Thank you for posting this video :) My frenchie had IVDD is now recovering like a champ (after 4/5 weeks she recovered most of her hability to walk) One of our worries at home have been to try to figure out ways to minimize reoccurrence of the issue and Mielomalacia monster that still haunts us. Your video gave us a better insight and gives us hope on our little girl future.

My Dixie has ivdd. We are doing non surgical treatment. He isn't getting better. I would like to know what it costs to do surgery and if it can occur again.thankyou

Hi Stephen. We're sorry to hear that your pet has not improved with the non-surgical route. Unfortunately, in order to give clinical advice and a surgical estimate, our Neurologists require that pets be seen for a thorough workup. We are here for you if you need us. sevneurology.com Learn more about the costs of spinal surgery: sevneurology.com/blog/ivdd-surgery-cost/

My 2.5 year old Frenchie and Pekingese mixed pup had ivdd surgery 3 months ago. A month after surgery she walked and potty on her own. 2 months later almost back to herself again. 2 wks after her last treatments she declined and now is dragging hind legs. We are now crate resting with pain meds. She is still uncomfortable. Shaking and panting. I am afraid of another surgery for my fur-baby. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sorry to hear this. Dogs with one IVDD issue can have a second (or third) episode in their life. It’s about a 50% chance of recurrence without surgery and a 10% chance with surgery. I completely understand your hesitation for a second surgery. It’s expensive. It requires anesthesia and surgery. It has a recovery period. But assuming this is a new slipped disk, surgery still gives your pup the best chances of walking again. Whatever you choose is the right thing for you and your family. Thanks for taking care of her.

I know this is an older video though I hoped you could answer my question. My dog had a disc ruptured at T 11-T12. She had just a little feeling on her inner back toes at the time I took her to the surgeon to have surgery the following day. What are the chances she'll walk again and how long do do think this will take to slowly regain her ability to?

Tough to say specifically. In general, if there is feeling in the rear limbs, with surgery the chances of walking are in the realm of 90-95%. If cannot feel rear limbs, with surgery the chances are closer to 50%. Every dog is different with how LONG it takes to regain the ability to walk and the degree of function that is regained.
