潮が引かない場合もあるので気をつけてください。 潮が引く大雑把な理由は、他のところで先に海面上昇が起こって、水がそっちに吸い寄せられるから。 つまりそっち側では潮は引かずにいきなり津波が来ることになります。

The Tsunami wall in this video would be helpful under "normal" circumstances, but not for such a cataclysmic event, such as that day. At least they have high ground within close proximity, along the Japanese coast. Where I live on the Oregon coast, the closest hills are a half mile away.

Watching this video was terrifying! At first you can see the waves coming in the distance and then a wall of water just keeps coming and coming. For anyone, a TSUNAMI is deadly and not to be underestimated. What a shock to see what happened to Japan and all those villages and towns that were wiped out in minutes. Fortunate for those who got to higher ground and were saved. I would never want to experience this. It has been 10 years since the event and I can only hope that people were able to rebuild and get back to their lives. My heart goes out to all who were lost. Great respect for the Japanese people and their resolve. God Bless.

I really get the impression that sea walls are not the answer here. I heard about one town in the tsunami zone that chose to relocate to a higher level rather than build a higher sea wall. Whatever the answer, I hope we never have to see scenes of devastation like this ever again. It’s heartbreaking to see whole towns like this wiped off the map in minutes, even now, ten years on. Yes, it really is very helpful to us when good people like this risk their lives so we can know what happened and HOW it happened. These video's are more helpful than people think. I remember growing up and hearing about tsunami's (called tidal waves where I lived), but we never SAW video of them until later on when technology permitted it. One question though, how did we "mess with mother nature"? You implied human did something to cause this particular event. Just wondering what it was???

There's certainly no shortage of horrific footage of this tsunami. But this one truly reveals the scale and sheer height of water rushing in. The seawall appears to be at least 35+ feet high easily dwarfing the cars, ships and buildings around it. It's hard to imagine the surrounding ocean ever reaching such a height. Yet, in mere seconds the water swells and overtakes the wall easily.
@stiimuli
@stiimuli Жыл бұрын
The height is exaggerated here due to the shape of the land and even the wall itself. In narrow inlets and bays the water gets pushed higher (and faster) than in more open areas.

It is a huge wave actually. In some places in Japan it was over 100 feet tall. I believe the tsunami walls here were 50 or 60 feet tall. Also, here we see the wave did not break because this was a deep harbor. There are other videos where the wave does break and you can better gauge the height and power of the wave. Also, the wave has a very long wavelength so it takes a long time for the crest to fully come ashore.

With this huge Tsunami we Japanese were thrown into grief , pain , sorrow and fear . It's drifted like as leaf as easily as it seems that the car was so light . The minds of Japanese people were swept away by the world of impermanence and evanescence . This video maker widely communicated this horror and sorrow to the world . I thank you as a Japanese person .

@ Malcolm Cullen I think I've found it: "Sugoi" - means “horrible” or “threatening”. This can be used in good or bad meaning. The sense that the Japanese use of the word "Sugoi" derives from that feeling of horrible excitement you feel when you’re confronted with something so overwhelming that your brain just stops to marvel at it.
