I live in China working as an ESL teacher, my wife is Chinese and I have been incessantly talking to her about Tesla. I have taken her to a Tesla store, but regretfully she hasn't taken one for a test drive yet. As soon as I can arrange one, I am sure we will be new Tesla owners. (special note: the reason why I haven't bought one yet is the fact that I never had a driver's license as I never wanted to drive an ICE car)

Just buy a Chinese EV. There are literally hundred models available. And way cheaper with the incentives. Like the VW Lavida electric that just has been introduced for CN¥160,000 (US$25k) with a range of 275km. Or how about a BYD the new Tang ist gorgeous. Or the BYD Pro. Or how about a mini car with the size of a Smart like the ZhongTai e200 after incentives for CN¥60k (US¥8.5) there is literally no need to buy a Tesla. The BYD e6 Taxis in Shenzhen, show the development. I was just in e6 that has driven 317,000km in 18 month! You do have super charger stations in Shenzhen with up to 600(!) stalls. There is a wave coming of cheap reliable Chinese cars, that also look gorgeous.

There are plenty of reasons to criticize renewables. The German experiment is imploding. It gave them nothing but expensive electricity and bad emissions. I'm comparing against nuclear of course, not fossil fuel. If Germany had spent their hundreds of billions of renewables Euros on reactors they would have had a carbon free grid and cheap, reliable electricity by now. It's absolutely amazing how renewables supporters can say that climate change is an immediate existential threat and then go on to completely reject nuclear although it's both lower carbon, safer, more reliable, doesn't need storage, takes up very little land, and enabled the fastest buildout of grid electricity in history. It's more or less a religion at this point.

Unless you have the shares delivered instead of held electronically at a broker (like 99% of people) the broker can and will lend them for shorting regardless of whether you have a sell order active. In the same way a bank loans out your deposits. They just need to hold enough shares in reserve to ensure any actual sales can be transferred.

When I decided to buy an EV in 2017 I wanted a Tesla model 3. At the time, there was a very long delivery period (6 months to a year) so I settled for a Hyundai Ioniq Eelectric. It doesn't have the autonomy of a Tesla but with a much smaller battery (28KWh) I can drive more than 250 km (155 mi) before charging (except in the canadian winter where the cold drastically reduces the autonomy). It cost 10 000 $ less than the model 3 and I'm very satisfied with it. I can't imagine going back to an ICE car. I'm not a fan of conspiracy theories but this one makes a lot of sense.

Well done. I have a Toyota Hybrid, as are all the taxis in Sydney(and no doubt elsewhere) and it is terrific. Uses half the fuel and has great low end torque. Hope that Toyota shelves their silly hydrogen idea, the thought bubble of their aging maestro, and gets with the EV trend. I'm sure that they will see sense; it's all about the availibilty of batteries just now.

With luck I was able to buy my 2018 VW e-Golf before the incentive rebates in Ontario were cancelled by the newly elected provincial government. I love my EV and I agree with the presenters here ... I am not going back to the ICE age!. If I could afford one I would love to test drive and most likely then purchase a Tesla but it seems a remote possibility.

This reminds me of the conspiracy in the 1950's between (I think) GM, tire companies, and bus manufacturers to buy up mass transit companies and close them down. It's why the Twin Cities still have crappy mass transit, after losing the trolleys that once went out even to fairly distant suburbs. They (the conspiring companies) got a slap on the wrist for it. If corporations are people, why don't they ever face the death penalty?

So the Teslas will become mainstream cost in just a few years. They are leading battery development and I predict Legacy auto will have to buy the Tesla “skateboard” or die... I actually witnessed this at SEMA in 1996...There was a firm called Coats Engineering who had invented bolt on replacement heads for the major ICE Engine blocks around the world...the difference was instead of using valves in the heads, they used a rotating lobes on a camshaft for intake and exhaust thereby eliminating up and down movement and converting it to rotary movement. The result was staggering increases in RPM for all engines...the higher RPMs resulted in way more power output or a reduction in displacement to achieve the same power=better fuel efficiency. The entire booth and all materials disappeared after being open 4 hours! I have never seen the technology emerge again.

Yes. All. Of. This. 6 years ago I was using a car share Volt in EV mode with a friend laughing about the future and how all other cars that make noise are somehow broken. We would drive around passed people dining alfresco and could hear their forks and knives clacking on the dinner plates. It was at that moment I saw the future of fully EV cities and the similarities to how they will sound like when it snows heavily in a major city and no cars are out, the softness of the sound is peaceful. I can't wait!

I saw an all-electric city bus !! It was fast and almost silent, its range is rather limited. It is the signal... the metaphor for the mass conversion of autos soon coming. c. 65% of USA electricity production is fossil fuel, including lots of coal. 20% nuclear. So to considerable extent into the foreseeable future it shuffles the oil/natural gas usage from vehicles to central power stations (which are more efficient than cars but still burn the fossil fuels.). Large scale conversion would require immense amounts of lithium (e.g.) and it makes sense oil companies would switch over as they have the global supply chain well oiled.

I had an uncle who died in WWII who was a gifted tinkerer. In his youth, he figured out how to heat his family's house on 5 gallons on oil a month - which was incredible efficiency for the time. The oil company that delivered the heating oil to his family's house heard about it and gave him money for his idea on the provision that he never tells anyone about it. So, yeah, it happens. Also, big oil and the auto industry teamed up in the 40's and 50's to ensure that Los Angeles was a car-based city. After all, cars were the future.

They're kind of glossing over the fact that tesla's stock price actually collapsed last year, and the number of shorts out now is reflecting that. Guys lost me in the end, I've sailed the world 12 times, none of our pressing issues are with the way we manufacture cars or drive them. Our regulations are getting more stringent over time slowly to reduce the life loss of jobs, infrastructure loss etc. We here in the USA adapt well with change but many countries that depend on our employment and money need to be slowly be brought into the 2000 century. If you ever been to India, our major problem is poop, want to save the world; get them and other countries that still poop in rivers to not. Trash that floats is almost always Chinese it seems, mile and miles of floating trash; off their coast. Other countries do not follow these accords like the Kyoto act. even countries like Japan don't follow them. I lived there when Bush said no, Japan made the people follow rules but the companies did business as usual. Most countries are Socialist or close to it, thus making it highly corrupt and an underground network that just takes over when the government taxes too much. Very much like California, Greece, Italy; unintended consequences of gov sicking its nose into things

My buddy bought a Tesla 3 all wheel drive with two motors. It does 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. That beats the 2020 Shelby GT500 Mustang which achieves a 3.3 0-60 speed.

Tires, motors, etc. patents have been bought up by large corporations and shelved because of saving their products. My economics professor in college in 1969 told the entire class about this.

This reminds me when the sugar beverage companies kept marketing and funding studies where it said that fat was the cause for obesity and heart attacks.

Complex carbs are the best source of fuel. Lots of folks making money off erroneous notion that fat is healthy. Of course you need EFAs. Beyond that stay away from fats especially animal/saturated fat and you'll avoid a host of diseases.

Because it is: Eating fatty foods is directly measurable as more lipids in the bloodstream. So the more often that happens to your vascular system, the more plaque builds up in your arteries. Sugar is bad for other reasons, like increased risk of type 2 diabetes and caries, and ingesting excessive calories in any form will make you fat. However keeping your energy intake on level with what you burn, it is physically impossible to gain weight, without violating the law of thermodynamics! So when people claim that soft drinks makes you fat, they are talking about people ingesting more calories than they need on top of what they eat op fat and protein, and in that sense they are right, but it is an unscientific conclusion as the comparison is made on different premises by not using the same calorie intake when comparing High sugar and low sugar diets.
