Boy, there is no way you could get away with some of this stuff today. She was brilliant, funny, glamorous, and gorgeous. What a super entertainer.

Get away with what? What did she did other than hilarious impressions that everyone still does on talk shows

For some reason, I am quite... shocked? and obsessed? with Debbie Reynolds' televised interviews. They are nothing like talk shows today. These are so raw.

Debbie Reynolds was a great mimic and a had great sense of humor and if she hadn't been so pretty and come up in the "golden age of the movies",she would have been a top comedienne.

Carrie is nothing like her beautiful & funny mother, Carrie didn't talk to her mom for 10 years, no doubt, over something silky, even tho Debbie tried! Daughters can be a pain in the kazoo sometimes, I know, I have two! RIP Debbie, you were & are much loved & adored, I wish Debbie had been my mother, I would have treated her much better than bratty Carrie!

I always felt Jack Paar had real integrity, demonstrating that by his walking off "The Tonight Show" in 1960, because NBC had censored/deleted one of his jokes from the previous nights broadcast. That night, after about five minutes, he said he was leaving The Tonight Show, adding "There must be a better way of making a living than this.", then walked offstage. Three weeks later, after NBC apologized, he returned with his razor-sharp wit, “As I was saying when I was interrupted....When I walked off, I said that there must be a better way to making a living than this. Well, I’ve looked, and there isn’t."

The older footage was after Eddie left her for Elizabeth. Jack said "EDDIE IS OUT OF HIS MIND!" She was repairing the damaged Eddie did to her character and reputation

When I was little, I got to stay up late then this episode came on. My mother told me to go to bed. :D Debbie was always a dynamo. My fave was How the West Was Won because it showcased all of her various talents. Rest in Peace.

IMO the best Bette Davis impression was Kaye Ballard doing Bette Davis dubbing her own movie in Italian. It might still be up on youtube. But Debbie was a hoot, too.

Debbie was a very good mother under the circumstances, do you think it’s easy raising your 2 young kids on your own because your husband left you for your best friend/maid of honor who happens to be Elizabeth Taylor? She was really pushed by people telling she was stopping Elizabeth Taylor and Eddie Fisher from being happy by “delaying” her and eddie’s divorce... she went through a really tough time during her divorce... don’t judge before you know the whole story...
@akrenwinkle
@akrenwinkle 4 жыл бұрын
@@MyrtheNijenhuis I've read a few things about the Debbie-Eddie-Liz triangle, and what comes off to me is that Eddie was never really so keen on Debbie to begin with. He found her a cheapskate and too aggressive... well, too aggressive for the 1950s anyway. That said... I've had it up to my eyeballs with celebs who have "bipolar disorder." I think it's human nature to be extremely happy sometimes, totally miserable other times. If we felt about the same way all the time, what a fucking bore of a life. Also, being on drugs and booze most of the time certainly exacerbates those highs and lows. So no, I don't think bi-polar is as common as we're told, it seems to have become a celeb thing maybe a decade ago, and like all fads, it'll peter out.

@@daviddixon1011 Yep, it's a fad, trendy. And bi-polar isn't the only thing. Here's another example. nypost.com/2020/06/27/how-peer-contagion-plays-into-the-rise-of-teens-transitioning/
