Saiga 12 was my first AK weapon system platform. Back in '06. Searched for a long time. finally found one for 600. jumped all over it. Threw my money at the shop. I think it's time to ad a vepr12 to the operating system.

I really like my SDS Lynx, but am selling that towards a Vepr 12 folder. I like the adjustable gas on the Lynx but sounds like the Vepr eats about anything.

I just picked up a Lynx and it’s freaking awesome for around the $500 dollar mark. Seems to cycle anything, my reloads included 👍

great video. I have Vepr 12 and Vepr 12sbs, no saiga shotguns. CSSPECS makes great steel magazines for Vepr and Saiga rifles. 8 and 10 round capacity. So even through I love oem magazines and have some, they great alternative. SGM is hit and miss, all mine don't work with several attempts of making them work.

I had one of the original Saiga 12s back 2003-2004. I sold it around 2011 during the S12 panic. Got one of the first SGL12s Arsenal sold and we even did one of our earliest videos on it, but a friend talked me out of it too...no matter, that was right when the VEPR12s were starting to come in anyway. My V12 is from the first or second batches that were imported with a folding stock. I only recently got this SGL12-94, figured why not? Just for pure handling, I like it better but for reliability & durability; v12 all the way. Also, my luck with SGM mags as been much like yours, so i have been using OEM ones for years, no problems.

Ozark Bear Arms awesome, love your videos. But do check out, www.csspecs.com they make great magazines. They are one of handful companies that make magazines for rifles that are banned and do great job. And i support them for doing so

Last years Kalashnikov mostly worked for army contracts and civil market was not so interesting for them. Factory was overloaded. But last 2-3 years kalashnikov extended production and deliver to market a lot new civil models. Due to that saiga become more popular vs Vepr last couple years especially for IPSC in Russia. Kalashnikov dramatically improved Saiga resource. My Saiga is one year old and have 10k rounds without any problems as well no any issues with reloading at all. Couple folks in my team have Saigas over 30k....Vepr after 10k may have some issues. Molot now in bankruptcy process starting Jan'20 ((

Great comparison really enjoyed it! I just bought a Garaysar fear 103 AK style 12 and it looks much like the VEPR and shoots (kicks) much the same! I saw similar failures when I shot mine but it seems to be smoothing out. It like the Saiga has an adjustable gas system. The Garaysar came with no recoil pad and I have found not much available to fit the small 4 inch tall AK composite stock. I did manage to locate a 1inch thick slip on Limbsaver small size that will work. I recommend using some black RTV and glue it on so it will not slip around on you! Thanks for posting!

I got and tested a sds cheetah 12 recently. 100 rds. All low brass. Might as well have been a bolt action. Opened the gas system the whole way, didn't improve things. I miss my vepr. That thing would run any and all

The service version of the Saiga 12 is actually called the 18,5 KS-K. It's for the most part the same as the Vepr equivalent: it lacks the gas tube adjustments, it has a bolt hold-open system (although lacks a release button), has the same magwell and lacks a dovetail mounting point and instead uses a hinged dust cover with a picatinny rail

Building my saiga 12 to Russian military specs. Right now I just got the rpk style handguard and a bolt on front sight post. Gotta source the parts still..

I prefer my Saiga because it's a bit lighter and prefer the side optic mount for a red dot. I don't want to front sight post on the VEPR. I also prefer a manual gas block. I did add a different Magpie stock thats super comfortable. That said, the VEPR is very nice and I can see why someone would prefer it.

Awesome stuff, Misha. I bought my VEPR-12 right after the sanctions were announced in 2017. All I can say is I wish I'd have bought one sooner as it's an excellent shotgun and great to shoot. Now if I could only find original Russian magazines over 5 rounds to compliment it with......

I'm in the same boat, I just ordered a Vepr 12 2 days ago. The mags are just too damn expensive, I did find a company called CSSpecs that sells steel Vepr 12 magazines in 8 and 10 round configurations for about half the price of the Russians

Found my saiga in hunter format for 600 at a pawn in SC a few months ago. Got a smith to convert er to a folder for 350. Slapped on a 5.5 rear, converted a arsenal 4.5 to fit, got all the rest parts from various sources. Absolutely love her, but hate finding mags. She cycles buckshot like nobodys buisness, especially 3" shells, but on setting 2, doesn't seem to cycles bird. Im thinking about filing away at the plug to see if thatd let in more gas to cycle it...

My S12 still stove pipes on WM birdshot even though the action has been polished but my Vepr 12 runs like a sewing machine. Glad I got both well before the sanctions. I bought CSS metal mags for both. I will buy original Vepr 10 rd mags which are $125 ea today.

We've gotten a lot of requests to do the Cheetah and its variations but haven't had one come through to look at yet. We both have VEPRs, and Misha had a Saiga-12, so neither of us have had an excuse to pick one up for ourselves. - Jay

I had the hunting saiga when they very first came out. It was rare and converting them was becoming the rage. But it felt so cheap.... like dollar store cheap. I sold it without ever shooting it. Was going to convert but felt it was a waste of time since I couldn't get over how cheap it felt. I have a vepr on layaway at the gun shop I'll have paid of by the end of the month. It feels like a quality firearm over the original import saiga.

Yes, just stick with the original Russian factory magazines. As for drums? personally I have no use for them. Very big, bulky, heavy, slow to load, and never as reliable. Plus for the VEPR12, you have all that weight hanging off the mag catch w/o any support in the front. That can't be great for the thing long-term.

Ozark Bear Arms. I was wondering if you could give me some suggestions. I have a Saiga 12, that is giving me a some problems. I have cleaned it and can fit a pick in 3 out of 4 ports, it was painted by someone else who painted the inside of the receiver it still hangs up on me around the left side of the front trunion. I am wondering if I need to bore out the gas block or just polish the left side of the trunion and take off the paint that is there? I also have changed out the spring for a reliability recoil spring would changing it back to stock help me?

Both of shotguns looks awesome. I should pick up Saiga because the prices haven't gone up for them that much. It seems like Saiga worked better on gas position 2 than 1 (I'm not a hunter of any kind, I don't mind people hunting for food (I understand that), but killing for game or sport I don't like it killing lions, elephants etc.. for trophies or killing foxes/seals for their fur. Is something we don't need anymore and animals are important to the balance of the ecosystem. Being a animal lover is not very manly thing to do I know many guys would consider me a "Gay/fairy/faggot" )

The SGL12 works fine on gas #1 if you're using 3" magnums or other powerful shells. #2 is for the lighter stuff and we took this shotgun out a couple weeks back again. It ran 2 full boxes of the light stuff w/o any hickups at all, so probably just a bit of breakin is all. As to animals, you know I have several cats right? lol

Mine works the opposite way. Wtf 2 runs low brass and 1 runs only really hot loads. My block is bulged a bit the previous owner didn't clean it and I had to take the block off to clean a golf ball size amount of carbon out. Surprised the gun didn't blow up and hurt the original owner. Dumb ass.. No wonder it stopped working.
