I agree. Also, in the books about Jack's childhood, Bootstrap saw the trident with his own eyes, so not only should he have been there, but he also should let Henry know it was real and where he last saw it.
@sillvvasensei

And yet Bootstrap hadn't been on there even remotely 100 years. Given that Will and Elizabeth are approximately the same age, and I'm pretty sure Bootstrap didn't have Will while on the Dutchman, it's logical to assume that Bootstrap had only been on the Dutchman for no longer than Elizabeth had been alive. And at the end of the movie, I don't think Elizabeth looked anywhere close to 100.

Or or is the compass a nautical genie? Anyone ever used it under water?? Ever find it funny how the compass is mastered by Jack?? 7:13 in the movie. The Pearl is the Fastest ship on the seas. Enchanted and cursed. Reason why when he died he was challenged with reward. The movie is Strange Tides. Let me set the scene so I can explain the rant. Huge Depp fan. Knowing now what I did not know then. But know what I know??? 😒🧐🤯🤦‍♂️😳 epic. Once acquiring the pearl is all a manner of. Prospective. Just need a crew?? Depends on the destination. And Um while I am on this rant. Pause 7:03 in blah blah blah. Ship!!!! And first mate!! Not gonna Fk me…????!!!! “Mr. Gibs, You may throw my hat.” (Jack Sparrow) “Now pick it up.”(Johnny Depp). 🔀🔀🔀😏🧐🧐👏👏🤯🤯🤯. Attention mind I have just been blown. I mean do I need the rabbit hole of Lone Ranger?? I mean there is Black Mass. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️. I mean who am I??? Just a fan who loves #RabbitHOLES ima tell u this. I was him. I make my own pirate movie. All out my story my way. And I will call it First mate. Also I am ex Navy. So I know shit. If gibs is always the first choice it is easy 2 find what u want. Just saying. Rule 1 Never Fk the home team. Rule 2. We are the home team. Rule 3. Never forget rules 1-2. 😈😈😈. Me personally that comes with responsibility. Except my crew. And this is all only 7:03 in. Oh baby it’s gonna get good. Sorry for the rant🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

One thing missed here is that the Wicked Wench is the same ship as the Black Pearl: In a sea fight the Wicket Wench caught fire and sank. Captain Jack Sparrow made a deal with Davy Jones to raise her from the depths, outfitted the charred and blackened ship with black sails and renamed her the Black Pearl. It wouldn't be strange if the compass got lost then, only to en up in the hands of Tia Dalma.

Knowing that, I wonder if there was some sort of elaborate setup to destroy Depp's reputation as Captain, I mean, the writers didn't like him or couldn't understand his role (like you said), then there's the toss up whether or not he's going to be in a sixth movie after that disaster with "she who should not be named". Honestly, I gave it a lot of thought and it was all in timing.

I don't have a problem with the whole betrayal of the compass because he lends it to Will and Elizabeth to save himself, he doesn't BETRAY the compass and when he gives it to gibbs it's so that gibbs can save himself. In this movie he flat out sells the compass and for a bottle of rum at that, now that's BETRAYAL. My biggest issue is the origins of the compass as they've already explained before that Jack got it from calypso not his Captain so like you said he either lost it or gave it too his Captain after bartering it from calypso.

well atleast he gave it to will before dropping him off the ship. who then bartered it to cutler beckett, wouldnt you consider that as betrayal? also he didn't always have it. Jack bartered the compass off of tia dalma. so either he gave it away in his younger years or lost it and found it later in tia dalma's shop. Either way, If you throw the compass in the ocean, wouldnt that be a betrayal. With gibbs: gibbs helped him, he gave him the compass to escape - barter.

The major plot point that annoys me of the film is the fact that all Henry needed to do was to warn Jack to not trade away his compass, this way Salazar wouldn't be able to get jack, and he would be still stuck there. Also why the fuck would Jack trade his compass for rum when it is among his beloved possessions. The logic would be that he pretends to sell it, and then steals it back. Sounds more like a Jack Sparrow thing to do. Also, Jack was more drunk and stupid in this film ever, he didn't have a proper character arc, motivation or reason to be there other than other people wanting him dead. The only possible development could be: Jack has lost faith in freedom because he is not able to free the black pearl, the moment the black peal is free he will be his old self again and get confidence. But all he needed to do was to steal Barbossa's sword, which he is smart enough to figure out, he is jack sparrow after all. ................... The plot should be: Jack tries to steal Barbossas sword, in exchange he trades the compass with the sword. Now that the compass is traded Salasar is free and will hunt for Jack and the compass. This way both barbossa and jack would have a race to get the trident Or something like that.
@zarathos4666
@zarathos4666 7 жыл бұрын
Jack being more stupid and drunk then past films, I thought was because he was losing everything. His ship was in bottle. And had no way of getting it out. He crew lost faith in him and abandoned him. Will and Elizabeth seemed to grow hateful of him. Not sure the reason for that but, they were two of his few friends. Jack's reputation was lost also. The wanted posters went down to under 5 pieces of sliver, for his capture. Like he wasn't even worth it, anymore. The Great Captain Jack Sparrow lost everything and was reduced to a nobody and so he became a drunken nobody.
@danielgutierrez7727
@danielgutierrez7727 7 жыл бұрын
Henry wasn't in any position to warn Jack about it because he didn't know about the compass' powers. He only knew that the compass was somehow the key to releasing Salazar, not the how. Also, he was locked and about to be hanged for treason. Jack traded his compass because he truly believed this was the end of the line for him. The movie made that clear. Yeah, Jack looked really bad, but that was the point. Jack was an old man (I think almost sixty by this point) whose best days were behind him. In the end, he gained redemption by finally getting back the Pearl, his crew (even the monkey finally accepting him), watching Will's journey coming to an end, and finally riding into the sunset. Jack was smart enough to never try to steal anything from Barbossa. Not only he didn't know about the power of Triton's sword, but also trying to steal from a guy who could hang him with a swift movement of his sword (like Blackbeard himself did to him before) would be really dumb.

Zarathos on the contrary. Barbossa especifically mentioned how Blackbeard took control of the Pearl when he lost his leg. Besides, Barbossa made changes to it but his main ship was still the Queen's Anne Revenge on DmtnT
@MarkFilipAnthony
@MarkFilipAnthony 7 жыл бұрын
Zarathos yes, but this isn't the first time he has lost the black pearl, or people/his friends has gone against him, or he has been forgotten. what used to be cool about jack sparrow was that no matter how bad the situation he was always able to buy himself out of it somehow. in the first film he wasn't funny because he was a drunk, he was funny because u never new if he was a drunk, stupid or really smart. He didn't have the black pearl then, a crew, and he was even sentenced to death. They even showed that he keeps having bad luck. But the cool thing about him was despite being the most unlucky person in the world, he would always find away out of a situation. if there was a powerstruggle, somone with power he would find away to use their power against themselves.

Its my belief that between the third and fourth movies when Barbossa became a privateer under the employment of King George, he probably met Carina's mom during his service to the Crown and she gave birth to her and died around the time Hector had to set off to find the Fountain of Youth. And since On Strangers Tide takes place approximately within a year or two of At World's End, that puts Carina around Henry's age.

The compass origins was the very reason that distracted me from enjoying the whole movie. Plot holes in movies are common, but when inconsistencies shows up in a story that was meant in continuity, it ruins viewing experience when audiences/fans could not control their head from pondering questions and losing their attention towards the screen. If there was any form of comic relief, it would've been more amazing if they added a reminiscent scene like this : Henry Turner : You knew my father? Jack Sparrow : I knew your grandfather, mate. A good man, and a good pirate too. *plot thickens with a sword fight* Imagine that. Carina was basically a slap-in character that doesn't make sense and Henry had ZERO character development. If anyone were to compare the way how Will and Elizabeth was introduced in POTC 1, you can clearly see how bad this movie was made.

The events that are mentioned like the compass thing and Barbossa conceiving Carina can be explained and can just barely be squeezed into the timeline however they also ignored some of the Jack Sparrow books which are considered canon. One such is of how Jack got the WIcked Wench off Cutler Beckett. And how different the Trident looks. Also Will should have no reason to fear his crew finding Henry and he should not be mutating into a monster as he is doing the job of ferrying souls. Also the Davy Jones twist should not be possible. Really it seems the directors just chose to ignore bits of previous canon so they could create their own story. which is a tragedy.

Salazar and his crew were permanently undead, just like how Barbossa and his crew were in the first POTC film. So no matter what Will did, he couldn't actually keep his word as captain of the Dutchman to ferry all the souls lost at sea to the afterlife. Plus I'm inclined to think that if you spent that much time underwater you're bound to have some sealife stuck on you at some point.

Henry tries to drown himself at sea more than once, and each time instead of taking him on board or ferrying his soul he sends him back to his mother. Therefor, he is not fulfilling his duty and thats why he is barnacle face. There is also no loved ones allowed on board unless they are part of the crew, which Will breaks every time his son wants to talk to him. Also, his crew come out when they are shanghaiing someone into service, so Will tries to get Henry to leave before they even see him.

How about the plothole that Jack Sparrow didnt start out as a pirate, but a merchant on the Wicked Wench. He worked for the East India Trading Company (Beckett) at that time. Beckett told him to transfer a "shipment" somewhere....once Jack saw the "shipment" were slaves, he freed them and thus Beckett sunk his ship, which at the time was the Wicked Wench. Thats when Sparrow pleaded with Davey Jones to resurrect the Wicked Wench from the depths of the sea and make it the fastest ship (even faster than the Dutchman itself) and to give it black sails and renaming it the Black Pearl. Now we see why he loved the Pearl so much, he traded his soul for it. But if this is true, then the young Sparrow here in Dead Men Tell No Tales wasnt a pirate....but if he wasnt a pirate, why was Salazar hunting him? Anybody else see this?

Well, I just don't get why he would trade the compass for a bottle of rum that cost a silver coin WHEN HE HAD A GOLD COIN IN HIS POCKET! A few minutes prior to that we just saw him take the last (and only) remaining coin from the bank vault they robbed - and since we haven't seen him spend it, I'll assume he still has it. Also his being drunk is no excuse as we've seen Jack do a lot of pretty smart and well thought-out things while drunk - so he should at least be aware that he has the coin to pay for a bottle of rum.

Also another plot hole(s) pretty much EVERYONE missed is Will's face and his reaction of the his crew potentially seeing his son. 1. Will's face. Now we all heard everyone in PotC At World's End say the reason Davy Jones looks the way he does is because he didn't do his job. He was supposed to carry souls that died at sea to the other side, but because he was pissed at Calypso for standing him up and sticking him with a shitty job for all eternity (until he made it possible to be murdered) he stopped. As punishment him and his crew turn into ugly sea creatures/barnacle people. Now we all know Will does his job to the T. He has no reason not to. So why did he have the curse barnacles? 2. His reaction about the crew possibly seeing his son. A. In case you forgot William (we didn't) one of your crew members IS YOUR DAD! LET HIM MEET HIS GRANDSON! B. YOURE THE MOTHER FUCKING CAPTAIN! If you say "don't touch my baby!" They're not gonna touch your baby! C. Again AS LONG AS YOU DO YOUR JOB YOU HAVE NO CURSE! The whole "part of the crew part of the ship" bullshit came from Davy Jones spending hundreds of years collecting souls to become sea themed decor on the walls! (End of rant.)

I think it had to do Will's heart being cut out. Jones primarily cut his heart out so that he would no longer feel any compassion and heart ache, and by doing so became very corrupt and brutal. Will, after taking his place, is now suffering those exact same effects. He's been away from his heart from too long, and now he's starting to become a monster, and for all we know, he could have already started to do the same stuff that Jones was doing.

I can't remember how DMTNT/SR presented it exactly but I got the impression that young Henry might have tried drowning himself to see his father more than once. If that was the case then Will's failure to deliver him to the world beyond would bring the punishment down upon him. Hiding him from the crew helps stop dissent from those who think the boy should be treated as one of the dead.

What's strange about it is?!", The ghost of Captain Salazar already knowing about the compass and it's abilities, and where to find it. Captain Salazar knew what pirates are, and how to kill them on the open sea no matter their numbers, he didn't care what their individual names were. In his ghost form, Captain Salazar already knew Jack's full name, but at the time of the great battle between Captain Salazar and the pirate allied ships, Jack Sparrow was just a second mate.

It can be up for interpretation. Jack shot him, creating a wound that would have no effect. He was then freed of the curse before the would would heal, thus inflicting a fatal wound on a then mortal. With a curse being broken, I assume that the Dutchman breached like at the end of At Worlds End, all of the barnacles fell off, & Wills heart magicked itself from the chest into the chest (wordplay lol).

Salazar's crew, once their curse is broken, can be seen healing, even the crew that were the smallest bits of body left from the ship exploding. Likewise, Will's curse would have healed his absent heart, either going back into his chest in one way or another, or by regrowing inside him.

This theory seems a bit of a stretch. The theory I have is that what he fears the most changes. When he first gave away the compass his greatest fear was released Davy Jones and the kraken. Once that was gone he gave it away again releasing his greatest fear at the time. This makes sense because he assumed that the pirate killer was dead. However he knew Davy Jones was coming for him hence looking for the key and thus his greatest fear, was Davy Jones.

As for how Jack got the compass, I came up with a better solution: Jack went to see Dalma (Calypso imprisoned) and asked her for something that would make him the best pirate the world had ever seen. Then she made a prophecy for him, and with her magic she changed the course of fate to make Jack earn the compass somehow in the future. So Jack getting the compass from his dead captain is thanks to Dalma, thanks to the prophecy she made for him. Do you think this solves the plot hole?

I have a way that makes your theory work with the way we saw things pan out, it goes like this When Tia says Jack bartered for the compass with her, you get the sense that he didn't barter for it in the traditional sense, I mean, this is Calypso we're talking about here. I saw someone else's comment on a video clip of Jack meeting with Tia Dalma, about how the captain of the Wicked Wench we see in PotC 5 tasked Jack with stealing the compass from Tia, and she caught Jack in the act. Tia then asks Jack why he isn't stealing it for himself, and he tells her how he's just a nobody, a boy who was sold into slavery by his grandma, and he tells her how he wishes to be the greatest pirate ever, and she tells him, "What if you could be?" so Jack made a deal with her. With what we know of Jack's character, this all actually makes sense. going along this story, I assume Tia said something along the lines of, "Take the compass, go back to your captain with it, tell him what I'm about to tell you. This compass will lead anyone to their greatest desire, as long as you remain faithful to it, and never give it up. Betray it though, and it will unleash your greatest fear, and it will bring a reckoning upon you! Tell that to your captain, and tell him this as well, that payment for the compass will be forestalled, but one day, the price will come due, and he will pay it in full, a fair price for such a compass." Now for the deal, you have to keep in mind that Jack was just a crewman, even as a first mate of a pirate captain, he knew he couldn't afford whatever Tia wanted for it, but he certainly didn't want to steal it from her without giving her something of worth, so Jack made a deal with the only thing he knew was everything to him, his future. Jack made a deal with Tia where the price of the compass would be paid when he became captain, he certainly didn't have the captain dying in mind when he said this, but this is what Tia wanted, as she knew Jack being the captain of the Wicked Wench in the right moment would save the all the pirates, and all the pirate lords who could free her, including Jack, the pirate lord who would swing the vote in order to make Elizabeth Pirate King, who would then decide to free her, from death. Jack bartered for it in the sense he knew it was eventually going to belong to him, after serving his captain for a time.

Were they "double cursed"??? Stuck in the Triangle AND undead weirdos? 3. How did Captain Barbosa know how to solve the puzzle to find the Trident? It seems as if he helped set it up, seeing as the missing piece was a star he calls "home" and he named his daughter after it? If he knew how to get the Trident, and knowing his lust for power, why didn't he get it himself for the last 20+ years?? And if he was "saving" the discovery of it for his daughter to discover, why didn't he just give basic ass instructions to her in the book, like, "Hey, this is your Father. The ruby will do blah blah blah and look for an island on blah blah day and remember to write or look me up and let me know how your adventure to find the most powerful weapon on the seas went! Until then, I'll be scheming on this other piddly stuff and becoming undead for a few Aztec gold pieces, running an armada of pirate ships, sailing to the Worlds End to pick up this dude that I don't like so we can go after another piddly treasure....all the while ignoring this awesome weapon so I can save it for you to find.....maybe...one day..." 4. Why is the ship cursed, coming to life as a sentient being that eats pirate ships? Wtf is that about?? 5. How the hell did a little kid track down the Flying Dutchman? 6. How the hell did a little kid dive down that deep, landing on the deck of the Dutchman, then survive the ship surfacing that fast?? Why didn't he succumb to the bends and die? 7. Also! (Shit I'm back!) Jack was not a pirate when he sailed on the wicked wench (soon to be black pearl). That was when he worked for the East India trading company. He was first mate and one of his old pirate girlfriends (can't remember her name but she was his first kiss, and was briefly a pirate lord, but it was before the war obviously) invaded his ship. His captain was so pissed off that not only had his ship been captured by a pirate, but by a female pirate, that he had an (it was something with his heart, not exactly a heart attack but close to it?) and died. Jack then negotiated for her to only take half the cargo. She agreed, and they did what Jack does best 😉 then he went back to port Royal where the owner of the wicked wench Cutler Beckett, officially named him the captain of the ship.

Jack was _branded_ as a pirate by Beckett simultaneously with the sinking of the Wench (which, upon reanimation, became the Black Pearl.) However, this does not mean the Wench's crew were not in practice pirates before being formally recognized as such. They were most likely privateers, as we know the Wench's crew worked for the East India Company between Morgan's death and Jack's branding as a pirate.

The biggest hole of all? That Jack and/ or Barbosa would actually want to break every curse of the seas... Because I know Jack was always on the hunt for the next power/ curse. He's not your usual pirate. And what's with Barbosa? The man who killed Blackbeard, who sacrificed his leg, and would give his left arm too just for a shot at Blackbeard, almost begging for mercy from an unknown junk sea cop that he probably didn't even meet before Salazar's curse? ( Mainly because no one escaped Salazar when he was alive) And what's Salazar compared to Blackbeard or Davy Jones? This movie is for all those who nagged at "On Stranger Tides" being not so good, well I definitely enjoyed it more...

Agreed on your first point. The specific phrase used was never betray the compass and if you betray the compass then yada yada yada. In Dead Man's Chest all Jack does is let Elizabeth use the compass and even guides/manipulates her to use the compass the way Jack would. Elizabeth said her heart's desire was to find Will but Jack guided her towards her heart's desire being the way to save Will aka finding the chest which is what Jack wanted. At World's End was the same way. He gave it Will to further his own ends and probably always intended to get it back from him. DMTNT is different because he was giving it away for a bottle of rum which the compass deemed a betrayal. I'm much more inclined to call the second one an actual plot hole. Yeah we can make it work where it isn't but it feels like the screen writers just forgot about that throwaway line in the Dead Man's Chest (I know I did).

How I thought it fit into canon was that he wanted the compass from the captain, so he went to Tia Dalma to barter for her to cause the captain's death. She doesn't kill him, but through magic she could've brought Salazar to them and made sure he died and gave it to Jack.

Other plot holes include at the end of On Stranger Tides, Barbossa switches back to his pirate outfit, but in this movie he's switched back to his privateer outfit. He's also supposed to have the Sword of Cortes(Blackbeards sword) which would have helped him outrun Salazars ship. Its quite clear the director didnt care about continuity.

I would have thought Jack would have been sent back to the Locker, or Davy Jones would have been resurrected, as it was established that they were his greatest fears before. Tia Dalma gave Jack the compass previously, not his former captain as a teenager. Jack has traded the compass before, perhaps he did not betray it (giving it away with intention of abandoning it) but other people did. It's plot holes upon plot holes and incontinuity upon incontinuity. However with a few quick fixes it would be easy to change this film and remove these plot holes. Some can just literally be small footage edits or cuts.

Maybe the agreement (bartering) made with Tia Dalma did not put the compass in Jack's hands at the moment of the agreement. Perhaps the agreement put Jack in the position to become the owner of the compass through correct transfer. Which would also explain why the curse was never lifted the other times Jack "loaned" the compass out to people. He never gave up on the power of the compass till he sold it for the bottle of rum.

The compass only unleashes one's greatest fears after it is betrayed, but that implies getting rid of it, trashing it, destroying it, or giving it up for something of little value. Giving it to a friend for their benefit, or in Jack's case, for one's own plan in the long run, doesn't break that rule.

There's nothing wrong with enjoying a movie eventhough it's not a good movie (I enjoyed Baywatch very much). Just saying film making wise, there is a lot that wrong with this movie. It's not just the plot holes in this movie, but also that it ignores the whole franchise. And no I'm not even talking about Compass-gate The fact that 5 years has passed in the Pirates world and Will Turner's kid is 25, just doesn't make sense. The curse that was lifted of Will Turner would kill him instantly since he was stabbed in the heart. Salazars pirates were triple cursed? Not only trapped and undead, but also unable to get on land... Why? Whatever happened to all the crew from the previous movies? People can say that it's just a movie, but that's not an excuse for poor writing. And box office results are not always an indicator of a good or bad movie

No, it doesn't make sense, just like many other plot holes in this movie, which is full of them. Like Barbossa's daughter's age, Sparrow's piece of 8, his acquiring of the compas and becoming the captain of the Black Pearl, Will Turner's look and behaviour in this movie, if Barbossa knew how to find poseidon's trident then why didn't he do that, stupid plot twists made by someone with no ideas nor inspiration. And probably many more but I am not going to think of all of them. And saying that people who notice movie mistakes are dumb only shows your ignorance and probably young age.
@jaegernate1378
@jaegernate1378 7 жыл бұрын
Kakolukiam9863 after watching the movie 4 times I figured it all out using my 22 year old young age logic. Jack wasn't given the piece of 8 by his crew, he was given the bead strand that he wears in 4 and 5 (doesnt have the silver coin on the end). The compass was always his, the way the dying captain said "it points to what YOU want most" implied that Jack surrendered his compass to the captain bringing misfortune i.e. the Silent Mary upon them. Will turner is barnacled up because (as dark as this sounds) he keeps bringing his son back from the dead everytime they meet. Resulting in his inabilty to do his job (ferry souls) resulting in Davy Jones Disease. The Dutchmen's crew hate Will for that because he was on the verge of turning his whole crew back into sea monsters everytime he did it, and thats why he said it wasnt safe for Henry to be there. Barbossa didnt know where the trident was, he looted the book from a captain in a previous raid and paid no heed to its scribbles. His daughter is around the same age as Henry, Hector most likely came across Carina's mother shortly after at Worlds End (after credits are 10 years later). Its safe to assume shortly after his battle with Salazar, Beckett would formally make Jack Captain of the wicked Wench, where he would then take part in slave trading for the East India Trading company. Some things were different then the canonical books but the logic is sound.
@Kakolukiam9863
@Kakolukiam9863 7 жыл бұрын
But Jack's piece of 8 was cut off whole and burnt by Barbossa, not only the coin (what suggests that the whole thing was a piece of 8 not just the metal part). In 4th part he has it again although without a coin and he could just buy the new one to replace it but in 5th movie they behave like this is still the same which he was given when he was young even though it cannot be the same. (and where were the pyrate lords when spanish was whipping pyrates off btw?). The whole compass thing in 5th movie is very far-fetched and terribly written story. How could Salazar possibly know about the compass anyway? Turner's son wasn't dying... He was just locating the Dutchman and landing on it's deck. And Will wasn't fishy in the post credit scene in 3rd movie. Also there was kid's grandfather in the Dutchman's crew, he would like to see his grandson. And for the god's sake Turner is a Captain of the Dutchman, he can do whatever he wants, somehow the crew did not hate Deavy Jhones for what HE was doing and u say they hated Will. Barbossa indeed could not possess the trident because he did not have the ruby but why would he give it away if it is worth so much? It's not his style at all and how could he not pay heed to note's scribbles if he got himsels a tattoo of these stars if i remember well? I did not read books all i know about PotC is from the movies and yet there is still so many plot holes in the 5th movie that it simlpy hurt me to watch it. And that thing about the age was not to you but to Elias Crooker, honestly people with attitude like his really piss me off.

The whole plot of how Salazar died and who he was is wrong. Salazar was (originally) a pirate as well. (I hate when they change shit 😑) Salazar and jack were gambling. Salazar used the help of a witch doctor to cheat so he'd win, but Jack also cheated (better) and jack won. This enraged Salazar because he thought the witch doctor betrayed him, so he attempted to kill the witch doctor and jack, jack escaped but the witch doctor gets shot, he then curses Salazar which is why he's the walking dead. Salazar blames Jack for his curse (instead of himself for being dumb enough to try and kill a voodoo witch doctor 😂) so he swore that he'd kill him one day.

In terms of how he acquired the compass the second explanation seems more valid and what I personally believe. As far as how Salazar was freed I’m not sure. You mentioned when you give it away it leads you to what you fear the most and if so that would kind of explain it. Before Henry informed Jack about Salazar, Jack thought he was dead and therefore had no need to fear him. It’s only when he starts fearing him and gives the compass away that the curse is broken. What I find more confusing, however is how the compass was linked to Salazar and the Devil’s triangle in the first place.

I remember reading a comic about how he got the compass from Tia. It indicated that she was the proper owner of it and it seemed to take place after he was branded as a pirate by Lord Becket, but before he was mutinied by Barbossa. My guess is it was stolen from her. Later on, it was given to Jack by the dying captain. But after that, it returned to her because she was the owner of it, so Jack had to barter for it from her. The only question is did it unleash her greatest fear when she bartered it away? Maybe not. She would've known about it, but I don't recall any fear on her face. Maybe her greatest fear was Davy Jones, who was already on the loose. Or maybe she had a means of overriding the compass' power.
