I love love Caravaggio. His paintings are so nuanced, detailed, and dramatic. The way he paints facial expressions is both realistic and exaggerated at the same time. There is also a hint of campiness to his art which I find fascinating as well, especially when examined with a modern point of view.

Caravaggio is the bomb. He's kind of dramatic. Like "You like pretty boys, so sweet and young and full of life? Well they're gonna age and DIE like the rest of us. Look at my beautiful fruit, WITH THE SEEDS OF DEATH AND CORRUPTION!' I said I like Raphael, who as far as renaissance painters go I think those two are kind of opposites. Raphael was not as original or dramatic, more calm and intensely beautiful all about the good vibes and the asthetic. But Caravaggio is my other favourite.

I think I could listen to you for hours talking about period architecture. Renaissance, for me is the epitome of symmetry, proportion and geometry and is done beautifully as a revival. From Renaissance right the way up to Baroque have got to be my favourite. All though I don’t have a favourite architect, but I think the Italian, Leon Batista Alberti can give us a run for our money. I’ve really enjoyed this video and looking forward to seeing this beautiful build in all its glory. Btw, I love the frescos you’ve used.

I like Artemisia Gentileschi. She painted lots of bold dramatic sometimes violent pictures but the colours are amazing.

As an art history student (weeks away from graduation), I was never particularly drawn towards the Renaissance artists at all and often I've preferred ancient art. However, I must say that Artemisia Gentileschi always stuck out to me. She's a female artist, not often addressed in art history classes unless specifically about female artists or you have a cool professor, but she's responsible for many dark images packed with such action and gesture, my favorite of her's being her masterpiece "Judith Beheading Holofernes." Unlike most male artists' depictions of this tale, taking liberties of making Judith half nude and limply holding a sword like a dainty flower, she captures the strength and brutality of the act. Heironymous Bosch is also always a fun one, his work is overwhelming and chaotic and you could spend hours combing through each tiny story contained within the larger narrative of the full paintings. Edit: Also it is so funny that you mention Brunelleschi, because while his architecture is impressive I mostly know him as the man who forfeited the opportunity to work on the Florence Baptistry doors to another artist, Ghiberti, after he refused to collaborate with him because the panel for the competition they entered couldn't decide on which one of them to choose. Then he just gave up on sculpture and dove into architecture, which was for the best as he would go on to make lots of stunning buildings and accomplish impressive feats of engineering, but it was still funny to learn about. There's so much hilarious drama in the Renaissance period that's worth researching like how Michelangelo hardly ever finishing most of his work.

For Italian Renaissance painters, I like Tiziano and Botticelli a lot, and for Spanish Renaissance, I like El Greco (though he was Greek). For paintings, I'm more of a Barroque gal myself with the light in the scenery and the portrait's eyes, but for poetry... I'm so divided between the two periods because they both are SO good! I loved this video, as all your content! I am currently rewatching older videos of yours because your content gives me so much peace of mind. Thank you, Leo! P.S.: as you mentioned Brunelleschi, I'm sure you know his San Lorenzo church, bur in case yoi don't... It's amazing. So tasteful!

Hemessen! She's super underrated nowadays. Her self portrait was studied by art historians quite a lot, well, it was interesting to me when I read about it. I also love the works of Cosmé Tura. The Calliope painting is my personal favourite.

Also!!! Have you ever thought of recreating a Gaudí building? I don't even know if there is CC for it as his trencadís technique was so unique, as well as the rest of his décor ideas, but it'd be sooo cool!

I would love to see you make a build with the new decor to the max kit. I want to see the wonders you can make. I'm thinking roaring 1920s mansion, orientalism in classic cinema or theater.

Hi, since you're interested in renaissance and period drama, may I suggest "Medici"? it's an italian tv show about the Medici family with Richard Madden in the role of Cosimo De Medici. Coincidentally, Cosimo was the one who hired Brunelleschi, who was a goldsmith, to build the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore. Thanks to Brunelleschi self-supporting structure the dome was build in 16 years, sadly Cosimo never saw it completed.

I’m a Leonardo girl too 😂 but I’m more interested in his “secrets” than his art. By secrets I mean all the encrypted messages he was hiding in all his works. Man was a genius.

Raphael is my favorite from early reinassance by far, his compositions and attention to detail are incredible - I could spend hours looking at each small detail among the poets, philosophers and theologians he painted on Stanza della Segnatura. Michellangelo is great too, but he leans too heavily on anatomy and not enough on composition (which is why the Sistine Chapel as a whole feels cluttered even though each part is amazing). Leonardo is superior to both as a polymath, but as a painter he has achieved very little when compared to the others - even if you like symbolism and secret meanings, Raphael is way superior given the sheer amount of details. Now, if we're including the 'second generation' of artists too, Titian and Caravaggio (and Bernini on sculpture) learned the best tricks from the previous masters and expanded them even more in intensity and presentation. Anyway, thank you for your historical builds! I hope we can see more reinassance-inspired buildings from you - a Palazzo Vechio or Duomo build would be a dream!

The reneissance artist that I've looked online the most is Hans Holbein the younger, mostly for Tudor portraits.
