In this 125th installment, Jimmy gets his “PRS” vibe on, and gives us a up close and personal look and listen to the very affordable IYV IPF-300 TSB “PRS Style” semi-hollow body guitar from Inyen Vina Guitars. Lightweight and a beautiful flamed maple top are just some of the attributes of this, the latest addition to the Stewart Record’s arsenal.

I have the solid body neck through version of this and I love it. But I do like my semi hollows. My solid body is so beautiful and easy to play that I am tempted to get this semi hollow. It is 214.00 on April 24, 2024. They just recently raise the price from 193.00. I wasn't crazy about the tree of life on the neck until I saw mine in person. Now I like it. Also, almost every review of this guitar it sounds good. I think I am sold.

I think it would be a good addition, especially if you have the neck through version and enjoy it! The weight difference should be quite noticeable… It’s a fun guitar and does sound quite good!! Congrats and enjoy it should you decide to pull the trigger Bill…🎸👍

I bout one of these expecting to level and crown the frets, adjust the truss rod, shut the nuts, revise the intonation, etc. BUT it was perfect out of the box. No finish flaws that I could find. Even the frets did not need polishing. All I did was change the strings and condition the fretboard. I was going to change the tuners but I can’t think of a reason yet. Review I think they took all of your comments to heart. This guitar far exceeds my expectations.

Hi John…thanks so much for watching and commenting. Yes, I think most “expect” to have to do at least a string change and standard setup on ANY guitar you buy on line, regardless of price point, but especially on budget guitars. IVY have been very consistent in being surprisingly good right out of the box. Truly appreciate your stopping into the channel and sharing your experience. It’s a guitar, like you said, that exceeds what most would expect and the price point would lead you to believe. Much thanks, and congrats on yours! 🎸👍

I got mine back in June when I moved to an apartment building and paired it with a nice little Marshall MG10... Amazing.. And not just because of the price... Just an amazingly good guitar! I'm pushing 67... Didn't need much set up out of the box... Changed the strings (who doesn't regardless?)... I think when the Rolling Stones wrote Happy it was because Keith and Ron just got new IYV IPF-300 TSB's....

Happy to find your channel. Your demonstration of the tones was great. So many tubers just roll out the hive of bees and single notes. I'm glad you didn't start with that. I got this guitar for the second time this week. The first time it came with a cracked neck. That happened in shipping because the string was broken at the nut. It was replaced. I really agree with your compliments on this guitar, I really like the neck, the sound and the light weight. I took it to band practice Saturday and found the pickups are microphonic. Feedback on very high gain sounds and the pickup select switch, when toggled, was blasting though my amp speaker. Not sure which way to go with it. I don't know if I should contact IVY, wax the pickups or replace all electronics.

@@daveallen9921 Hi Dave…thanks so much for watching and the kind comments. At “studio” volume I have not noticed any microphonic sounds coming from it, but I have not had it up to 11 either on stage or in a band situation. 😎 Yeah, you can try waxing them or you could remove the covers as well and see if that helps a bit…sometimes the microphonics goes away with uncomfortable pups..🎸👍

I bought this very same guitar about a month ago and I concur with your initial evaluation of the “out of the box” experience. Mine required nearly an identical once over like yours did. I have 4 other IYV’s that were respectable out of the box, but this one definitely needed way more work than the average joe should be expecting when buying the guitar. As you demonstrated, the guitar is pretty great after all is said and done. I hope this does not become the status quo for IYV because they do make some very nice budget guitars. Thanks for the honest review Jimmy.

Hey pardner, we did this guitar I think it was pre-covid when we did it and I also have a Harley Benton CST-24 HB that is very much like this one. I was rather disappointed in it myself, mainly because it was a little more expensive than the Harley Benton, I don't personally like the TOL inlays and the Harley Benton doesn't have that (although they make a version of the guitar that does) and the pickups although pretty good, weren't as good sounding to my ear as the Roswell pickups of the Harley Benton CST-24 HB. I ended up giving it to Jean Phillipe Rominger to be given to one of his students. Great job by you on the review. Thanks for your great work 👍!

Yes, I know that IYV in the past made a number of the Thomann models at their plant in Vietnam. The Mustang, the XT-22 and the Brian May all come to mind. HA!!!! It looks like my guess was spot-on! 😉 Welcome to the IPF-300 club! I absolutely LOVE mine-it’s become one of my absolute favorite guitars, along with the Telecaster! I love the looks of it, and how incredibly lightweight it is-it is the lightest guitar I have ever found so far. It’s interesting how much variation there seems to be with IYV-my unit needed some tweaking of the truss rod too, although it wasn’t nearly as badly set up as yours seemed to be. Yours also looks like it is more heavily flamed on the front than mine, and the back on mine is nearly black, not dark cherry as yours appears to be.

Any suggestions for fair priced replacement tuners found on Azamon for the IYV IPF 300? Sadly mine arrived damaged but otherwise it doesn't seem to suffer some issues you pointed out as it plays very well out the box as far as I can tell. It will be getting a little fret polish and oiling and new strings shortly and a check on the neck and frets. It sounds richer and sings more than my epiphone sheraton II pro which i was hoping this IVY would be a replacement for.I am quite pleased with these style guitars, I was always told i need a slim neck etc because my hands are quite small but i found it was hard on my carpal tunnel and arthritis. When I got the ip350 i was suprised how much more comfortable the thicker neck was to play. I was pleased to find a good priced ipf 300 and picked it up right away. Its also very comfortable guitar to play on the couch. Thanks for sharing your brains and talent, it certainly added to my knowledge and my guitar collection. Happy Christmas

Hi Marki…thanks for watching and commenting. Normally the tuners on these are just fine, however if they are damaged and require replacement I have heard good things from others who have replaced with MusicLily, Guyker, Wilkinson, Tone Ninja. Decent tuners for the $$. I believe they are 10mm but you may want to measure holes and shaft lengths to be positive. Congrats on yours and enjoy it! 🎸👍 Best of the holidays to you and yours as well!!

I been looking at this one for over ayear, waiting for the price to come down.its now on Amazon for 165 bucks if anyone is wanting one,now is the time.wont get any cheaper I don't think.i just don't care for the finish and color.i have heard the neck is thick,I like thin necks.Being so light, does it neck dive?I did find a ivy semi hollow natural all mahogany.Open box from ebay. The website pictured it as dark brown, but I got an all most black guitar.I really wanted the one in pic, because the wood grain really popped. You can hardly see the grain on the one I recieved.Other than that, the finish was close to flawless,It did have few issues, the frets were rusty, few high frets, and a bad solder connection.Fretboard was dryer than a popcorn fart, had to oil 4 times.Even that said, less issues than any of my budget guitars.im pleased with it so I'm going to keep it for now.I only paid 105 bucks for it all in.I believe I scored another great ivy guitar, for cheap.Keep it up iyv.

Its a good guitar, and priced very good right now! I play mostly sitting down in the studio, so can’t really comment about “neck dive” though I never really had issue with any guitar over the years actually. I don’t classify the neck as “thick” either…it’s a modern C and feels comfortable to me. We all have our preferences so it may not be your cup of tea, which is understandable. I am not a big PRS style guy myself, and the Vine of Life fretboard inlay turned me off at 1st, but it has grown on me over time and IYV did it well.

Hey Jimmy, you finally got this one. It took me several hours on my set up as well. Lot's of little issues. Mine did have some fretsprout. Now that it's been done it's a beautiful player and sounds great. The pickups measure around 10k and have a nice balance in tone with good response from the tone pots. Gotta love that ivy fretboard, but mine was really dry. The wraparound bridge was a bear to set up but fortunately my intonation was okay but the bridge was missing one of the setup screws, love mine now. The weight is amazing and overall a great player and looker. The sound has a nice influence brought on by the acoustic body.

@@agateenchantmentrockwizard5969 The biggest issue was the basically “non-engaged” truss rod. Once I checked that, I was able to start dialing it it. @@JimmyStewart1 I really appreciate your demos/reviews. You are huge in proving the names Fender, Gibson, PRS and the like, are mostly namesake payments. Todays $150 - $275 GUITARS ARE 1970S AND 1980S ENTRY LEVEL around $300 bucks. The quality is probably better than yesterdays standards. I own an IVY AND 2 fireFly's. Beautiful guitars. I would put them up against entry to $600 Epiphones and Fenders. Paying for a name is the current market wallet draining issue. Quality should be the same and probably is in lower end products. They want you to believe you pay for quality. Truth. Quality is already there.

Hi Emrys345 Guitar…thanks for watching and commenting! The neck is 42mm at the nut. Radius is Asian Standard @350mm or 14” in a Modern C profile. I have not measured the “thickness” per se…it’s a 60’s slim feel to it. Not chunky….hope that helps. Appreciate your stopping into the channel. 🎸👍

Jimmy, when you were unboxing the IYV I saw a Monoprice box underneath it. Is that the 66SB? If not, you are out of control. All kidding aside, I like the looks of the body and it sounds great to me. The pickups do sound amazing. The tree of life on the neck is too much for me though. The 66SB is still on the top of my wish list for now. Thank you for the demo and as always love your videos. You are always entertaining and always bring a smile to my face. Have a great weekend!

Thanks for watching and commenting Tosm..that’s tough to say, as the guitar is very nice AFTER I set it up. Plays and sounds great, so I can certainly recommend it for any player. The issue is if it comes like mine did, a beginner may or may not have the skills to set it up properly. Others have reported it coming fine out of the box, so it’s a bit of a chance with what you may or may not have to do with it just like any guitar you may but online. It’s worth the chance in my opinion, as IYV guitars normally come setup pretty well!! Hope that helps with your questions…👍🎸

Got mine last Tuesday almost perfect. Everything is great all I had to do was adjust the truss rod and set the action. Body was perfect. But the big problem I'm having is with the tuners. The low E is stiff as a board and some of the other ones spin like they had oil on them and they're getting worse. Yes I installed new strings and used graphite lube on the nut. I ordered new tuners Guyker Guitar Locking Tuners 1:18. Hope I made a good choice. Can you please tell me the diameter of the tuner peg holes, the ones I ordered are 10mm with a 45 degree fixing tag. Thank You

Hi John…thanks for watching and commenting! Congrats on your new IYV!! Sad to hear about the tuners…mine have all been pretty good overall on all my IYV guitars. Nice guitar and Review Jimmy! This one slipped through. My IYV's are very good out of the box. I don't care for the compensated bridge. I've worked on far too many. the post holes must be close to perfect, otherwise there may be precious little room, or none for adjusting intonation. CNC is off calibration. There are other issues, but maybe another time. I'm not a usual fan of humbuckers for my playing, but I have 'em in 20 or more guitars for gigging and recording. BTW, I find the old First Act guitars humbuckers to be super good. Bright, resonant, and sound strong. They cause break up slightly later than most others. If you find some used guitars for sale grab 'em. I have five of their 'high' end guitars (222 models) and have gigged and recorded with them repeatedly. The "222" models have rosewood, basswood and good attention to detail. Oh yes, I wish they would make a full hollow body in this exact style. I have a 68 Greco from Japan that is the best guitar I've ever owned since 1956. Full hollow body, trapeze tailpiece, 24.75" scale. I've refretted it too many times. Who knows how many hours I've played it. Huge sound! Single coils. This model would be very close with hot SS , or P-90's. Slim, easy play. Just needs a few years for wood aging maybe. Thanks for reading my babble....

Looks and sounds great! I've got the neck through that looks a lot like it. The action on mine is a little high and it's got a little fret sprout by the body. I haven't really tried adjusting it yet. I've always had the guitar shop set up my guitars but I'm going to try this one myself eventually. It's playable the way it is but it could be a lot better. And yes it's a really heavy guitar for its size. It's actually a lot heavier than my mahogany body LP copy which is kinda weird since its a smaller guitar. I bought mine with the intention of gutting it and replacing everything. But the pickups sound a lot better than I imagined they would. Way better than most inexpensive pickups ever do so I may leave it alone. The LP copy I got from them sounds really good too so I'll probably wait to trick out another guitar until I get something that actually needs it. I am going to replace the tuning machines on both of them. They hold tune but aren't smooth at all. Great video Jimmy!😊

I have found the tuners on the IYV’s to be perfectly serviceable. Not the best of course, but they do the job. In fact, I was pretty sure it wasn’t my cup of tea either…probably why I hesitated so long in grabbing one. The intricate fretboard inlay and such just looks a bit “busy” in my opinion, however once I had it in my hand I started to change my opinion a bit. It’s very light, fretboard and fretwork done very well, the neck radius along with 25 scale and 24 fret give it a big feel in a smaller, lightweight style body. It really is fun to play, access to the higher frets is great due to the horns and the pickups sound pretty darn good too!! Appreciate your watching and commenting with your thoughts! 👍🎸
