Everyone gets real nervous when there's a crash over Raidillion , firstly because someone could be injured and secondly because it's another nail in the coffin for that sector.

I do think they need to redesign a bigger run off to the right at the top of the hill. Crashed cars running back onto the track appears to be a big issue.

I’d rather spa get dropped than they redesign the track in any way shape or form. And I want spa on the calendar Also, this is not on the corner layout at all but on the barrier choice. That section of track does NOT need tire barriers but safer barriers which are much better suited for higher speed impacts, such as before the kink entering Kemmel Straight.

Every crash at Raidillon makes you think we're about to see another Anthoine Hubert. Try as you might, you just can't kill the beast.

Totally agree. I love racing but there are so many crashes. Tamburello pre-1994 wasn't nearly as dangerous as Radillon and that was altered after Senna.

Hubert's crash was so unfortunate. Even a massive crash at Radillon is usually ok because of the space and run-off.

It was the first warning in this year, today in same place van't Hoff died, but in much worse conditions comparing to this. Now I have a fear to watch any race on Spa seriously... R.I.P. 😔

I think the armco barrier on the right side coming from radillion is still too close to the track. Not enough run of room for going off at top speed. Once again the car bounced back to the track just like Hubert did. This guy is lucky.

For those criticising the safety of Raidillon, the changes made to the barrier has made the corner A LOT safer. See the Cadillac crash in WEC. In previous years that car would've bounced back onto the track but it was contained in the run off area. That wall was the real danger. Also we have to remember the Hubert crash was not because he bounced off the track, his car was contained in the run off, but debris from yes, a crash into the barrier on the left, the barrier that has been changed, sent Correa into Hubert's car. IMO they should also move this barrier back (I think it is doable even with the drop) but the most dangerous part of the corner has been made safer and it has made a lot of difference already preventing what would've been bad crashes...

@@VladTheSour I can explain today. For me what happened today was not wholly due to the track. It wasn't a case of a driver bouncing off the barrier and being impacted. It was a case of a driver most likely losing it all on his own in wet conditions (the footage doesnt make it clear but it seems thats what happened) and being impacted, looking at the footage, Fitzgerald did not have a chance to avoid even if the barriers were further back. What happened today can happen on any track it just coincidentally happened there...

I’m sorry but I can’t agree with that. The whole thing started with a driver hitting the wall at Radillon, and everyone scrambling to avoid as the car yet again, bounced into oncoming traffic. Granted, Dilano was hit round the kink on Kemmel, but the causal point of the chaos was Radillon again. No other closed permanent circuit has a higher death rate in the last 40 years. And 8 of the last 9 driver deaths at the track have been at Eau Rouge/Radillon/Kemmel. That part of the track is too dangerous. Speed is too high, risk is too high. Lessons aren’t being learnt. Even the Nordschleife has had less deaths in competition than Spa in the last 20 years.

@@masterryangames770 Tramnitz, who was the initial car that spun at Raidillon was well out of the way by the time Van't Hoff came round. The Van't Hoff incident was a completely separate incident that had no connection to the Tramnitz one, Van't Hoff either aquaplaned on his own or was hit by another driver into a half spin

i was on the stand at radillon, you could already see it coming along the straight from turn 1, the 2 VAR cars we're to close for comfort.

It's the pit exit. The pit exit that was installed in 2002 goes up the inside of Eau Rouge/Raidillon and it took away the barrier that was once there. That made that section even faster and enhanced the danger even more so.

Indeed. Sports worth billions of euros race at that track, and the best solution they have for safety one of the most famous and dangerous corners is some painted used tyres? Couldn't someone spend just a tiny fraction of their paycheque and fix it once and for all?

@@drunkenhobo5039 Spa has a money issue actually. They barely managed to change the corner. Racing series dont pay for track stuff. They actually charge for racing on them. Thats why we see a lot of Middle East and Asian tracks replacing European ones. Those 2 regions are ready to pay a lot to develop their soft power and international reputation.

The design of the track is for next level racers only F1 the track is not suitable for f2,f3,f4 and so on, the skill set needed and awareness is top level

Was biting my teeth as soon as I saw that little bit of contact in the background. Then once I saw the full crash the only thing I could thing of is Anthoine. Worst place crash. Yet again the barriers on the right side of Raidillon just bounce cars back to where they came from.

Well, there were enough warnings, even only looking at this season and yesterday we lost another life. I know motorsports are dangerous, but they should investigate the EAU Rouge-Radillion-Kemmel Straight section

Yeah sure acary and stuff, but the crash was not as close at Radillion as other crashes. The big runoff was so car didnt bounce off back to the racing line in a blind corner. But in that section, at least you have time to react

The real problem here is : the "soft" barrier bounces back the car into the incoming traffic. And this is NOT THE FIRST TIME. Spa must learn about this & should improves the safety, especially with the barrier which not bounces back the car into incoming traffic.

You can't just have a barrier with incredible stopping power too as that is also dangerous and could lead to fatalities due to the sheer DE-celeration

@@insertgenericusernamehere2402 I would not said that "we don't need soft barrier", don't get me wrong, but the soft barrier itself tends to " throw back" the car into the incoming traffic. We have the SAFER barrier which when hit, allows a bit of sliding along with the barrier, not bouncing back the car instantly, while also absorbing impact energy. They are proven in NASCAR & North American race scene.

They only changed the runoff and walls. The racing surface itself is the same as it's always been.

Why haven't they extended the run off!! There's even room now for the tyre barrier to go fuether back, what the hell are they playing at. Spending all that money on changes and a new grandstand and can't move a barrier. Dont give me that hill crap either, they coulc easily build a structure to extend the run off if they had it as a priority. Shameful.

Too many people to race in one complete F4 series, so It's split into nationalities. Italians go into Italian F4, Brits go into British F4, etc etc. Then they're promoted into F3 - and yada yada yada.

los que se quejan que se dediquen a mirar otra cosa ya que no están preparados para los accidentes...el riesgo siempre va a estar algo que esta generación de fans nuevos y no tanto les cuesta aceptar !! Lo unico que piden es destrozar los circuitos haciendolos mas faciles para los pilotos !!. Si los pilotos les da miedo pues que se pongan hacer otra cosa y dejen el automovilismo !! De seguro quiren circuitos como el de Francia paul ricard...circuito bien feo, aburridor y con cero riesgo. Si a los pilotos le da miedip pues retirate no pidas que cambian el trazado o todo un circuito por vos. Y a los fans les digo lo mismo!!...dejen de pedir destrozar circuitos ! Si no quieren accidentes corran solo en Paul ricard de a un auto solo limitados a 70 km/h y se terminan los accidentes. Parte de la esencia del automovilsmo y motociclismo era el riesgo !

That was the exact way Hubert died, but instead of truly improving the safety of the corner, Spa build grandstands nearby. Job well done. Great there weren’t any casualties this time.

There is a lot more space offside the track now for cars to got though since part of the landscape was removed in order to build the grandstand, but it stays extremely dangerous

@@NL1108 Yes, that’s true- they widened the runoff at turn 4 which improved the safety, but my point is that primary cause of the most serious incidents (Hubert, this one, and much more) is the wall at the exit of 5 which was pretty much untouched. I understand the terrain limitations, and I’m no expert in architecture, but from the perspective of Motorsport fan I am deeply disturbed that at the first glance nothing really has changed, and extremely dangerous accidents still are happening there (but you can see them well from the shiny new grandstand).

What can they actually do without changing the whole structure of those corners? You're watching racing. These drivers voluntarily put themselves into killing machines to race them. Sometimes people die. That's just how racing has always been and will continue to be like that. There's only so much you can do to a track to improve safety without completely destroying it.

How many more seasons will Spa stay open? Crashes at Radiollon get bigger the safer they try to make it. Pushing barriers back makes drivers more confident to push so more mistakes and misjudgments happen.

Someone is going to die in that part of the track again, it's inevitable. Spa should not be hosting any races anymore, it's far too dangerous. It should only be used for testing and lap records like the Nurburgring.

The Nurburgring Nordschleife is still used for races. The biggest race it hosts is the 24 hours of the Nurburgring, which has a starting field of well over 100 cars. They also have their own championship (VLN) which runs a few races a year on the Nordschleife.
