Mesmerizing.........makes you want to know every part of the composition. Perfect weeping violin, subdued but comforting voice and of course all embracing organ.... all the more deepens the sadness .... normally .... but this trio's performance uplifts your spirit beautifully. Bach. Sublime......

This has got to be the saddest, but most beautiful music ever written by the greatest composer the world has yet produced. This is the song sung by St Peter who had denied knowing Jesus Christ three times before the cock crowed, just as Jesus said he would. It is said that after hearing this, Peter went out and cried bitterly, and this is the reason why this incredible music was conceived. Not only Peter, but even the violin seems to be crying. And all this written in the 18th century, when emotion and the fragility of the human condition was supposed to be never realized until the heavy romantisism a century later which we can all now see was completely wrong. It's interesting to see the cello replacing the countertenor voice, which although it is absolutely wonderful, nothing can really compare to the emotion impact of this piece generated by the sound of the human voice for which it was written.

The Erbarme Dich easily ranks as one of the best pieces of Western Music of all time.

This musical piece is a jewel, the "Saint la Chapel" of the baroque. Both apparently small works, unnoticed in the great city of art, but when one comes across them, one realizes that they are the most precious and valuable jewel of their kind.

You thought it was too fast? Interesting... The Emma Kirkby (sung) version clocks in at just over 6 mins, which means it's even faster than their rendition (by just under 2 minutes at that)... Each to their own, I suppose. I know in the vocal renditions, they have to play slightly faster otherwise those notes are just too long to hold! :D I thoroughly enjoyed singing along to this, though; tests the lungs. :) Beautiful playing: organ, cello and violin are all beautiful instruments played well.
