*This a joke character* Introducing Urie from Ukraine!!
Taking a look at the differences between the Vepr12 and Saiga12 shotguns.
One of the Big differences I forgot to showcase was the bolt release feature. I added it in text after i released I forgot about it. I do not use that feature much because I like to do traditional AK style Charging using the handle. That feature is key for competitions because it allows for faster times. Since I do not sure competitions and need to be as fast as possible. It gets little use from me. My apologies in neglecting that.

Good morning Urie/Steve, I have owned a Vepr 12 for a couple of years and absolutely love it. I just have to go back to this video every so often because I miss Urie (you too Steve). You are simply excellent in switching accents! Please keep posting - as Urie or as yourself - I love you both. Again, all the very best to you (Steve and Urie) and yours, Terry

I own both a Saiga 12 and Vepr 12, found a SDS lynx 12 on budsgunshop after taxes it was like 350. The Lynx out of the box ran better than both of the better quality about 3 times as expensive guns. It's nowhere near the fit and finish of a vepr but I'm shocked at it working so well! The Saiga I got runs flawlessly firing everything now that I've put some money and time into it. A reliability kit and a tac 47 auto plug, as well as just shooting/ breaking it in is what it took. I'd love to try out one of the newer kalashnikov USA ks 12's.

The Vepr will run birdshot through the drum, but you need to polish the bolt face, and put a lighter recoil spring on the guide rod. You might need to grind a mm or less off of the hammer and you'll get more reliable results. You probably know all this though.

Found that with a new 25 rd drum, a little powdered graphite added makes the drum slick on inside so it feeds better. Low brass has to be approx 1250 fps or better to work in the Vepr. Pay attention to fps and dram equivalent. A broken in gun ALWAYS runs better. Get it broke in and work your way down in fps or dram until you have a problem, then dont use that ammo. VEPR is a Vepr. Great semi auto 12. Some sharp edges can be filed off here and there to make it less abrasive to fingers etc. With that Russian Sutaev muzzle brake it is more flat shooter, but better, more modern usa made brakes are available. Love the basic crudeness of the AK design. Reliable is what you are after here...not looks! Peace out!

VEPR is a better target/competition gun and Saiga is a better hunting/combat shotgun. The VEPR wins on reload speed, but it's 'universal' gas block works by bleeding off a ton of gas from 00 buck and slugs so that it can cycle target ammo, but not beat itself apart shooting full power loads. The issue there is that the projectiles are loosing a lot of velocity and power. So though the Saiga 12 is more inconvenient with it's adjustable gas system, you can dial it up to run target ammo or down for full power loads while retaining performance. VEPR is also quite a bit heavier and bulkier. Saiga is lighter and more streamlined with it's standard AK furniture. So again, for a range gun or for competition, mag changes with the VEPR will be faster. For hunting or combat though, the Saiga is easier to carry and better utilizes full power loads.
@ChrisUrsiny
@ChrisUrsiny 7 жыл бұрын
imho the vepr 12 wins hands down, why? its importable, the saiga has been banned for about 5 years if i recall correctly, plus the vepr 12 seems to be overall less finicky about the ammo it shoots 9 times out of 10 it functions adequately with almost all ammo, the saiga needs a bit more massaging or work if you want to call it that so it functions as it should have right out of the box, personally with my vepr12's i only shoot wolf rifled slugs and high brass buck shot and never ever had a malfunction. if you want any saiga or vepr to work its best polish all contact areas like the bolt, carrier, rails, hammer, etc, this will greatly improve the gun cyclical ability when you are using it.

Chris Ursiny hey I've seen a couple of your videos when I was looking for breaks lol. I know what you mean though. I consider the saiga a great project gun if you want to put the wrench time in. I loved building it. Vepr wins yes, but both cool I think. The only time I remember having issues with the vepr was in the video using birdshot in the drum. It's always cycled everything. My saiga is just well broken in over the years, so now I never have an issue either. It ran flawless in the video. No tricky edits anywhere. Everyone saw what happened that day.

@@frankernest3712 So he said, but the Saiga ran a drum with only one jam and the action not closing all the way at first. When there’s no indication that the drums came from different manufacturers, and one ran better than the other, I’m inclined to believe it’s the guns, not (just) the drums.

@@CrudeConduct666 That’s what he claimed, but there’s no evidence of that, just his word. Meanwhile, the Saiga ran the previous drum with only one jam, and at no point does he indicate they came from different manufacturers. When they both ran drums from presumably the same company, and one runs better than the other, it’s most likely the guns making the difference.

I used to have a Saiga. Fun gun, but had a few issues that were mostly addressed on the VEPR. Gas adjuster was fucking annoying... it was hard to tell what setting it was on, and got jammed up after not being cleaned commonly to the point where you would need a screwdriver to turn it. No magwell on the saiga was another good selling feature on the vepr - inserting a mag into an ak style rifle can already be a little annoying, but it was even worse on the saiga in my experience. Ended up selling mine because I needed cash at the time, looking to possible buy a new one and will absolutely go vepr if i can get a good price.

My saiga cycles ALL but Winchester #7&1/2 from walmart. The federal runs fine. No veprs in maryland only chinese knock offs which do work just as good seemingly.

Maybe it's the cabin fever from being inside so long with the pandemic but, I was entertained! :-) You mentioned in an earlier video on the Vepr 12 that you had changed some of the internals to comply with 922R when you changed the charging handle, the OEM handguard and the vertical foregrip. Could you elaborate on those parts; if those parts enhanced performance; where you got them or if it was just a compliance move? My Veper 12 is box stock and I'm still amazed at how good it is though, I like to optimize all my self-defense gear.

Box mag is superior over the drum you get more shots in a drum but it much bigger and more akward to carry and you waste much volume since the shells are in the outside area, realy drums are more for fun than they are practical. Side note realy the true usefull drum magazines where used by the MG 34 and 42 (don´t know if the MG 3 had them), cause these drums where empty and just for holding a 50 round belt and make it more convienient than having a belt hanging of the side where it could be cought by something. Also i real realy want a Vepr-12

Put the comp from the VEPR 12 on the S12 and it will shoot just as flat, both have M22x.75 threads...so that is a little unfair to the S12. A little practiced technique and you can load on a S12 closed bolt and be just as fast as the VEPR. Both great shotguns but the review is a bit biased toward the VEPR.....

you can shoot buck with low brass kit. Just turn you gas setting down to 1-2. It really wasn't meant to be apples to apples. however, at the end of the day they are both 12g shotguns. one with a manual gas adjustment to try and get them similar. it generally shows how effective the comp is.

Please No Yuri.... in any accent... Unless it's the CIA using it instead of waterboarding... As far as the VEPR vs. Saiga. I think the Saiga went through some of the growing pains for which the VEPR benefited from. The VEPR is definitely more refined and geared more for competition than the Saiga. When the Saiga started coming in to the States, it was more of a gimmick than practical. VEPR on the other hand, are heavily used in some countries in 3 Gun competition. As a matter of fact even the latest Chinese variants are equipped similarly as the VEPRs. I own a VEPR for several years now and I've done some work to it as well and I will have to admit that it is one of the smoothest auto I've shot.

Based on this video the vepr seems a little overated to me the saiga seems like a good gun without all the extra features of the vepr

It's because he's running drums that aren't perfectly cleaned. Believe me, I have a VEPR and with my 12 round mags no matter what I put in it, birdshot to slugs it runs flawlessly every time.

I don't know if you are American or not but before you bag on him for pronunciation, go to Google Translate and translate from English to Russian, the word SAIGA. Then listen to the audio pronunciation...its SAYGA, even the phonetic spelling is SAY GA.

The Vepr will be MUCH more expensive than the Saiga 12( in Russian, pronounced suh-iee-gah vee-nohtzit)!
