Buying from locals vs large stores in the Philippines will make a difference for the local community. This is something I take seriously and do as much as possible.

So glad your foot is better. i love the simplicity of the furniture. Your style is similar to that of my son. Everything seems to have a place and a significant purpose. Your designs are well thought out and intentional. I was watching another video where a person was buying local at the market and gave a big tip. People thought he was rich. Next thing you know, his place got broken into. I like the fact that you are also safe and secure about things. Speedy recovery on your foot.

Cheapest local metal fabrication/welding is $60+ an hr. (minimum) here in my area (NC, usa). And that's IF you can find a shop that would take on small jobs like that. Most don't want to 'waste' their time with small pieces, unless they are gonna be enough to warrant 4 hrs minimum ($240+) I say this from experience, as I taught myself to weld because I was tired of paying $60-200 every time I needed a tractor implement repaired or a metal gate repaired. Awesome video and Thank you for sharing!🙏

It makes me happy to buy from an individual also. You have craftsmen there that we don’t have here so much in the USA and if we find someone they charge as much or more then the big box stores. You have a quality product that will last for many years and you helped to take care of a family.all this for Avery low price. Working with the people from the community makes you all winners. Yeah!!!

Thank you and I completely agree with you. Finding something like this a charge is a realistic price for welding is fantastic. In the states having custom welding done would cost twice the price is buying it from the store.

It is admirable you want to buy local to keep the money flow local where the local families benefit. But this time I’m going to provoke a thought just for the sake of it. Because we may not be as admirable as we like to think we are. I’m guilty as well. Let’s say the table is sold by big chain for 80 USD and the local builds it for 8 USD, an equivalent of the amount of hours he worked on and giving himself an hourly rate most Filipinos earn. That’s where things go wrong really. They are calculating themselves poor due to poor basic economic insights. And we happily say yes to that, thinking we are helping them with work. Thing is, these Filipinos are not on our payroll. So when we don’t have anything for them next day, the Filipino earns nothing unless someone else requires there service. A risk that any other Filipino who is on a payroll has no concerns about. That’s a concern his boss will be dealing with. If that Filipino is charging 8 USD because he spend 8 hours working for 1 USD per hour, we should not exploit him but correct him voluntarily that he should charge more so that he can actually earn. To not go into debt when he has a day or two without clients. To save up and expand. To be able to replace his equipment whenever needed. Giving a guy the materials to work with and pay him for the hours he has been working on, is still not enough and not so admirable as it looks like. If they don’t ask more, then let us actually be a good person and teach them why they should charge more and not spend it all at once. Sure, it’s easy for us to say yes, deal. And be happy about the cheaper price. In my opinion he should have charged atleast 1500 pesos per 8 hours working day. That’s apx 27 USD. I would tell him he should keep 1.000 peso aside for the day he has no work or whenever he needs to replace working equipments/tools. Still not 80 USD to a big chain but actually helping someone who is not calculating himself poor.

Indeed, they aren’t on a payroll. They have tools and equipment that will need to be replaced at some point. They also have to cover the missed income if they are momentarily out of work. They carry their risk themselves. Those Filipinos calculate themselves poor and we neglect to correct them and teach them why their hourly rate should be higher then any other Filipino working on a payroll.

Glad to see you loving your life here Cory :) I just saw a vlog yesterday about expats living in and leaving PH. I didn't really watch the vlog anymore but got to reading the comments. Sadly, there were a lot of comments there from those who lived here but didn't work out for them that were very hurtful to read. And i'd say very tasteless too. First of all, nobody asked them to live here. It was their own choice. Why have to badmouth our people and culture just because they didn't like it? There's one in particular who keeps replying to others' comments saying so many bad stuff about us, blaming us for ruining his life and even criticizing our physical appearance. That guy def. needs some therapy. I'm sure he'll end up hating any country he lives in even though he's saying so and so country is better than PH. I mean if they don't like it here, fine. Just leave. No need to criticize and bad-mouth the country and people as if their country and people are perfect. And what they don't seem to be aware of is that they themselves are exhibiting bad behavior by incessantly badmouthing PH just because it didn't meet their expectations. Like it's the country that has to adopt to them and not the other way around. Crazy. Anyway, i'm sure this is just a small percentage. Coz i've also seen a number of expats like you who are happy that they moved here. Thanks again for promoting our country :)

Employing, hiring locals helps them, puts food on their table, it also is very environmentally correct, think about the gas that was saved if it had to come from some other island or China, just this morning I was watching GMA News ,the farmers are complaining about the rice prices,it costs them more to than the price in the grocery store. Farmers there are selling their farms. The same happened 8-10 years ago in Ontario Canada,Peach fruit farms and canning companies closed because they could not with canned peaches from Georgia.Hope your foot is well now.
