I disagree. Perfectionism is a toxic mindset, not a healthy one, and it shouldn't be encouraged, not for the TTT team, nor for the viewers.
@Sturmensky7 ай бұрын
I don't think it's about perfectionism as much as taking time to really show off one's skill. When you're doing videos with TTT's frequency, it's inevitable that there are times speed/expedience will trump painting to one's full ability or fully enjoying the process - possibly a lot of the time. So taking the extra time to use one's full skillset isn't toxic nor perfectionistic. Put another way: it's one thing for me to take my time and all my knowledge to paint a mini (using my fancy technical paints, sponges, etc. blending to the point I know I can). It's another to obsess over every little flaw (e.g., repeatedly redoing said blends, or even stripping the model, over a minor imperfection or two)@@ErebosGR
@ErebosGR7 ай бұрын
@@Sturmensky You clearly don't understand the creative process. Ask any artist and they'll tell you "A work of art is never complete; only abandoned." Musicians, especially, know this very, very well. First you say "painting to one's full ability" or "using one's full skillset", but then you say that mistakes are allowed So they're not painting to their full ability. That's why "challenges" like that are a toxic slippery slope. A mini can take 1 hour, 10, 100 or 1000 hours to paint. It's never complete. Knowing when to stop, so they can put out 2-3 videos per week is healthy. Painting a mini for months, like Golden Demon competitors do, is not healthy.

I’ve always appreciated your honesty very much. I’m continually proud of you, and the channel for making such strong connections and making the impressions that you have with your work - but being transparent about the struggles, and genuine complaints about the hobby is something I trust you so much to deliver. You aren’t trying to sell us these massive products at an extreme price range - you’re selling us someone to sit with at the painting table and to hang out with. Your personality and charisma is something that makes TTT stand out so much. The quality of the model is surprising - and I wouldn’t believe you if you hadn’t mentioned otherwise. I am constantly shocked that Forgeworld kits, the most expensive things GW sells going into the high hundreds to thousands of dollars, are also the worst packaged, routinely come broken, warped, and missing parts, and take hours of prep time to get them in a state you can assemble. Yet somehow they've convinced a significant subset of their audience, that this is a sign of how "advanced" you are.

It works both ways. The reason they now send stuff to creators at the last minute is because some youtubers where leaking the content early before release. Especially with models that I really care about, I find myself drained up in all the work I put myself up to just because I was hyped about it and really wanted to give it the perfection it deserves, and as a consequence I drain 300% of my available energy over days or weeks, and in the end instead of appreceation it always feels like a chore, and a battle I am happy to find the way out of.

Part of the issue is how the parts are made in comparison to gunpla. Gunpla is a super high quality injection mold where as forge world uses resin 3d printers. The quality of each is vastly different purely for how they have to be attached to a rail system. That being said the packaging absolutely could have been better. Maybe slotted into molded cardboard them put into a better designed box.

I’ve changed a couple years ago to painting Gundam Kits. The complexity, quality of the plastic and technical designs is just amazing. Building the high detailed ‘Real Grades’ and the (post 2011) ‘Master Grades’ are just amazing to build, they are complex yet designed so well that building is fun and satisfying. The plastic quality and the assembly proces is just miles ahead of what you get from GW, for just fraction of the price. I recently started a Warhammer project again and the price I had to spend on the miniatures left a nasty aftertaste. I hope GW will step up their game as i can not escape the feeling I got ripped off, and this really takes away from the pleasure of the hobby experience.

I bought 2 Tau Tigersharks with the heavy railguns a long time ago. Not only were the main guns warped, they were broken in a way that made it impossible to put together and not have it look janky (resin shards and splinters in so many places you couldn't hide the brakes). The burst cannons were warped (each has 4 tiny barrels that if they aren't perfectly aligned with each other they look obviously messed up). Even the main body of one of the models was deformed in a way that I had to excavate a large portion of sculpted resin just to fit the railgun in its slot before resculpting the part I had to destroy. I knew I'd have to do a bit of advanced modeling, but destroying large chunks of a vehicle just to fit it together was kind of stupid. I do resin 3d printing, so I know how hard it is to get the resin to cure and have decent dimensional accuracy, but they're using resin molds that are, in theory, always dimensionally correct. These beautiful models were so poorly made that I never got to use them in a game and was never able to get them to a state where I felt proud to show them off. I spent nearly 2 months trying to repair the damage, and reached the point of no longer giving a shit. That experience permanently soured my view of FW to the point where I didn't trust them enough ever but another of their models.

One of the big questions I get asked in my painting adventure is "Why don't I receive commissions?". This is the answer. In between just a regular job and painting the hobby for me, the freedom I have and not putting a ton of deadlines onto it, keeps me coming back to the hobby. I don't even play the game anymore, I'm just really enthralled with painting the models and coming up with new techniques with all the paints that are out there and new color schemes(about all the time I have for it these days). You did a tremendous job on cleaning up the model. I've only heard stories of the rumored Forge world kits and after the initial excitement, you can really go off the deep end in how to execute how you'll construct and paint and that really wears you down. Also glad to hear another happy Scale 75 user out there. I love their paints. The best thing you can do is diversify and find which works best so not being entrenched in Games workshop colors is refreshing. Cheers, glad to see the prince of perfection demanded so much in return. Looks really fantastic. I miss the old days when I could paint nonstop into the wee hours of the morning. Keep on keeping on.
