Oprah started a school in Africa. I haven't heard of her doing the same in the US to address inequalities.
@CagedbirdFree
@CagedbirdFree 4 жыл бұрын
@@dawnemile4974 I recall her talking about developing a school in America on one of her shows. She started out tutoring kids in Chicago. Yet some of the parents wouldn't agree to her Saturdays "schools" etc. And, the Chicago system at the time wouldn't give her the freedom to run the school like she envisioned. So, she went to Africa because of Mandela's request. I need to find the video and article as a valid reference. Also, Oprah has given money to HBCU schools as well as other schools out of her pocket, and via the Angels Network. But, one of my favorite stories is hearing about her scholarships to Morehouse University for black men. One year, Tyler Perry had all the graduates that she sponsored surprise her. Im not sure if the scholarship is still available but she offered it for many years. FYI Lebron James has a school. I really admire him!! And, Magic Johnson--helps build black wealth. If you have a small business, google and find out if his insurance company is still helping give small business funding. He stated that the small black businesses didn't get anything from the recent "stimulus". Magic Johnson is a BIG GIVER! Unfortunately, we can't say much about Michael Jordon. I only admire him for his skills. I refuse to buy his apparel. The black community still buys his shoes and wears #23 for over 2 decades. Yet, what has he done for the very people that support him?

@@atableinthewilderness680 I wonder are you my ex? LOL!! We use to "debate" this issue too.:) I guess Im more of a Magic Johnson fan when it comes to his commitment to establishing sustainable wealth within the black community, as well as giving to diverse communities. . Yet, I will acknowledge that Michael Jordon did make a pledge toward social justice groups. You are right he can create his own narrative in how he gives. I just wish he would have used his Public platform to encourage the black youth that were primarily buying his products. Sidebar--I met Charles Barkley once and he told me that he didn't have to be anyones role model. Maybe Micheal's example to youth is a committed work ethic and mastering skill level. So, Table in the Wilderness--can this be something we agree?

@@atableinthewilderness680 no. That's not why. Stop. Edit: some things men find that come with masculinity is so weird..the things men want from women. Me having 4c hair, caramel skin, and getting in my feelings when im attacked has nothing to do with a mans masculinity. Im just a 19 year old shy introverted young woman. Once this boy punch me because i didnt respond to him calling my name. I got angry. He called me an angry black woman and talked about black girl attitudes...why? Am i supposed to let you punch me ? Run over me....treat me like some doormat? Black women cant feel what people cant help but feel. They want me to sit there and take everything. Black men don't want to keep they masculinity....its nothing to do with being manly. A woman can't take away a mans masculinity because a woman doesn't have that power. Only a man can choose his strengths. Black men[not all] just want hand outs. Man in general want easy. Want a girl to stfu and obey. Im just as much as a girl as anyone else and just as much as a human being. So excuse me for defending myself...im the only protection i have.

There is nothing more beautiful than taking the oppression thrown at you and turning it into empowerment for yourself and the masses. Black women are and have always been goddesses; it’s sad we live in a society that chooses to be ignorant of that, out of fear of all the magic beauty, power a black woman is made of. Thank you so much for using your voice, standing in your power and speaking your truth. You aren’t here for my appreciation or admiration, but I do appreciate and admire you ❤️
