Thanks for stopping in to see me continue work on the Italeri S-100 Schnellboot in 1/35 scale. My build represents S-204 'Lang' as she appeared in 1945. Today I'll build and install the 20mm and 37mm flak guns as well as the rubber life rafts. I'll also show you what I use to bend photoetch. Be sure to let me know in the comments if you spot anything I need to fix along the way.
You can also email me at mistergsworkbench@gmail.com

Great looking build so far. Struck by how large this thing is in 1/35. Really enjoy how you walk viewers through what you did on the various components. Looking forward to the next installment.

Thanks very much! This is one of those kits that I didn't see many build videos for, so I try to share as much as possible. Except for that time I forgot to film the gun assembly. Thank you for watching!

Awesome kit, boy its large, and your paint job is really good, no problems, and great PE work, I'm not much of a large 1/35 scale shipbuilder but I do model in 1/700 scale and mainly Japanese shipping and especial the Pearl harbour attacking fleet with mini-subs etc, Cheers from DownUnder, I'm only a new subscriber to your channel, I'm 58yers young, been modelling most of my life and I'm a disabled Veteran, wheelchair-bound. PS keep these great videos coming, very educational, always learning new tricks of the trade.

Hi Bob - first of all thank you for your service. If you're working in 1/700 then you're one up on me. The only ships I've built in 1/700 were some aircraft carriers, but I'm just a little too ham-fisted for the scale. Once this boat is done I have two 1/350 aircraft carriers lined up for builds. Thanks again for tuning in! I'm hoping life in Aussie Land gets back to some kind of normal soon.

@@MisterGsWorkbench You may be right. I myself can't do that, because I lose the momentum on a build. But that's subjective, whatever works for everyone.

G'day John, That's an impressive build already. Looking very good. I'm an ex-Air Force type who mainly does WW2 aircraft, however, I've been attracted to the design features of some of the smaller boats of WW2. Both the Kriegsmarine and the Allies came up with extremely clever torpedo and SAR vessels which I've tackled over the past year or so. One of the books I now have in my library shows the S-100 Schnellboot with a mid to light 'greeny-grey main deck colour, under and around the wooden 'duck-boarding'. Also I’ve read about a couple of friendly fire incidents between the Kriegsmarine and the Italian Navy. So, German torpedo boat Skippers were given pretty much freedom to paint their boats, especially the fore deck and 'dazzle camo' on the above waterline hull, with any designs that the Italians wouldn’t see as potential targets. These included wide red and white diagonal stripes from just aft of the prow almost right back to the bow gun emplacement. R.A.F. and R.A.A.F. SAR boats had their decks painted in dark Navy grey. So, the greenish decks and red and white stripes on Kriegsmarine boats really made them stick out to Allied aircraft, thus is always the problem with bright camo schemes; they are a double-edged sword. As you probably know, the Nazis took to painting huge swastikas on the bow decks of their capital ships… and wondered why they were always found by Allied coastal patrol aircraft. I don’t know the full war history of the particular boat you’re building but I can say with a certain amount of confidence that if this boat operated in the Mediterranean or off the occupied French coast then it would, at some stage, had the more colourful camo scheme. In fact I’ve see a pic of an S-100 with that black panther ‘logo’ on its side before. So, I’m guessing that was a ‘flotilla’ ‘logo’ not one used by a single boat. If you have a look at Harry Houdini’s Models KZfaq channel, you’ll find his Schnellboot models and some other small WW2 boats he’s going to do a comparison on shortly. Harry is a good mate of mine and is quite the expert on all things naval from just about any period of maritime history. I was going to do my first Schnellboot with a standard navy deck till I saw his models. He pointed out his references, which I checked, and found he was dead right. Still, as both Harry and I say, every modeller has to make their models their own, in terms of interpretation; and take your model where ever your research or your own preferences take you. I’ll be following your other episodes of your ‘huge’ Schnellboot. I stuck to the Revell 1/72 scale; quite big enough for an old RAAF type to mess with. Congratulations on your build so far. Cheers, BH

Hi Bill - thanks very much for the compliment! I've got a few books I used for research - the Lang is a fairly well documented boat due to its surrender to the British. I think in 1/35 I'll be able to weather it and give it a unique look. Most of the Atlantic boats were white, so there's that. The Mediterranean boats were more varied - a lot of them were upgraded S-38 boats outfitted with a new armored bridge. I hope you'll share your builds here or on my Facebook page, if you're so inclined. Thanks for watching!
