What a bloody good instructor. "Let the runway come up to meet you" Never a truer word said.

It's great looking back to my first landings, they certainly took me a while to nail but I'm very happy with where I am at now. Thanks Ian.

Awesome video. Excellent instructor. I did a refresher flight yesterday in that aircraft, with Sue Ingham. I thoroughly enjoyed the way she instructed. After 13 years to the day, out of the pilots seat, one could say, I was a bit rusty. Thanks to clubs and instructors like this, it's a pleasure to get back into flying. Can't wait for my next session.

For what it's worth I always teach these lineup checks for basic students.. (I assume we have used a checklist for the pre-takeoff so the flaps are set).. As you line up . The runway is - the correct runway you were expecting to line up on... My aim point (for maintaining runway heading) is -identify it, The wind is - say out loud (e.g a headwind with a cross wind from the left), controls preset (into wind aileron, where do you want the elevator to be). The preset controls lets the student think what he needs to put in and make sure its actually put in (a carry over from my helicopter days) Then apply full power - The engine is developing full power (RPM), acceleration feels normal, Airspeed is increasing (fail any of these is an immediate abort).

The checklist is a full pre-take off checklist in the school that Ian teaches at..I personally have been trained by Ian and he is all about getting a pilot ready for the real world, Ian doesn’t want average pilots, he wants excellent pilots…Ian also generally does an hour of theory before each flight with his students.. When I did my flight test with another person CFI of our school, the CFI said I can see your trained by Ian, a pleasure to test..Ian is a pilot examiner who tests CFI’s at schools..his videos only show some of the flight as they will go to long..

Just found your channel, so impressed with your method of teaching. I flew from Tyabb Victoria and this has given me the incentive to go back into it.

Really enjoying this video. I flew the fat boy in SOuth Africa in Kimberley during my training. Lovely plane. Not too sure about the reliability of the new Jabiru engine. I heard from an instructor that the new engine has lots of problems but I never read anything about that...So a mystery... But lovely video. Thank you.

Hi Alex The new engine Gen 4 is the best according to our mechanic in the aviation school, we have many jabiru aircraft that fly nearly everyday with no problems at all.. The Jabiru isn’t the most comfortable aircraft in its class, however it is said by many schools the strongest in its class..

@@stevemiranda2418 Thank you very much for your kind reply. Still contemplaing to buy one in South Africa. New or second hand. They are builing them in George in the Western Cape. I really enjoyed flying the"old" 6 cylinders as well. Haven't flew for more than 3 years now. Flew mainly 172 and the Sling 2. But the Sling is now far over-priced.

Good news is that the Gen 4 engine is improved and in my experience an even more reliable unit. Go fly…

Excellent tutorials 👍. One comment at 21:48, the attitude was ok but looking at the ASI with 35 Kts indicated the plane was rapidly running out of lift with stick just about on the back stops so with delay in applying power the ground came up to meet the wheels. At that point it was a committed landing and Jabs do tend to run out of control authority at that speed. Having been there myself if you get presented with new information as in "tell me when the runway gets wide", the brain tends to forget momentarily the previous practice until its logged in the real time memory bank. Keep it up Paul you are doing great lest you are already there. ✈

Glad you like the videos. Just for correctness…the video at your nominated time, the ASI was just slipping under 60kn. The approx stall speed is around 45kn. Paul has gone on deservedly to get his Certificate. A good pilot. Cheers
