Here is a random selection of 'Oracle' teletext pages, saying goodbye on December 31st 1992. :-(

One memory that always sticks in my mind was the relaxing classical background music alongside checking the news and what's on later that day. And if you were sick and off school made it all the more magical.

There was something so pleasing about the way all that text was formatted. It somehow seemed more exciting than boring old fish n chip newspaper. :) RIP ORACLE.

3:16. At the end of the slide it says, "00.00 The End of Oracle, Now the Nightmare Begins!". They must have really been bitter about their loss.

I'm amazed oracle or teletext didnt become a website. Surely it would work incredibly well with even better technology.

Remember your cold cold stereo telly with wooden surround? We sure do! But getting that first remote control colour telly with texting facility was so exciting back in the day. A precursor to the internet. We use to hang a piece of cardboard in front of the monophonic speaker and way it around pretending we were getting the broadcasts in stereo sound years before stereo broadcasting was to become available in the guise of Nicam Digital stereo!

Well all the tellies of old used to have that black heavy surrounding the picture/screen itself then from what I remember so too. I know the one we had here then did so too. Also it had push buttons which you had to press for the channels so too. I think we had our first set with remote control in the Autumn of 1983 then at the time. The set we had was a ITT one which showed as BBC1; BBC2; ITV1; ITV2; and a spare channel then I am sure. It did not say Channel 4 though then either. Thank you!

i bought a text type tv in 1990 just to read the music pages on channel 4. oracle had a good set up. i felt really cheated when teletext took over in 1993 it took that company nearly 5 years before they came close to replacing oracle.

Teletext should have had their license revoked, or at least a heavy fine, for the way they launched. The service was riddled with severe bugs and glitches which made it unusable for the first few days, if not weeks. I came to like Teletext, but it was only a direct copy of the way Oracle ran the show. The franchise wasn't going to be renewed at all originally. Amazingly, the ITC were just going to let ITV text services disappear. Oracle campaigned at government level to keep teletext services alive. They won the campaign, but lost their license to a higher bidder.

I saw the dates of operation, but it wasn’t til i saw 1:41 that i realized they had been here through all those horrible disasters. And if that’s just Oracle, well, imagine what Ceefax saw...

Don't be ashamed. You're not alone when it come to watching KZfaq videos showing Telly from years back. I have watched TV adverts from years back from the 1980s. It brings back good memories!

In which the beginning of the final pages of Oracle, what's the name of the name of the artist who played "And I Love Her" by The Beatles?

Teletext alas was not really as good as replacement as Oracle had been before it so too. It was another decision that the then ITC had taken as well as replacing some of the then ITV companies as they did so too. Also Teletext was the generic name for the service, including Ceefax too on the BBC of course. Personally I stuck with Ceefax really by then anyway! Thank you of course.

I'm guessing this capture was taken on a non-FASTEXT TV due to the lack of Coloured Text Shortcuts at the bottom.

I'm not so sure Oracle news service was more trusted than newspapers I'm not saying that agree or disagree but when Teletext took over the news became an untrusted service

Oracle was much different than teletext. They were a lot more impartial back before Teletext.
