Thanks for posting this fascinating clip. What is very interesting to me is how, in the hands of an expert, what looks to be some pretty rough treatment is involved to produce a precision, tuned reed at the end of the process. Perhaps, when I next do work on my melodeons, I'll bear this in mind and treat the reeds less as if they'll bite me!

I imagine success is achieved through a lengthy apprenticeship. Italian reeds are the best; my opinion, my ear. Accordions are such amazing instruments.

Well, for the bass side reeds, i prefer russian.

@@krisjanisrudzats5678 - both bass sounds are great for certain types of music. I heard irish music on a bayan and it didn’t sound quite right, and russian music on an italian piano accordions doesn’t sound 100% authentic either...

@@Izakokomarixyz of course in balkan countries we dont use same registers as most of the world and tuning of accordions is pretty much same as russian there is gonna be prefrence and folk music doesnt sound good on italian accordion if tuning is not ment for folk tuning i got my guerinni straight from factory and had to change couple of stuff on it before it was ready for balkan tunes

How do you keep the metal from getting too hot when using the belt sander to profile the reed tongue?

Technologia z epoki kamienia łupanego.Pracowałem kiedyś w fabryce akordeonów i głosy szlifowane były bardzo precyzyjnie na specjalnej szlifierce.

Why are reeds riveted rather than screwed in? Wouldn't screws make replacement easier?

It's some sort of machine oil to prevent rust. I don't know the exact name, there may be several different types in use. I'll try and find out.

I speak English but I suppose you are Mexican so I will talk to you in Spanish. El aceite no es esencial pero si deseas usar algun aceite puedes usar el aceite mineral. Y si no encuentras aceite mineral puedes usar el que le ponen las mamas a los bebes en el cabello o pompis. ja ja.

What type of belt sander are you using to profile the reed tongues? I’m making concertinas and I think this could help in making reeds.
