Can you imagine walking up to someone you just met and yelling at them "DON'T FALL IN LOVE WITH ME" I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't fall in love with you after that because that's fu*king weird. So I guess if you really don't want someone to fall in love with you yelling that at them during your first meeting with definitely make them avoid you for all time. It's just weird and arrogant and pretty narcissistic. I remember in the movie A Walk to Remember this good girl is supposed to tutor this bad boy and she says that to him right after she agrees to tutor him and they don't really know each other that well and even though we find out later she has cancer I always thought that was really fucking weird of her. And I still think about that moment to this day like wtf?

Yeah Idk why this is such a prevalent trope in romances... Most real people would rather die than get caught saying something like that 😂😂

If you want a book about a historical woman fighting for a profession that she is barred from solely because of her gender, I reccomend 'the Lady's guide to petticoats and piracy' by Mackenzie Lee. It is YA and is technically the sequel to the 'gentleman's guide to vice and virtue' but it can just as easily stand on its own. It's a historical with slightly fantastical elements.

So this author thought she was writing a feminist book, but made her main character super conventionally attractive and had every other character constantly remind her of how beautiful she is? 😂 Great. Nothing has changed, I see.

I always wonder, since this is an actual book, not a self-publish or something: Who publishes stuff like this? :D I don't mean to be mean, everyone deserves a chance. After all the author tried right? But isn't there something called a lector (don't know if this is the correct english term) who listens to an idea or looks over the book again before it gets launched. I don't find any better example because I by far don't read as much as you do, but how can this exist and Harry Potter gets denied by many publishers at first? 🤔 Also: great video. This was a blast to listen to. Thank you so much :D

Me: **Applauds you** Why? Because you're fearless in your opinion, and I love that you straight up suggest not to read The Beautiful. So many booktubers would be like "Don't read it, but you can if you're a little interested." That shit just leaves me confused. I came here for YOUR opinion, and I got it. I'm satisfied. And I definitely won't be touching The Beautiful as it sounds atrocious.

haha I'm not vain enough to assume that people immediately jump to doing (or not doing ;)) something depending on what I say without thinking about it themselves first anyway, so it doesn't make much difference to me if I say "don't read it" or "I don't want to tell you not to read it because you might enjoy it more but..." :P thank you for you lovely comment! :D

I love how your mind works in drawing out logic in your reviews. I really appreciate the effort you make to really disect the book for us. OMG, I hate when characters are sent back in time and is not thinking of a person who lived at that time. It is lazy writing. GREAT Point You made!

👏👏👏❤️ I really wish this had been good. By the way, I finished House of Salt and Sorrows! LOL so it was kind of what I predicted but also very weird. Meh, I gave it 2.75 but the crazy thing is that I would still recommend it to specific individuals because I liked how well it represented the feeling of a TRUE, classic fairytale. The whole plot was not my favorite, but I had a better time than expected!

@ivymuse
@ivymuse 4 жыл бұрын

I understand where you're coming from, I just want to say that feminist figures has existed since women exists basically. They're not historically inaccurate, it's just that we've never hear of them because most books were written by men.
@ivymuse

Yes but 1870s feminism and 2010s feminism are definitely not the same. The problem isn't that she's (allegedly) feminist, it's that it's a very anachronistic kind of feminism.
