Cody I think it’s great that you’re sharing this side of your life. Endurance training is one of the most difficult things you can put yourself through. Staying self-motivated for such a long time can seem impossible, and enjoying the little things every day is what keeps me going. Being a college cross country runner has taught me so much and I can guarantee you that you will learn so much as well.

Unsolicited tips for shin splints from a runner! Putting your lower legs into a bucket of ice water after running helps with the inflammation a lot, as does acupuncture/dry needling. Also adding in some trail and grass running instead of road helps with impact and you can keep training. To address the cause of shin splints, are you doing any strength training/core stability? Shin splints can mean that your glutes and core are not working properly so your lower legs are taking the brunt of the work. Consistent Pilates helps heaps to improve this, if you don't have the energy/time to add proper squats etc. into your routine :) Good luck!!!

Hate to be an armchair coach, but usually if I'm getting injured AND the motivation isn't there it means I'm overtraining and need to take a week or two of lower volume/intensity to recover before really overcooking myself. Always helpful to take a step back and analyze overall training trends to see why you feel the way you do during the sessions. Notice how I said hate to be an armchair coach and did it anyway. I actually didn't hate it at all it was pretty sick

This channel is fr so inspiring and has helped me start on my own fitness journey. I have an autoimmune disorder that causes muscle weakness and chronic pain. I know that regular exercise eases the symptoms, but it can be so hard to wrap my mind around the fact that I have to get through the aggravation pain of starting an exercise routine to get to a point where I don't have daily pain. I'm still only beginning - only working with 3lb weights at like 3 sets of 5 reps. I don't have a lot of mobility and it's really challenging. Your cody trains videos have really helped me keep the motivation & determination to push though for myself. Thank you for this & keep up the good work !

Hey Cody, these videos are so great to watch, thank you for making them, even on your bad days! As a long time sufferer of shin splints, here’s a few tips you may find useful. Firstly, don’t try and push through it; you may feel guilty for skipping a few days, but it’s better to skip and recover than to make it worse and be forced to skip even more. You can always do some other exercises in the meantime, like a swim or a cycle, something less load bearing. I saw in another video the other day you said how sleep is the most important thing, 100% agree, but so is rest and recovery. Never feel bad for taking it easy to let your body recover properly. Another thing that works for me is to run with my compression socks on. I know they’re meant to be worn afterwards to help with recovery, but wearing them during the run helps keep my shin muscles in place so my tendons don’t get as inflamed with all the impacts. I do look kinda dumb with these big socks on, but I’d rather look dumb than have shin splints. Also wearing the right shoes helps; I like to run on trails as opposed to roads as it’s a softer impact on the dirt, so I wear trail shoes. For the more longer term solutions, shin, calf, and knee strength training exercises are where it’s at. I use a resistance band and a step to do calf/shin raises, also knee squats. Shin exercises are so underrated, the difference is noticeable after like a week of daily exercises, just 20/30 shin raises a couple of times a day whenever you have a spare 5 minutes is all you need. Overall, strength training in general helps so much your cardio exercises, it’d be great to see you incorporate some strength training into your routines. Also stretching and yoga are criminally underrated, I guess not really though because everyone knows how good it is for you, but it can be quite boring compared to other exercises so nobody does it. Stretching is painful too, especially if you’re like me and you need to floss your nerves as well as stretch your muscles. Again though, the difference it makes to your running is very noticeable once you start seeing some initial flexibility improvements, much quicker recovery time and less injuries overall. Anyway, I typed this out during the video after seeing you had shin splints at the start, and you seemed to recover just fine lol. Keep doing what you’re doing man, awesome series, can’t wait to see how far you take it!

I know this channel is about training for the iron man and what there is to do and prepare for but cody has gave me motivation to go back in the gym 3 to 4 times a week, and RUN. I never would think about going on runs until watching cody do all of this insane exercising. thank u for giving people the motivation and content!

at this point it goes without saying that these vids have been amazing content and i’m so happy you're getting a lot of love. but what I have also deeply enjoyed is the editing bc that shit got me giggling. it really brings out your humor in the best way

Hey Cody I’m running a 10k in December for the first time and it’s great to see someone struggling too but keep going. Obviously what you’re doing is harder but you’ve been very inspiring. Keep it up!
