Jamie is knackered. The builder sits slumped on his sofa, in his one bedroom flat in Bridgend, having finished a hard day on the tools.
It's 7pm. The 35-year-old looks mentally as well physically exhausted, but his working day is not yet done.
Having just spent nine hours driving forklift trucks and wagons, Jamie will soon leave for his second shift as a cleaner at a local office block.
"Bills, food, petrol, clothes, school trips, school uniform - everything has just skyrocketed," the father-of-one tells me.
"It just led me to have to permanently have a second job just so the money that I make will cover the bills, and then I've got a bit of cash.
"It's just, you can work all the hours you want, but it's just not enough. So the second income was sort of a needs must."

Sadly it was what was called for by certain groups. Once the workforce was doubled the cost of housing was only ever going to increase. The woman wanting to stay home and look after her children has great instincts. It doesn’t make sense to out source raising your children. I know for some it isn’t possible but child care costs vs wages are numbers that need to be crunched. She could possibly bring in some money from home that flexible around children with so a fair amount of remote work these days.

I just saw a viral video of a lady caught on surveillance in a thrift store finding a bag of money and she kept it instead of turning it in and they tried to villainize that woman. In THIS economy. People were brutal, saying how they hate thieves and she should've turned it in and been honest. In an economy that is currently pushing people to do things they wouldn't ordinarily do. Smh. In my opinion, more shame is due to them than her. Whoever left that bag of money sitting there either was trying to set someone up for embarrassment or they didn't need the money as bad as the person who found it.

Cost of living is real and it's a global situation every one is talking about without giving a right solution on how to savaged through this situation, i have sat down and think. In the same environment where we have people doing two jobs but still struggling to make a living there are still people living successful financial life, that's why In these uncertain times, it's more important than ever to have a solid understanding of how to manage your finances because even the bank is insured, invest wisely and navigate economic downturns, investing with the little you have can give you a future you don't need to work again. And before you say that you need to spend every penny 'to put food on the table' then some people with never have any level of wealth no matter how much they earn as they will always spend every penny they earn. @clareholgate8718 Same in Canada. It started in our biggest, most populated cities a while ago, but has spread since covid. We're in a bind, as most of the jobs and services (especially access to a regular doctor) are in our few big cities, so for those who need routine/regular medical care it would be a pretty big risk to move to a lower-cost part of the country. Even then - the cost of food here has become obscene, as our grocery industry is an ologopoly of a few big chains.

When life is work, but work is not enough to live, then people refuse to work. That’s the biggest cause of unemployment. You can’t blame them. They are not ‘lazy’. The whole thing is systemically flawed. As soon as it said he ‘rents’ a 1 bedroomed flat, I knew he was in high water. The government needs to cap these high rent rates. If he was paying less rent, he could just work one job and have precious family time. You should work to live, not live to work.

The reason why we initially got out of victorian times was because of new inventions which increased the productivity of labor. For example, this man was moving stuff that weighed thousands of pounds by himself just using a forklift. It would of taken much longer and many more men for people to do the same in victorian times if they could it at all. Why things are regressing is because the money we are earning is worth less. It's inflation caused by central banks. Say no to Central banks. They are robbing us blind and destroying our futures, and few can see it.

He is doing what he has to do, like others but this is exactly what those who aren't working as hard as him want him to do... not complaining, then they can carry on living better and better. If you think it will get better you are deeply mistaken! We are not in a crisis like ant other before. For the first time, this is a production crisis. We reach the limit! But our bosses (I'm not talking about our local garage boss, but the huge billionaires) keep maintaining their lifestyle. After each crisis those last two decades, things were supposed to be better. 2008, banks would be reformed and things would get better. Banks never more freedom than today! After covid, we were supposed to have a better quality of life as we realised that a worker with a food family life balance is more productive. Things are getting worse. So by the time I sit down to my tea (the meal) it's usually 7.30pm. Then by 10pm it's back to bed to get just over five hours sleep so I can get up the next day to repeat the process. I work a rota system that is a mix of days and nights which runs 24/7 365 days oer year so often I have to work this kind of routine even on Christmas day, New year's day and bank holidays. War profiteering energy companies,943%profit ,government backed by giving tax money to everybody to pay the energy companies!!!!instead of telling energy companies blatent greed won't be tolerated !!if every business, home ,anything which uses electric,or gas, has suffered by the greed and war profiteering, if only 300% profit was made, would that have reflected on inflation and cost of living we have now!!!???

Both Labour and Conservatives will do nothing to help either, time for the people to take the power back, living standards aren’t good enough and everything is too expensive

Jamie is in this position because he is a hard working, tax paying citizen. If he was an illegal immigrant he would have it easier....

So how are all those illegal migrants surviving? Answer: free accommodation, free food, free medical. That's what these broken wages are doing: paying to keep this going.

Always has been. It's just the pandemic that accelerates the process and now we see the result more clearly.

@@meep-4272 Sadly you are right. The rental prices doubled after the lockdowns because everyone wanted more space and suddenly office workers were forced to work from home. Let's not even mention the food prices that went up from the crazy panic buying and supply chain issues!

@@myday2704 Yeah, it's horrible. Inflation and the political situation of russia-ukraine and recently israel-palestine make the overall situation even worse. The cost of living keeps increasing every year, while the minimum wage doesn't change like that.

You starting to get what us conspiracy theorists have been saying for years?
@northwestcoast
@northwestcoast Ай бұрын
@@rb1062It’s no conspiracy to say that wealth accumulates at the top. Without a focus on wealth tax where that unearned wealth at the top is redistributed, and low to middle income is taxed lightly or not at all, what we see in this video is the result. The wealthy like to drive the narrative that it’s those with less than you that are the problem; immigrants and those on benefits in particular, but in reality it’s those who take much more than their fair share that create poverty in the rest of society.
@rb1062
@rb1062 Ай бұрын
@@northwestcoast You need to look a little deeper into WHO is driving the narratives which are dividing us all. Look at mainstream and social media to see how we are all fighting each other like cat and dog over ideology, immigration etc. All planned and created by the global corporations who are transferring to themselves wealth from us all. And it's working splendidly for them. Mass migration creates wealth for them, not us. You, sadly, are speaking their narrative and complying. You just won't realise until it's too late.
