Obviously...I remember in '85 doing my basic training in Woolwich which at the time was the RA Depot & I used my shaving foam in the locker layout. During an inspection the Sgt looked ( my locker was always good) & was going to walk away when he suddenly decided to check my shaving foam...yup there was a tiny speck of foam on tge nozzle 😂 He then sprayed it on my nose 😂

Very nice, i remember ours getting destroyed many times along with the bed squares, Cambrai barracks, 1980, intake 80/18, Fifth royal inneskillen dragoon guards.

I lost count of how many times our lockers decorated the trees outside our block ! Like christmas trees every day ! Mark you this was back in 1976 jnr ldrs regt royal engineers !

holy shit they have carpet now. . . . Catterick was a shithole when i whent, back in the late 80's. had these bloody buffers had to do the floor with, boots left black marks if you scuffed them on the floor, so we all walked around like twinkle toes.

Phase 1 with paper in t shirts are ssm use to come round with a stick if felt paper round the block you go time you come back your locker on the floor lol good times

Former 60s guardsman. Excellent squared away accommodation, personal kit and and what it’s all about, pride! I hope, but wonder if this cleanliness and pride is kept up at your next unit or battalion?

At least he doesn’t have to make up a “bed pack” every day, that was a major pain when I went through basic with the R.A.F. back in the late ‘70s.

AWolf 91, With the R.A.F. you were issued 3 grey blankets, 2 white sheets and 1 top cover, normally orange in colour, you folded the blankets and sheets so that they were the same size and slightly narrower than the width of your bunk, fold the top cover so that it was the same width as your blankets and sheets, lay the top cover across your bunk so that it hangs over both sides equally, you then placed blanket, sheet, blanket, sheet, blanket in that order onto the top cover making sure their folded sides faced out and they were wrinkle free and didn’t sag in the middle, you then wrapped the top cover around them tightly tucking one end inside the other, then you flipped the whole lot over so the tucked in part was on the bottom, if done correctly you ended up with an an almost box shaped bed pack, if done incorrectly you ended up with a mess of sheets and blankets on the other side of the barrack room.

How about a step by step as to how you folded these sheets? Where did the pillow casing go? Or was that already around your pillow for inspection?

The training staff would find a reason to say your white porcelain mug was dirty and drop it on the the floor, where it would normally smash, so you have to buy another. For some reason every time they did that to my mug it would just bounce off the floor. I was well known for the bouncing mug. They managed to destroy it on my pass out day - Threw it out the window. I always wonder about that mug every now and then and wished that had thrown me out the window so i would had not of wasted 9 years of my life.

Here's another army video on my history... My parents see it and are like "Oh, now you wanna leave us and join the army? You wouldn't stand a chance," I watch these videos for research for my novel :'( The number of times I have told them that, and they still think I'm gonna go off and join the army XD Mad respect for anyone that does though, I would love to join the army, but my parents are right, haha. Writing is the closest I'm gonna get and I'm okay with that.

Trust them to pick an immigrant. The WOKE forces in the UK now. The amount of space he has in that wardrobe, I could have slept in there. In the 90's our wardrobes were not as spacious as these, we literally had one shelf and that was it. We would certainly not have that many uniforms, if you had more than two of anything then you would be on a charge as they would assume that you have stolen the extra items.
