A legal right is worth exactly zero if you can't enforce it. Of course they could have called the police, but cops and security guys typically sleep under the same blanket. And attorneys are expensive and sometimes don't do their job properly.

I'm impressed that you speak/write english. Correct me if i'm wrong but honestly, i feel like in France there's ZERO culture of learning languages. I've worked in several restaurants and petrol stations with high affluence of foreigners and i have yet to meet a french person who speaks anything other than... french.

It's more common than you think actually :) I'm French too and I feel like there is a secret community of us speaking English haha. Especially among 20-ish people! English classes are terrible so most teens don't really know how to speak it, adults and old people have never learnt or their classes were bad too, but it seems that for my generation, thanks to internet, our generation's culture, and travels, we're a lot more interested in learning it on our own.

I worked as airport security for 10 years and I'm a goth...only fucking idiots who have no business being in that field of work would pick on a goth! You are completely spot on! I'm not just saying this because I'm a goth myself, I had to "tone it down" at work, and I hated it! I got away with as much as I could appearance wise. I've had a passenger throw their steel cap boots at me screaming. .."do I look like a fucking terrorist? " which I replied. .."if I knew what a terrorist looked like I'd be out of a job". And it's as simple as that!

I mean you have of course those crazy racist nationalists who want "France for French people" (that's literally their motto, I'm not kidding), but everyone else despise them, even people in the far right. However if you look like you come from the "cité" (French equivalent for the ghetto, but with a predominantly Arabic population), then you will probably get judged quite unfairly, even though sometimes it is deserved if you act rudely/uncivilisedly in the street. (I realise you are probably French too, I just wrote all these explanations in case other people read this comment).

CaityGorey yeah...I killed a part of me when I entered the work world... it's hard. and now that I can't work anymore I have a struggle inside...got used to the black jeans and t shirt. but I miss the black glam... then, when I feel the need for black glam I struggle with the need of matching with all I learned to like and I feel like a mess! society breaks people up. it's not the fear of rejection no more, I don't have to look formal no more...but they broke the pre- established me into so many mes to cope with the society's expectations that even though I have a goth philosophy, I don't know how to be myself outside.
