The most amazing thing about Dimash, apart from his voice, is his versatility. I usually listen to a singer depending on the genre he sings and I can say "Oh, I like opera and singer X sings opera, so I listen to him or I like him". You can't do that with Dimash. He can sings almost anything and it's impossible not to find something you like. If you have the patience to listen to him, he has something for everyone. Hence the heterogeneity of his fan club - people so different in nationality, age, culture ... If you like such songs, in which it doesn't use his whole vocal range (I like them too) there are many! Try Daididau kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iMdkqZRqt9aak4U.html ... Or Durdaraz (if you like folk combined with rock!) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sNVogshqlde-mGg.html As an instrumentalist, you will surely like the sound of the dombra!

I'm so glad you gave Dimash another chance. Dimash's country means everything to him and he wants to share it's music with the world. He puts his heart and soul into all of his music but something magical happens when he sings Kazakh songs. I could see just how much the music touched you. Please do more Dimash reactions, I think you will find more to enjoy and more that will touch your heart.

Dimash fans are passionate and it has a reason and his extraordinary voice, perfect technique and emotional interpretation is just a part of it - it's his versatility, his unique way of combining different styles AND most of all his personality - gentle, friendly, compassionate, proud of his heritage, culture, family and but always respectful to everyone wherever he goes. He draws people from all around the world together listening to different music styles, foreign langues that they would never do otherwise. It's unusual, surprising and beautiful.

Thanks for your honest opinion. I have not seen you react to any of his songs before but I take from your discussion that there have been other songs you don't care for. We all have different tastes in music , different needs of it. Some like to be uplifted, or soothed, or excited, even challenged. "Samaltau" is a beautiful song with a solemn story and it has touched your heart in a way that other, more flamboyant songs have not. Dimash says his style is neo-classical. I think because he has had classical training he sometimes brings that style to songs. It typically would mean the first verse was sung plainly and then on the repeat the singer was expected to embellish and ornament the second verse and chorus to show their technical skill. This is a very solid tradition of the classics. I expect every opera singer in the world does this still. I feel sure Dimash would be very aware of this tradition. What you see in "Samaltau" however is the simplicity of a folk-song , unembellished, just straight from the heart. His Dears simply love his music because all of it comes from his heart, however it is delivered. Good wishes from New Zealand. Keep safe.

❤ Hello, "Dear". I enjoyed your review of Samal Tau. So I decided to search through my notes so I could help to answer the questions you asked. The words Samal Tau means "windy mountains". It's a place in Kazakhstan. Which is Dimash's homeland. "Samal Tau" is a historical song. 1916...World War 1... The Russian Tsar issues a decree on the draft of Kazakhs aged 19 - 39 years, in the Army. "Samal Tau" is the song of these recruits. The place where they came from was called Samal Tau in the North Kazakhstan region. The name of the author is not preserved in the memory of the people. The song contains the words: "We wander tired, very tired for 15 days, almost reached Omsk. Samal Tau, where I was born and raised, was left behind. Elderly parents stayed at home. How are they supposed to live without me?" The song also has information about the age of the author. He is a little over two mushels old. He was born in the year of the cow, which means in 1888, so he was 28 years old. The following lyrics are what Dimash sang in his song... "Samal Tau, my native land, the immense sea. What days awaits me as soldier? I always remember the homeland again, in which I was born and grew up. I'm not riding, I walk. Even slower than walking. For fifteen days of trekking. Approaching towards Omsk. I am at the age of two cycles, from the year of the cow. By the will of fate, I went to a faraway land. Samal Tau, I left home behind me. Like a herd of horses, we were teared out of our home countries. My mother and my father. They are old people of advanced years...This song was composed in the 16th year of the misfortune. Samal Tau, my native land, the immense sea. What days awaits me as soldier?" The ancient two stringed native Kazakh instrument that the man was playing is called, a "Kobyz". The strings are made of horsehair. The resonating cavity is usually covered with goat leather. According to legends, the Kobyz" and its music could banish evil spirits, sickness and death. And it imitates animal voices of the Kazakh Steppes. I hope this information is helpful. It was fun for me to review it again. ❤

The tool is called Kobyz. Kobyz is the ancestor of the violin. Two strings, imposed on the kobyz, are twisted from horse hair. The total length of the tool is 60-73 cm. The double Cup of the resonator reflects the tengrian worldview of the nomads-the creators of kobyz-in which the dawn and sunset are reflected, and in two strings-the top and bottom of the universe. İt is called Kobyz. İt is ancient Kazakh instrument, it is about 4000 years old. İt has 2 strings made of horse hair. İt makes sounds of nature like wind, sand, wolf, night birds, dogs barking, baby crying etc etc, as well as it plays a music too. When you hear it live it makes you meditative and definitely you have goosebumps. İ feel it like something magical living it's own life, telling ancient stories. The second one is sybyzgy, which looks like flute.

We witness Dimash's development as an artist. In his early performances, he used a whole range of different styles to convey the emotional depth of a song. Cririques were oftentimes so overwhelmed and dazzled by the stylistic eclectizism and vocal artistry that they did not recognize them as part of an artistic performance, but regarded them as a musical tour-de-force, kind of vocal athletics. Now, as Dimash matures as an artist, he often chooses vocal styles more consistently. However, since his fans love it, he still remains artistic at certain points of his performances. Another thing that he has started already in the Singer show back in 2017 (and which you seem to particularly enjoy in this piece) is weaving middle-eastern singing techniques into otherwise western-style music, e.g. in his cover of Hello by Lionel Richie. It has become much more frequent in his more recent performances. Excellent examples of this can be heard in Sinful Passion and, more recently, in Know.

Good reaction, and well done for sticking with us. It's far harder to be truthful when something doesn't quite hit the spot than to just go with the flow. I think many Dears will take it as a personal challenge to find the right Dimash songs for you. I struggled with his songs in English to begin with but could listen to those sung in Chinese for hours without understanding a word. It's best to hear Dimash sing in your language after hearing him sing in the other 11, then any quirks of his speech are overshadowed by the extraordinary range of what he does .

Sorry for my fellow Dears, we do get carried away when it's about Dimash. Thanks for staying with us! Non-epic songs, hm ... difficult, they are all epic ... For a bit less epic (but not less spectacular) try: "Across Endless Dimensions", "We are One", "Love is like a dream", they are deep, calm but they do have some surprising stuff in the end. For more relaxed songs try: "Makhabbat ber magan" (Give me Love), "Marigolds" and "Unforgettable Day" (NOT the Bastau version, unless you want to hear one one the highest notes ever sung by a male ;) ). If you like opera, then "Ti amo cosí" is quite wonderful.

Ti lascio il link e buon ascolto !kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iMdkqZRqt9aak4U.html

Giving praise where its due is always a good thing so thank you for the kind comments on Samaltau. Dimash always tries to give something for everyone and sometimes a song is not your taste but he still gives it 110% anyway bc it might be for another person watching from another country.. one person said his music is an acquired taste, I think anything new and different has to be acquired for anyone to appreciate it. The instant society mentality of expecting to hear ones favourite sounds keeps us in that stagnant loop. Dimash challenges that norm, pushes away former boundaries in music so we can step out and expand our own music horizons and learn to appreciate the different aounds from different countries, styles, genres and savor the experience. It is an organic experience and shouldn't be rushed. He's a very smart artist. Thanks again for your reaction, i hope to see more Dimash!🤗👍👍

Thank you for being so considerate . In" Samaltau " Dimash sings a tragic song about a young man being forced to leave his elderly parents and go to war. A folk song in the classic Kazakh manner. In this position, folk singers usually sing, sitting by a fire in the steppe. Kazakh folk instruments are hung on the walls. I think he wanted to introduce the audience to the culture of the Kazakh people. And Dimash chose this song not without black humor. The guy on whose behalf the song is sung was mobilized for the war with Japan and marches on foot with others. That is why we hear the sounds of the wind on the steppe, the howling of the wolf, the barking of dogs, the cries of cranes, and running water. You said you play the guitar. You will probably be interested to know that Dimash is a multi-instrumentalist. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fN-HqKmSs7HDZ5s.html - Dimash plays 7 instruments After successfully completing performances at the "Singer" competition in China, Dimash performed at home in Kazakhstan for a 3-hour solo concert. Here is a video with the song "Daydidau" from that concert where he sings, accompanying himself on the dombra. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iMdkqZRqt9aak4U.html And if you like soulful songs, I can offer you to watch a video from a concert in Kiev, where he sings the song "Marigolds", about a son who remembers his beloved mother in a foreign land. This is not a virtuoso or technical song, but it is full of feelings and emotions. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jtKoZdOetJmuqok.html The lady shown in the audience is Dimash's mother.

Dimash’s has a new music video called Qairan Elim, (My Holy Land) I think you will like it. It has the same instrument as in this song, I know the name of it begins with K but can’t remember the rest! This is another traditional style song.

Dimash has a wide range of songs and styles. I don't have a good sense of which ones would appeal to you. Yes. At times there is an element of showing off in some of Dimash's performances. But by in large, what appears to be showing off is just Dimash using what nature gave him to make beautiful music. He uses all his voice to make music which is emotional and beautiful. Appreciation of music is very subjective and what is beautiful to some not so much to others. For a very emotional performance I recommend his performance of Daybreak at Bastau. I don't know if it is the kind of song you would like but you could give it a try. I do recommend that you go to Gloria Wu's site and view the backstory of that song so you understand what it is about.

Idk why but it irks me so when ppl say he's a show off; when he's just being himself. It's not his fault that he has an incredible talent, a pleasant personality, a voice to die for and good looks to boot. He's not lazy in his pursuit of excellence yet when he shows what he can do - it's "oh he's just a show off". It smacks of playground scenes where kids tell tales of some kid being a show off. Supposing KZfaq is the big kids playground who is the matured one, the 26yo artist or the possibly older viewer accusing him of showing off. Its too stupid. Dimash's dedication to his chosen path, his determination to push through & overcome the obstacles he faced with great courage, humility and integrity are not about showing off. It's sheer hard work, all 20+ years of his life. I wish those who think he is a show off would learn a bit more about him before making such childish claims. And this is a general rant from me, not targetting anyone in particular and certainly not the dear family bc I know when a dear says it, its from a place of understanding/knowing Dimash but I just got off 2 channels where some viewers accused him of such things. Hard to believe sometimes that a gentle soul like Dimash has attracted such animosity. It defies all logic.

I'm so glad you like this song. Some background on the song. It's about a Kazakh soldier thinking about his home while the army was travelling on the plains. The instruments you hear play the sound of the wind, the rain, the loneliness and the pining for home. The song really touches you to the core, doesn't it? Thank you for an enjoyable reaction. 😊 I think there's another song you may just like. Let me look for it. The Meaning of Eternity. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eM-obMuQtaymeZs.html May I recommend you another singer, Tan Wei Wei. She's an accomplished singer from Chin and she's singing a classic Mongolian song called The Night of Ullanbattar. It has unique instruments called the horsehead qin and Mongolian throat singing called Hu Mai. I believe you may just like it. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNqZY5Nm39WqZ5s.html

Dimash is the best singer that I ever found, I am not singer but I sing very well, always in choir, chose to run family business , but music is my everyday routine to enjoy, Dimash sing every song in different way, so far nothing yet that I found dislike, if you didn't like, that's fine, is just your test of music is different, my husband like James Taylor, I like Bob Dylan, peace for us , Dimash is the only ONE that I follow everyday though.

I admire you for your calmness and consistent explanation of your point of view. Probably many have understood, I assure you. I appreciate and enjoy immensely. This performance has a climate and mystical atmosphere, the heart flows with the music. Uff... If I can I suggest you something else Dimash - "Ocean over the time", or folk / rock Kazakh song "Durdaraz" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rZOCqbhoz86xemQ.html ( 0:21:00) from his solo concert in New York. I think the instrument is called Kobyz. The instruments are imitating the sounds of nature as the soldier is walking. It’s a very sad but powerful song sung by the greatest voice of Dimash. It truly is a very touching & emotional song. I love it as I love each & every song which Dimash sings because more than anyone he knows how to tell the story with his magnificent voice of each song. 🤗❤️🥰🇨🇦🇨🇦

The viola type instrument is called a kobyz, its history dates back over 5,000 years, the flute is a sybyzgy and it's used by shepherds and hirse herders, the tube is called a rain stick, it also sounds like the grass on the Kazakh Steppe blowing in the wind. This is an article about the story of this song, its fascinating and very sad 💖
