Isn't it a time when IR was sidelined by all major directors, actors and producers? IR was doing great in the rest of the South especially Malayalam, and his music in Kaalaapaani, Guru etc. were prolific and SUPERIOR than even Arr's Rangeela which was just trendy ear-candy. Thanks to Fazil, Kaadhalukku Mariyadhai album did very well. Remember, even an album like Avathaaram (ultra-low-budget movie) was swept under the carpet like diamonds in landfill. Post-1991 - things changed; it was a decade of booming cassette sales, thanks to Ilayaraja's album THALAPATHI, Indie Pop music, and more importantly, Cable TV. Cable TV changed how people listened to music, for bad; got worse after the CDs came in, and more awful in the Internet / Social media era!

I used to hate Deva those days purely because of my addiction to Raja’s tunes. As I grow older and wiser I now realised what a gem of a person he is (unlike that arrogant Raja). Deva has given us some of the best music in Tamil Cinema. And I’m glad I’ve grown up listening to these timeless classics. 1. Mudhal mudhalil paarthen 2. Irubathu vayadhu varai 3. Songs from Ninaithen Vandhai 4. Songs from Kanave Kalaiyaadhe 5. Songs from Enn Aasai Machan 6. Songs from Kaadhal Kottai And the list goes on ! Deva is a magician :-)

That is WHY it is EASY to conclude that IR is the FINEST and the most PROLIFIC Indian composer ever. There is nobody in the next 99 top spots at least! If you want, you could ask me about an obscure composer and his music from any decade from 70s; oh, there were a bunch of female composers too. Listened to many of black-and-white era ones also. I am NOT against your "celebrating"; you are FREE to listen to / like anybody's music! But, flattering is NOT my cup of tea; maybe it is yours.
