For some time now, my father-in-law has been the president of GAVS Reggio Emilia, a volunteer organization that restores historic aircraft.
As part of this activity, we got involved with our friend Alessandro, a professor at the University of Bologna, and his students in an attempt to make parts using a 3D printer and create a model of the Gnome, Lambda (80HP) radial engine for an airplane. This video shows the day we assembled the engine model.
Dr. Alessandro Ceruti is from Reggio Emilia. He teaches Industrial Engineering at the University of Bologna and is himself a PhD in Aerospace Engineering.

This is probably the first attempt in Italy to make parts using a 3D printer and assemble an airplane engine model. I think this is also the spirit of Motor Valley.
