I honestly don't know what people expect from ITZY. OK Sneakers may not have been everyone's cup of tea, but the b-sides on that album were fire, and are people really saying Crazy in Love and Swipe were on a downward trajectory??? Absurd. I loved this. Yes it's a more mature sound but it's still ITZY.

ITZY definitely did not disappoint

You are not tripping because JYPE groups concept on MVs are pretty much related. It all started with NMIXX O.O, the concept of having two worlds and two sides. They gave an easter egg of Doughnut from Twice's Japanese song that means something good can be bad. Then Straykids relased Maniac at first it seems different but it showed buildings similar with O.O and having two sides - the good and the bad. It showed trains and strings and they cut the strings which they dont want to be controlled. Then Xdinary released Test Me that explains more the concept of villains and heroes and was shoot inside the train. Then Itzy's Sneakers showing chess pieces which they don't want to play by the rules. They already said by the lyrics in Sneakers the best is yet to come and its okay to call them weirdo, crazy and all cause they can make it trough. Then a backlash from people and hatred for ITZY due to the song which they expected. They knew people will hate it and it is a goodbye to their old self. The concept for Checkmate was elegant and fooled everybody with the MV. It told us they just played us. Then Twice's Talk and Talk came showing teddy bears and cats. Nayeon threw a heart arrow to the teddy bear and pulled out a disc from it which Chearyoung and Tzuyu studied. Nayeon again threw something at the cat giving us the idea it was the enemy. Then NMIXX came with Dice. Had a game in Twitter and said they have enemy and must be wary of it. The concept was Alice in the wonderland and showed chesire. They played chess but was circular which ITZY foreshadowed in Sneakers. Nmixx were scared with the cats. Nmixx showed circus which is all about performance or everything is just their show that they planned. Then Straykids Case 143 came it had the teddybear with antenna of heart on its head similar with the arrow Nayeon threw in Talk that Talk. They elaborated the case in the disc which Twice studied in Talk that Talk. Then Xdinary Heroes released haircut which has Circus concept and said they need haircut to change. It keeps on saying there is change. The last part said the police report was reviewed. It might be pertaining to straykids case and Twice's story or reminded us they are reviewing the audience response but still will play their game. Then Itzy's chesire came completely different than the normal itzy but has the angst of itzy. JYPE prepared us, they want to change ITZY but they couldn't do that right away so they gave us bad songs and make us anticipate and become eager to the darker ITZY. Their songs did changed since NOT SHY it started to talk about love and they tested us with Sneakers who has same vibes with ICY and it was all a plan cause CHESIRE is well received and has the highest ITZY first day sales. JYPE made sure ITZY Chesire will be on MAMA and will show everyone that they are still the queens. Their MAMA performance "BIRTH OF A QUEEN" says this a lot. Everyone thought that NMIXX is the best JYPE groups for they are well rounded and their enemy would never be other GGs but its ITZY. ITZY will try to be the queen of GGs in 4th Gen that NMIXX is trying to snatch. Itzy is the enemy NMIXX is pertaining, the mission of Twice in TTT and Straykids foreshadowing and the case they tried solving. But it also means that there will be changes in Straykids, NMIXX and Xdinary Heroes. Nmixx already released their other concept their new frontier and it was filmed before the release of O.O but was released before the Funky Glitter Christmas. What I like about JYPE is they plan ahead so basically the JYPE groups is 2023 were planned already. Their concept and everything will be related and I think it will be Twice and NMIXX that will show changes in their music and style. OK I AM HIGH LOL HAHHAHAHAHHAHAH

For me. It's not a downfall of them. It's just that every era of them have difficulty achievements. And people are saying that they fall because their expected achievement of that song is difficulty from what they want.GUESS WHO Top YT and Spotify the chart is Good too. CIL gets 5 #1's in billboard as well as good in charts, Checkmate sales and Charts are so good that even now is still charting in BB and in Digital charts they even become million seller. So how are them falling?

ITZY has always been open that they are gonna try new sounds and concepts. For those of us that are quite open with our music and what we listen to, and if you happen to be a Midzy too, you end up really enjoying everything they come out with. Let's not forget no matter if you love or hate the songs, their stage performances are amazing.

I wouldn't call it "downfall", ITZY has consistently released good music and In South Korea they are VERY POPULAR as well as internationally. Netizens are exaggerating this, Sneakers charted VERY WELL in Korea, and I personally think that they released it with the Korean GP as the target and not the international fans. MITM and LOCO have made many accomplishments internationally, winning them awards and charting on Billboard.

Okay, here's my take. NO soloist, group or band, whether in music or theater or whatever, can ALWAYS out-do themselves. ITZY started off by setting the bar REALLY HIGH, with a GREAT debut. How can groups CONSTANTLY top themselves on a regular basis after something like that? Well, they DID it, a few times. They kept improving, their crew kept improving, their entire production team kept improving. That is what we got used to seeing from them, constant improvement, constantly upping the game. But eventually they would hit the top of a 'plateau'; it had to happen sooner or later and it likely will happen to them again at some point. EVERY soloist or group has this happen to them at least once and the longer they are around, the higher the chances it would happen more than just once. The level of quality of ITZY's production never actually DROPPED, it just sort of stagnated and did not SKYROCKET past what they had already done, like what we were used to seeing from them. It's not BAD, it just hit a snag and slowed their ascent a little bit. That's all. They needed a breather, and some time to come up with new creative stuff. Meanwhile, their 'plateau' songs are FUN. I compare it to Red Velvet's different sides; ITZY started off with the 'Velvet', the hard-hitting stuff as if they were already all grown up. Their lighter stuff, their 'Red' side, is what happened when they reached their plateau. Doesn't anybody remember what FUN is anymore? Why can't people just sit back and enjoy the entertainment? Why so damned judgmental of these awesome ladies? Why only judgmental of the ladies but NOT the entire company? And now we have this song and MV, a complete and total BANGER that does not simply HIT hard, but it STOMPS. I love it.

my opinion is that MANY people forgot what ITZY's sound is and what they stand for as a group. some fans started stanning itzy bc of wannabe or mafia in the morning but that's not all of the ITZY's sound! if you don't enjoy fun and bright songs like dalla dalla, icy or not shy, which itzy was literally known for, then itzy sound isn't for you. don't put a whole group in a box bc of two songs and expect them to keep doing them, itzy won't give you that

Both Case 143 and Cheshire's chorus have a cyberpunky/mid-90s industrial/Nine Inch Nails sort of sound to them and they're both the exact same tempo. That's probably why they remind you of each other.

For me the point with itzy's latest releases really has a lot to do with the way JYPE started to handle the group. With Sneackers the promotion started presenting a completely different concept for the album in relation to the title song, the breach of expectations and which were built and broken in a row was the main mistake. The feeling that the concept didn't suit the members maybe intensified in Boys like you, maybe the company is trying to find a new glow for the group but the way the public reacts to consumption ends up being shocked and feeling something missing. The kpop industry moves fast and ups and downs are normal, but when you're down it can be dangerous, changes in concepts and visuals can put you up or down and for me, Itzy is in the middle of the way, not much in the way top much less down, as if the group were looking for a new place for themselves. Btw, this comeback is my favorite from them this year, i think it really delivered what it promised and made me curious what they will do in the future

There were no downfalls. They are ITZY being artists and exploring different discographies. That is how it works in the music industry. ITZY beginning Dalla Dalla era up to this comeback is ITZY as a part of their growth. The monster rookies that they were on February 12, 2022 is still the monster group that they are today, people just don't appreciate it nowadays because people is still living on that fantasy where they don't accept change and discovery of new genres exist. ITZY IS DIFFERENT.

I do not believe they had a downfall in their music career. Yeah, Loco and a Sneakers were no the favorites of many international fans, but they did charted pretty well in Korea and for JYPe that's pretty much what matters. People tend to forget that music is about personal taste, and that being a fans doesn't mean that you have to love every single song of your favorite band/group/idol

I don’t know what you mean by downward trend since MitM. Since then we got Loco, Swipe, Voltage, Blah Blah Blah, Sneakers, Domino, Boys like you, Cheshire, Snowy. All are great songs really. Their A-side is broadening their target demographic and their B-Side don’t disappoint. And their choreography never misses.

I don't think there's a downfall in ITZY's music at all because everyone as their own taste. And I personally loved LOCO, which was HEAVILY disliked. It's still my favorite title track of theirs. I didn't like Sneakers but I really like Cheshire so it just really depends on the song. I get what JYPE is trying to do with ITZY's sound and I don't blame them for that. Actually, some of my favorite ITZY's b-sides are from their latest albums even ! But I do think that they're not doing it completely right. I find NMIXX and ITZY (especially their older sound) a bit to similar in terms of music and I kinda wished they had another concept for NMIXX and just gave a "Itzyfied" version of their conceptual songs to ITZY. But now that we are in this situation, I would like JYPE to give ITZY a typical ITZY song (kind of a mix between DALLA DALLA and WANNABE) as a title track for a best-off that would include all their title tracks and most iconic b-sides and that they would heavily promote it , even in the west. Maybe an english pre-release featuring a western artist the girls like would be a good idea as well ! And after, a japanese version of the best off that would include the same songs (except the newest title track) plus ITZY's japanese tracks and a new japanese title track in their "japanese type of sound". Finally, ending that with a bigger world tour would be one hell of an era I think. JYPE, hire me 😂 But even without that, I think JYPE should just step up their game in terms of promotions but I still love ITZY and their sound. Im okay with people not liking itzy's latest songs. Everyone has their own taste. What i don't like is that hating itzy is kind of a trend ever since MITM era. The amount of comments "^insert any 4th gen gg name^ is better than itzy" is unhealthy. Also Yuna's getting so much criticism every day its crazy!

So many people disliked loco when it came out but when sneakers came out everyone suddenly praised loco to heavens. Sneakers maybe wasn't their best song but people acted like it was something WAY out of the ordinary for itzy just bc they expected smth different when the song itself still sounded very much like itzy. I think people just have way too high expectations of them and also bc there's all these new popular 4th gen groups, but itzy was and probably will always be different than them and have a unique and changing music style. But people hate change and also the hype around them obviously died down a bit with all the new groups since there werent THAT many who debuted around their time with the same amount of success. And not to forget people love to jump on the bandwagon of stanning the newest shiniest group. It's happening now as well where suddenly people are hating on ive and started stanning newjeans. Also its just a matter of personal taste, while international fans bashed sneakers, it did VERY well on korean charts. And its a known fact korean gp & international fans sometimes have very different taste so its also a matter of who jyp caters to. I feel like ITZY has remained very consistent in that you never know what they're going to drop, and this has resulted in two camps: One camp where people love their more "experimental" sound, their melodies almost being more sound effects than actual melodies, and the other camp where they want the group "to grow up", and likes their more constrained sound. So when they're more constrained one side likes that, while the other side likes it when they're more wild. So you can see completely opposite reviews for most of their songs, some people absolutely hated Mafia In the Morning, while it's some people's favorite song from them (I'm in that second camp x), and the people who loved Mafia, didn't like Loco. To me, ITZY has always been somewhat Chaotic, and they're allowed to be more the "wild little sisters" to the very "elegant older sisters" in Twice. And I think they've really kept that sound and style going throughout their career. Sort of the F(x) to Twice's SNSD. Personally I think this song needs to grow on me, the melody they sing after the "why so serious" line sounds out of place to me, but I'm so glad that they've kept the "weird ish" sound, it's what makes them ITZY to me, so I'll definitely keep coming back. But maybe they should get a break after this promo? They've done a LOT now, and I don't want to see similar anxiety problems that Twice had, develop in ITZY just because they're not allowed to go on a break.

The mv concept and specially the mama performance really reminded me of “like a cat” by aoa, i love it.

I wouldn't say they had a musical downfall. But people in general and fans especially are often quiet allergic to change. Also the detective vibe you get about figuring ouf what's true or fake is propably refering to the deceptive nature of the Cheshire Cat from the Alice books. There are a lot of cat hints like the background items merge with Lia after the first camera pan or the three shadows on the ground after Yuna switched off the light. And the dance moves often suggest the wide grin of it. (Also the reference to Heathe Ledgers Joker "Why so serious" who has an equally deceiving nature and a wide grin due to his boston smile)

I don't personally think that itzy has fallen. Its just that the amount of hype they had when they debuted was massive since there weren't much 4th gen groups. But now if we see there are literally so many newly debuted groups gaining attention and releasing amazing songs . So itzy someway is having difficulty living up to their mark ig. They still do have good fanbase so i don't think they are falling.But they are not alone. I personally think Itzy has been unwavering in quality but they have tried many different styles and concepts especially from Not Shy onwards after departing that youthful, bright, embrace myself concept they had from Dalla Dalla to Icy. Not everything they tried was going to be everyone’s cup of tea and to be honest I think it’s okay to not appeal to everyone if they stick to their guns and deliver on performance which I personally think is arguably their greatest trait. Sneakers was controversial but I actually think now that Cheshire is out that the release of Sneakers was more intentional than we think. I think it was released to remind us of where they started and now with Cheshire, where they are at/where they are going. The contrast has a greater effect on our perception than say if they had released Mafia In the Morning and Cheshire back to back.

That clip you did of the two songs reminded me a bit of that song by MonstaX from last year where they mashed two songs together. Very well done.

Thank you for talking about the "downfall" in the beginning. I am tired of people hating on Itzy for all what they put. One music is objective some people didn't like MITM but a lot of people, me included, were obssessed with it. Plus I saw a lot of people saying that MITM and Loco were not songs for Itzy, but when Itzy released Wannabe people said that Itzy doesn't innove or try something new. And the hate Itzy got after the release of sneakers is unbelievable. Yes sneakers might not be to everyone's taste, might not be the best song but I definitely saw people calling Itzy's music a shitty music, it's so disrespectful, now people just want to hate on Itzy no matter what they put and now it's really too much of hate.

THE SONG IS SO GOOD

The mv setting is itzy in a game show where they have to figure out what fake and true hence they way they walked in at the beginning waving at everyone and the scene with all of them looking distressed over a buzzer. As well as how pieces of different sets started glitching out like the doll and the colored door room. By the end the entire game show set was glitching out. Notice how most of the glitches started happening when ryujin pressed the button on the screen of the computer to delete back ground. The first thing to go was the symbols on the Wall in the pink room after she clicked that button

IMO Itzy has not been on downward trajectory. Loco took some time for me, but I love it now. Sneakers wasnt my cup of tea, but I'd be lying if I said it wasnt stuck in my head for weeks after it released and I sang along to it at their concert. Their JP comeback was really great and I really enjoy this one too!

The M/V theme for "Case 143" can be seen as the "lovelys" that TWICE rescued in "BDZ" have evolved and wreck havoc. The Cheshire cat is also prevalent in NMIXX "Dice" M/V. I don't know if JYPE is doing that on purpose or if the M/V production company does it for some reason or it's just a coinsidence. As for ITZY having a "downfall". That's laughable to say the least. In general JYPE groups get critisims from people that just watch pretty faces dance and sing without having any understanding about art or business. To get some things clear. "Sneakers" was an add and also served as the clear red line between original Itzy and the "new" Itzy. JYP himself hinted that "Sneakers" is "just a song" (like the ones he can make while taking a No2) and what he was excited about was the next release which is this , marking the era for the new Itzy probably more mature style like TWICE had a twist in their 3year mark (And I'm saying 3 year because the actual turn was with "Yes or Yes" and "Fancy" solidified it). "Boys like you" was the only way Itzy would be able to get mainstream radio airtime in the US without loosing their vibe. The only options would be going all CardiB or Nicki Minaj style or the US staple "Disney like" family friendly vibe. Also people seem to have missed "Voltage" and "Blah Blah" for some reason. Or it might be the stuck up K-Pop fans that deem anything Korean superior (which is not) and just ignore Japanese releases.

I definitely can’t agree with people saying they’ve been going “downhill” since mafia. Sneakers was a weak title for me but loco was an absolute banger and so was the Japanese debut voltage. As for Cheshire it’s early but it’s probably gonna be a top 3 itzy title track for me. People are so quick to say someone’s fallen off just because they may have had a miss.

I think this is a bold statement for Itzy. A lot of fans and people have been saying that they have lost the Itzy sound or their concept. With Cheshire, i think its the perfect comeback after sneakers. It says a message that people don’t have to complicate everything, as Itzy will be Itzy no matter what the concept is (literally they still deliver🔥). Y’all don’t have to box Itzy to a certain concept as they say It’s All in Us. They can deliver no matter how bad the a song maybe. Let’s be honest they have a very unique sound vocally.

‘Cheshire’ is the best song Itzy has released this year imo. I usually get all of their albums but avoided getting Checkmate. I’m really liking all the songs on Cheshire, so I’m definitely going to get it.

ITZY will never have a downfall imo. Sneakers was not it for some people and even for me as a midzy since predebut, Sneakers was definitely their weakest title but also the best performing in Korea so far, their first album to reach 1M sales. So definitely not a "downfall" but it did feel like a stage of their career that didn't really make sense. The b-side were a serve though.
