Also, you could check into flow restrictors for the P/S pump. Installed in the high pressure line side of course. I believe they are called needle valves. They are commonly used in log splitters to slow the speed of log table lifts, and 4-way wedge adjustment. They are plumbed in line to those so the main cylinder can operate at full PSI. Hope this helps.

Hi I have been around semis some , on the air compressor there is a governing valve. So to keep it simple, when the system pressure reaches maximum ( usually about 125 psi ) the value switches and closes off the system and opens up the bypass so that the pressure feeds back into the suction creating a static condition ( the compressor is still turning/pistons still going up&down ) Hopefully this explanation helps. Thanks for sharing another great video.

Air compressor output pressure regulated...minimum turn on/maximum turn off...by a compressor mounted governor (Bendix D2 adjustable and preset at 125# output). Pop-off valve (ST4 non-adjustable 150#) is safety valve on air tank in case governor fails. Stainless braid covered teflon tubing off of compressor to dissipate heat, eliminate vibration, and then Synflex air brake tubing to tank. DOT push-in fittings are easy and reusable. Manual cable-operated water drain valve on tank. "Hot" compressed air make water in tank (same as shop compressor). Optional filter and regulator at tank output for dry air to tires, air tools, etc.

I love it! Just sitting here contemplating a dt466 swap in a 02 dodge. My engine is from a juice break truck so no compressor. Which brings me to my thoughts on "big rig" air compressors for on board air systems. They are designed to be used consistently. They kick off via the governor when the signal line from the air dryer is charged indicating governored air pressure is met. I don't believe that one of these would be too happy consistently running but doing nothing as it would in an on board air type use. Some food for thought. Keep up the good work!

Nice build! There has been a couple of OBS Fords with a DT swapped in. Great engines. I have an electronic version which is a little less reliable but still purrs like a tiger. I may be purchasing a P-pumped version in the near future with an Eaton 7spd. Little easier of a swap in an older F650 though. Keep up the great work!

That is a big project! I don’t think most of the viewers realize how big the DT466 is compared to other diesels. Maybe you should show the viewers the difference in sizes. Other engines that were used in a 6.0 swap: 5.9 Cummins, Cat 3126, and DT360.

The DT466 is rather large. I have a difficult time getting to the rear injectors on an International 4600 dump truck, and that's a large amount of room.

Hey bud cool project. Lemme know if you want my email I’m a heavy equipment mechanic and do a lot of trucks too. On top of that air compressor you will notice an aluminum cylinder with a black plastic cap on it. That’s the governor. It regulates the pressure the compressor cuts in and out at. It will have a port for a signal line going to your tank. It has another port for signal to air dryer purge which you may or may not decide to use. I have a ton of Bendix books on all of that stuff in PDF format so just let me know and I can shoot them over to you!

We considered using the factory VGT but wanted to keep it simple on that end. I plan to keep the Vgt wiring in tact just in case we decide to go that route. The exhaust housing is a bit restrictive on the factory 6.0 turbo though.

This truck has been on the back burner for a looooong time but we plan to get back to it soon. Believe it or not the valve cover is pretty close to being able to come off. After final fitment of everything we are likely going to clearance the firewall so it can be serviced. Worst case scenario if we did nothing the cab would only have to come up an inch to get it off.

The engine only weighs about 400lbs more than a 6.0. We will be adding heavy duty springs from HDtrucksprings.com but realistically its less weight than a plow which weighs over 1000lbs and hangs over the nose of the truck. The weight is not really an issue.

You may need to run a secondary cooling system for your intercooler, the engine coolant will be around 200 degrees which won't cool your charge air very much, you may have addressed this and if you did, ignore me!
@InTheShop
@InTheShop 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. We are using a separate heat exchanger, coolant tank, and electric intercooler pump very similar to a 03-04 mustang cobra or other vehicles with air/water intercooling. Thank you for bringing it up though. I’ll be doing a whole video that will go more into the specifics of the cooling system as we get further along.

Don't they make a flow regulator with a return line port to use on your stock power steering pump? You might try this: www.lsxmag.com/news/vari-flow-adjustable-flow-valve/
@InTheShop
@InTheShop 3 жыл бұрын
They do and that’s what we will resort to if we can’t find a properly sized pump. The problem with that is you need to be really cautiously of fluid temps. When you are over pumping and returning fluid it can cause heat issues.
