Did anyone somehow stumble upon a random episode of this show and then thought "heeeyyy I haven't seen this show in forever" so you watched the one episode but then ended up watching the next, and the next, and now yours just watching a lot of them

This episode established 2 things for me. 1. Don't push Gus. He's a brave little dude. 2. King Bob is... surprisingly fair.

I love how Gus's dad is a trope example of the career, focused military man who never turns it off, but, he's never shown to be ashamed of his small, sensitive son. Usually that's a plot at some point in a cartoon like this ,but Gus is a gutsy little guy.

I know this is a cartoon but how the hell does a clock in a classroom have control over the master clock?

I don't know why he doesn't like the back of the bus. When I was in school the back seat was always the most sought after. And if we had a bench like that I'd lay down the entire bus ride.

Gotta say, Gus might seem like a wimp most of the time, but when he really want to, he can be seriously awesome. Yet this episode has something extremly cool going on. When Gus first arrives he is immediatly thrown on his own legs, standing alone literily abandoned by his father. And this has happened so many times for him. Of course he would feel appreciated by someone who actually took their time to help him. And when someone with power comes and tries to push him down, he is potraited as the new kid. He sits alone, and for all intents and purposes stands alone as the New Kid. But his new friends do something that is really not that much. They call him by his name. They are showing that he is not and outcast to the community. And to him, who has always been excluded this is a big thing. But this is only the first step. He still has to take his place in the community. So he is left to stand on his own legs, yet now he knows there is someone who got his back. So he goes up and fights his case. You can get all the help you want, but if you don't fight back yourself, it's a lost fight. And he is rewarded. He is now Gus Griswald. The last New Kid however decided to accept his place. Didn't fight to be treated fairly. And he waited three years to get what the one who took the leap got after a few days...

King Bob is such a weird and random ruler sometimes.

When Gus says to King Bob: "Who graduated and made you King?" --- If I were King Bob, I'd have told him who made me King

I remember they did a competition to come up with a new character for Recess. Thousands of kids sent drawings in. I remember watching them reveal Gus as the new character, though I don't recall who drew the picture.

I totally agree with you; and if all of these kids were about the age of teenagers and in middle school, then that's probably exactly what the creators of the show would make them both do. But since they are all just kids and only in elementary school; they have too keep it as innocent as possible, but hey at least the two of them both KISSED each other on the lips right? : )
