eyes.Only £12-15,best money you’ll have spent in five years,difference is like salt in your rice,or on your chips…..want me to find one in UK to look at?Ill refund your money if you don’t think it’s ten times better than anything else you’ve tried.

What's wrong with Tornado it's a British best the rest of Europe took our designs, I've built at least 7 of them in 1/48th and 1/32th scale. I've even built 2 1/48th BAC Lightning's,love the Lancaster build though.well done.

Kudos to Mr Fisk there. With some brilliant models. My only observation / criticism would be to ask. Why do many modellers do their aircraft models with drop tanks fitted? 90% of the time, drop tanks were not fitted. EG, they only fitted them to fly the aircraft out to Saudi in Gulf War 1. Once there, the tanks were removed and not used for actual combat sorties.
@NigelsModellingBench

Well Andy, if you Google Tornado, 95% of the pics have wingtanks fitted??

@@NigelsModellingBench Well, actually, if you Google Tornado, you get lots of pictures of the wind variety lol. But seriously, when I went on detachments at RAF Leeming with Tornado's, including the build up to Gulf War 1. The first thing the Line Armourers would do when the jets got out there, was to remove the fuel tanks. Then they would not be put back on again until the jets were ready to return to UK.

@@Andy.Gledhill.Models. that's because they were F3's. The internal fuel capacity of the F3 was 900 lt more than the GR1. Also it's weapon load is a LOT lighter. I was on 31 Sqdn during GW1 based at Dhahran. Across the airfield from us were the F3 boys. The first thing we did was swap drop tanks. The F3 had 2250 lt tanks. We had 1500's. We needed more fuel because we were carrying initally carrying JP233 ( approx 10,000 lb), later 8x 1000lb bombs, and finally 3x Paveway 2 LGB's. We always carried Skyshadow ECM, BOZ 107 and 2x Sidewinder, and going a long way into Iraq. The F3's were carrying 4x Skyflash and 4x Sidewinder, a load of approx 3000 lb and a lot less drag and rarely venturing sausage side so didn't need as much fuel. They also had easy access to AAR Tankers, who did NOT like to fly over Iraq !!! In my 14 years as an Armourer on the Tornado GR1 and 4 ( 31, 617 and IX(B) Sqdns) the only time we flew without tanks was when practicing air to air combat, something the Tonka was hopeless at, both GR1/4 and F3 !!
