I remember living in Peru, sitting on the couch with my dad. I wanted France to win, my dad was going for Italy, but we were expecting a great final. After eating lunch, nothing else to do but watch the final. Those days were great and I didn't even know it. Wish I could go back to those days.

Wow, after 15 years, Italy wins another tournament, especially Euro, wearing the same color (blue), losing but tying the match and then winning by penalties. This is a real big change since they didn't qualify for the 2018 WC. Congratulations Azzurri from South America

Pirlo..(Italy) These 2 are really a class apart...Their tactical gameplay with ball is outstanding..Their playmaking skill is nothing short of a case study.. Missing this kind of football !!!

the best italian squad ever.. how can you underestimate a team that at that time had buffon, nesta, cannavaro, zambrotta, gattuso, pirlo, totti, del piero, inzaghi and others.. even great every position starting from defender, defender wingers, midfielders, to strikers all contributed goals throughout the tournament. i miss this team

That Pirlo free kick in 77th minute. The three corner kicks by Pirlo in the first half. His playing style: always finding space to be alone, recieve the ball and conduct the game. Incredible player. Modric, De Bruyne, Kroos - nobody will ever get close to Pirlo again.

2006 was my earliest WC i remember. I was 6 years old back then. The matches used to be around 10pm in our country. We used to watch those matches together. I didn't know what football was back then, but i just wanted to be a part of those family gatherings. This match literally took me back to my childhood 😧😦

This may not be one of the greatest finals ever but the atmosphere of this match is something else. There is some kind of an enigma on it.

This was a fascinating match between two world class teams. Neither side gave the other an extra inch. Both teams were tactically sound & the physicality was off the charts. Penalties, early goals, crossbar hits, controversial penalty shouts, last ditch tackles, brilliant saves, red cards ------ this match had everything. And the field was full of legendary players. It was an absolute treat to watch.

The 'garra' shown by Italy in that world cup was amazing. They defeated the best team in that cup (France).

I remember watching this as a little kid and taking away that Cannavaro was the greatest defender I’ve ever seen play. This little 5”9 defender fighting like a warrior it made me love defensive football even to this day. What an amazing game

Me and family was on vacation in italy this Summer and this is my best football memory, we saw the game in the beach they put a big screen there so people could watch.

This definitely brings back into my first football memories. Watched it together with all the neighbourhood fam on a big screen, i still remember i have to make sure my eyes wide opens bcs this match was at 4am in the morning during Malaysia time, i barely watched it while being sleepy & that Zidane’s moment make me stay to watch the match till penalty kick. Later at school i proudly telling how ive witnessed the epic game bcs most of my friends are not watching it as at that time it was hard to watch for live broadcast and it is somewhat a privilege😂😂😂

That was Zidane's final match on the pitch. How sad that was for him to end like that. He was one of the finest footballers in FIFA history! Had he not lost his temper, I think France may well have won their second World Title that night!

This is bitter-sweet...I'm Italian. We missed the 2018 Word Cup, we won the European Cup...and again we failed to qualify to the Word Cup. It never happened to us before. We consider this a national tragedy.

I'm from Russia. I was 10 years old in 2006. It was the first World Cup I watched. I supported the Italian team. Del Piero, Cannavaro, Pirlo, Totti, Buffon...Legends! 🇮🇹⚽️🏆⭐⭐⭐⭐ I was very happy for them! 🤩🤙

I was 14 years old back then and as a Frenchy, after that game, I cried and cursed the Italians for winning dirty. But after rewatching this game for the first time tonight, I realize Italia had a slightly better organised team. It's very mild but visible. French team had a gap between midfield and attack, and Zidane could barely express himself as he used to, because the Italian defense locked him up very well. Although it was not a spectacular game to watch, it was technicaly but especially, tactically a pleasure for the eyes. This French team probably deserved to win the tournament, that's for sure. But Italia had a legendary team and they won the game you need to win in order to be crown. And this italian team surely deserved to win a trophy. I mean, look at those names, everyone is a legend in this team. France only clearly dominated beginning of second half and during after time, before the red card. That's it. I can't believe I'm gonna say that but well done Italia, you won it fair and square. My heart is now at peace. It will forever remain a French tragedy tho.

The quality of live broadcasting in 2006 is a million times better than the quality of broadcasting the Egyptian League 2024

This World Cup final that just felt bigger than all the other ones before or since. Maybe it was the stadium having a track making it appear larger, or the drama with the headbutt, or the fact it went to penalties, just the stakes seemed so much higher in this one, even more than than 2022. Comparing the World Cup Final penalty shootouts, in 2022 the 'over the shoulder' camera view made it seem smaller, but the wide angle view, used in 2006 made it seem huge, and thus more important.

The only player missing on the field here was the legendary Paolo Maldini.

Growing up, zizou was my favorite player. I remember watching this match as a 6 year old boy and crying all night long. It broke my heart when he got the red card. In France for the next month, you couldn’t leave your house without seeing a shot of his head butt. Everywhere you went you were constantly reminded of what happened this night.
