The Cube represents society, it is chasing every individual who doesn't fit the standards of society. Here V is half blind, IU is deaf and mute. So they are running from oppression of society. The world is controled by these standards of perfection to the point that people in South Korea put masks on when they don't have make-up or when they feel unsecure or they wear hats when their hair is messy. The MV is a dysopian view of our society. While they are trying to hide in this abondonned place filled with the clothes of people who died because of this oppression, they find a camera that allows them to have an illusion of what their lives could be if they were "normal" by society's standards, it starts with their looks, they could see how they would have looked like, then what they would eat, then they start to feel the illusion a bit too much to the point they beautifully imagine that IU could sing and V could sing as well and she could listen to his voice, they could marry each other and just have fun and eat whatever they want because they wouldn't have to care about society or any other kind of oppression. However, as soon as they feel a little bit of confort and try to live their life, the Cube (society) finds them again and push them to retreat and flee again, but the Cube managed to find them again, they try to survive against it and try to fight it as hard as they can, but they cannot beat a stronger system, they just give up but at least they stayed together until the end. Even if they died at the end, they loved each other deeply, it shows that even if society is oppressive, people can love each other and they can find their soulmate even if they are not "normal or perfect" to the eyes of some many others. The pile of clothes is like from Spring Day, these people died because of injustice, but they deserved love, so the pile of clothes can look very gloomy and sad, but as in Spring Day MV if you don't forget them you can seem them happy and free where they are now.

I knew this mv was going to be excellent, but I didn't expect it to move we all like this. The tenderness (almost innocence?) between them was so disarming. And then the hopelessness of it all... I was so immersed that I could feel their fear and despair.. V and IU's acting and chemistry are so excellent. I loved the fact that Taehyung was not the stereotypical fearless male lead. That man was terrified (he acted it so well!!) and that made everything, including his moment of bravery, feel even more real.

What an incredible acting from them. Beautiful song and lyrics. Apparently the crowd in the wedding scene is actually mocking them, pointing their fingers, trying to destroy their happiness, criticizing them, and booing. But they are ignoring them. Thanks for this reaction familia… your expressions were like mine when watching this first time! Also the song lyrically is dedicated to IU’s fans who have accompanied her through out all the highs and lows according to the letter she released before this release. Her letter was very touching. I’ve included the key points that IU’s agency released this morning from their official MV interpretation guide from the director at the end of my comment (my comment is my initial thoughts and reactions before reading the interpretation guide.) For those who want to know the ‘official’ intended meaning of MV feel free to skip and scroll to the end of my comment. It’s so interesting to see how wrong some of us were… and how right some of us were… and I was pleased that some of the points I was right on but I totally didn’t pick up on the ending being positive actually… and ‘freeing them from oppression and pressure’. I thought it was a sad ending initially. It’s so 8nteresting to rewatch the MV after reading the official interpretation guide too. I think it’s a good lesson on our very preconceived ideas of love. Personally when I first watched it… the MV moved me to tears. The song was intricately and exquisitely beautiful… IU’s Vocals gave me goosebumps. The subtlety in the acting was perfection and the visuals by both… just wow. Tae in all his sweetness, softness and gentleness was the honestly the definition of prettiness. There was something so beautifully vulnerable and delicate about him, that touched my soul. In terms of the meaning… In the Korean press releases of this song used in all the articles yesterday… IU said that: ‘I want to respect and support everyone who loves and lives in various ways with love rather than hate’ this and the statement before when the song was called Love Wins was released which talked about people who face prejudices and obstacles in love… Personally make me think that it’s showing that many people in love face stigma’s and obstacles for whatever reason in life for things that they are born with and have no control over. Personally I think when they look through the camera they see the perfect world in which everyone can live without the lense of hate where people don’t see you or judge you for your stigma’s or labels but they see the whole you. Another thing that I find beautiful with the sign language involved is that both IU and Tae have a history of sign language. IU with her ear condition and Tae has communicated in official sign language many times (his birthday is even celebrated by some of deaf community in S.K). When it comes to the box I agree with your take, society trying to put us in a box… I also feel the box was representing the hate that tears people down and strips them of their humanity out of predjiduce. Personally I feel there was a wider message in this MV and feel that Tae very specifically chose to appear in this MV because of the message. I’ve lost count of times over the years where he has said he would like to side with the marginalised or the minority in life. From the creation of his drawn characters in numerous content, to his BT21 character, to his fairytale character he chose in the 7th Army Zip content that was tragically killed for being different. I feel like this MV very much fits with that ethos of representing and identifying with the marginalised in society. Also I think the message that love allows us to see the world with a healing and whole lense too. When IU sings ‘all love is love’ ‘all love wins’ in amongst the lyrics I got goosebumps. This MV for me was very much Art. And the song was beautiful. Fantastic job IU and Tae. V and IU are both magnificent in this MV. Tae's whole body was in actor mode. Just a few things to point out. The curling in of the shoulders as they entered the building shows he's unsure, fearful. Contrast that to the rage he showed when he was trying to beat the cr*p out of the cube. My favorite part was the hand grab towards the end. Did you see the slight trembling of their hands? Even V's veins were acting! And he managed to sneak in a TATA MIC FACE as IU was brushing the crumbs off his lips when he noticed the characters in black came in! 💯
