When Big Jack talked, everybody listened! R.I.P to a great man.

I'm an alcoholic. I was in Kevin Street college when Paul went missing before an International. It was all over the evening papers "Paul McGrath Missing!" ... and he was drinking in our bar, the junction in Kevin Street .. .at ten in the morning ... drinking a pint, minding his own business and being left to it.. Neither of us knew we had a problem, obviously! 11 years sober. I hope Paul is okay. He beat Italy that day, every ball that went into our half .. bang ... straight back out with his head.

Great player and a decent fella, Paddy Crerand and him came to our hotel when we had a trip screwed up by the travel agent. We were supposed to meet the man.utd team before the match, we were then told it had been changed until after the match, when we came to meet them most of the players were away. When paddy heard about it he took us on a trip around old Trafford and got our hotel address and brought Paul McGrath with him to meet us. They stayed for about an hour. One of the greatest players and a great guy

Never a truer word said that they will look after you when you are a player, but when your career is over you are on your own. Fergie was ruthless when it came to football and got rid of Paul from Man Utd along with Norman Whiteside, due to their heavy drinking. However, Paul McGrath spoke fondly of Fergie and understood his position. I remember when he was interviewed he said that he had asked Fergie for help years later and Fergie stepped up and provided it. All Paul said about this was that it was nothing to do with money.
