This is a great invisible cast on for one color brioche, double knitting, tubular cast on and ribbing.

I’m a novice knitter and so delighted to have found your videos, you are an excellent teacher. I love that you explain what’s happening, logic always helps me.

Thanks for sharing Suzanne! The tubular CO method has been too much for my brain to handle, even though I love the look of it. This is something I can get my head around. I will definitely try this one when I CO the next project I have in mind.

I have used this cast on a while ago but have forgotten about it, using the Tubular Cast On and Cast Off. What would be a matching cast of for this...?

Thank you very much Suzanne! your videos are so informative and easy to follow! I follow your italian bind off method and I feel the appearance of the final garment is so much better and neater. I didn't know there was an italian cast on too! I tried the other day to apply the italian cast off on an 100% alpaca (very very hairy) yarn but I had to stop because the look wasn't good at all. I'm about to start a mohair jumper with 3 strands of kid yarn held together but I don't think this method to cast on would be suitable. Should I just cast on with the normal long tail method?

there are several solutions to this situation. first, you could use a smooth yarn of the same weight and color for the cast on and bind off. Second, use the yarn you are using and do the Italian CO, third, try long tail cast on, fourth, try my Twisted Long Tail Cast On in pattern. Of course, experiment will all of these on a swatch before using on your garment. Great question.

When I first learned this, I envisioned that each motion is really identical to doing a knit stitch and a purl stitch. That way I could remember what to do. (Or maybe this is obvious to everyone 🥴) Actually, I first learned it by holding only one needle and manipulating the yarn strictly with my hands. Is there any advantage to that method?

This is a neat looking cast on i assume it works the same of you want a 2x2 rib just make the that way 8n the beginning of the cast on?

Not really. You would have to convert the order of stitches after the first row. Good idea for another video! Happy knitting. Be sure to share my videos!

Is there a way to calculate length of tail for the desired CO number?
@SuzanneBryan
@SuzanneBryan 2 жыл бұрын
A super easy way is to just wrap the yarn around your needle for 10 times. Then measure this. It will tell you how much tail you need for 10 stitches. Then just multiply that to whatever number you need and add a foot or so extra for room for error.

I don't want to be picky but this definitely not Italian cast on. I do like this cast on when i remember how it's done.

Maybe it is that there are different cast ons with the same name. In every reference book that I have, they refer to this cast on as the Italian CO. Happy knitting! And thank you for watching and commenting. I do appreciate your comments.

Knitting with Suzanne Bryan i have seen people do the same and refer to it has Italian tubular etc. It is not Italian my friends and family all knit the same way and it isn't that way my mum used to knit and like you doesn't do a slip knot. I love the way you explain and show how to do different stitches cast on and off and i am always watching them over and over. Keep it up.

The term "Italian cast on" can also refer to a variation of the Long Tail Cast On, a variation of the combined long-tail cast-on, a variation of the German twisted cast on (also called the twisted loop cast on), or a two-strand tubular cast on. Could it be one of those?
