I grew up watching old westerns and Jack Elam was always a favourite. His comedic sense and the style he brought made the "Support Your Local ..." my all time favourite roles to watch him in. Swifty Morgan will never be forgotten. Thank you for this video about an interesting man who made so many people scowl and then laugh.

I love this guy. The scene in Rio Lobo, when he's playing a mouth harp and just making god-awful noises, John Wayne asks him," Is that the only song you know?" Jack say's, " I don't know this one, that's why I keep practicing!". Pure gold!!

So, he was blind in the left eye at 12, and had a lazy right eye. His mother died when he was three. And still helped out the Navy, was likable, had not one but *two* happy marriages and a productive life. A lot of people could learn something from Mr. Elam's example. Myself included :)

By this excellent account from Jerry, we learn that not only was Jack a real legend as a character actor, but a great human being who was devoted to his wives, only parting them in death, and being a good friend to that kid with the advanced aging disease. Glad I saw this documentary! Know surprise in a way his history. It oviously shaped molded his character! You could see in his eyes, although blind in one eye, something very special about this gentleman! His sensitivity, compassion, gentleness, kindness, love 💕! Sounds & looked like he was a real life Saint! Neat to hear his favorite movie was, " Support your local Gunfighter". The ending Jack, on the train seemed perfect! He went off to be a Star! R.I.P. I enjoyed learning more about Jack Elam. My only disappointment was there was no mention of his role in Cannonball Run with Burt Reynolds. I'll never forget his character in the movie and how funny the outtakes were.

Loved this one, especially because I am a distant collateral relative of Jack Elam.Way back in the early days in Virginia, the Elam family, the Cheatham family, The Roberts family, had numerous intermarriages.At one time there was a man named Elam Cheatham and his cousin was Cheatham Elam.Thanks for the fine, as usual, tribute.

Does anyone remember the movie about the famous oil well fire fighter, red Adair from 50/60era ??? Didn't John Wayne play Adair ? I haven't seen or heard of that in any reference in any bios? Am I wrong? It's so clear I'm not sure I have right memory!! It was a great tribute to the courageous jobs they did back then.....we need their help with this crazy fire season?.. maybe they'll have ideas to save Land, homes and lives!!!

I always loved watching Jack Elam in any film he made. Even though he never studied acting or went to any kind of acting school he was a natural. And his looks and bad eye helped his image for some reason! He was a great actor and when he started doing comedy I loved his movies more. Rest in peace Jack. You certainly deserve it.

The last made for T.V. movie I saw him in was "The Sacketts" where he played Ira Bigalow. That movie starred Sam Elliott, Tom Selleck , Ben Johnson and Glen Ford. Jack Elam was always a great addition to any movie he was in, may he R.I.P.

My father was married to Jack's sister, Millie, hence the last name on the headstone. Jack came by their house one time and we all sat around for an afternoon listening to his stories. A very intelligent and articulate man. As entertaining in life as on the screen.

As a young boy who grew up in England in the 1950s I grew to admire Jack Elam watching westerns on TV .He was a big favorite of my dad's and we watched Wagon Train and Maverick were among his favorites. Thanks for your videos.

It's from the beginning of "Once Upon a Time in the West," when Jack played the role of "Snakey," one of the three men dispatched to kill "Harmonica," played by Charles Bronson. Harmonica: Did you send Frank? Snakey: Frank sent us. Harmonica: Did you bring a horse for me? Snakey: (LAUGHS) Looks like we're shy one horse. Harmonica: (SHAKES HEAD) You brought two too many. Jack was one of my all time favorite character actors, right there alongside Dub Taylor, Slim Pickens, and Strother Martin. What a legend.
