New collectors might want to use a Qtip or a toothpick to get the acid exactly where you want it, minimizing unnecessary damage. Probably also better to do a mild basic solution rather than pure water and a thorough rinse after. Also probably had the acid on there for way too long, you could hear Kevin saying that’s enough quite a few times. You can always apply more acid, you can’t add metal back. Great video though! Definitely a fun thing to do between hunting boxes!

You can stop the nic- a-date reaction by washing the coin and then dunking the coin in a water baking soda solution. Soda neutralizes the acid. you can get a controlled drop by using a pipette and rubber bulb.

I think that with the hobby growing day by day and the demand for dated Buffalo nickels increases it's going to become more and more acceptable for restored buffalo nickel dates.

Not a fan of restoring dates, but I get it. Experienced the opposite end of it as a novice collector a few decades ago. Bought a Buffalo for $6 at the time, but a few months later, I could no longer read the date on it. Could not get more than 50 cents for it years when I had to sell my collection. I don't mind if people who sell them are upfront about the coin being nic a dated, and I also now know what a coin looks like after that.

Great to see the guys back together making another great video. I bought a lot of 200 date less buffalo nickels on eBay last year and had a fun time finding the dates just like this.

That was fun to watch. I found a bunch of dateless buffalos without dates. I nic'd a few and found a 14s, 15d, and a 16d. That was a "didn't see that coming" moment. Great video. And heading over to see Kevin's page. 👍💯

Good morning. I just started my penny collection and I have some that in the internet says that worth lots money but I went to some coin shops to appraisal and they said is worthless and others don’t deal with it. So who should I trust? How do I know how much it really worth and where to sell them. Please help me out. Thank you.

I think the nickel @ 9:38 is a 1928 not a 26. Freeze the frame. Also, value wise the 1914s has a large "cud" going from his nose to his forehead which would really increase the value of the coin - unless it's just a drop of water. Thanks for the post

I watched one of your videos a few days. Ago where you and Kevin were showing ridiculous prices for coins on ESTY. I tried to rewatch it again but couldn’t find it. Anyway, I put in a $10 bid on EBAY for a 1950D Jefferson nickel. Someone got it for $11. I saw your video where you actually found one. In you opinion is $10 overpaying for that nickel? Been coin roll hunting nickels about 2 years and have never found one yet.

Ok, I left a comment earlier stating I was going to buy some nic-a- date and use it on 5 buffalo nickels without dates. I received it a couple days ago and applied it to the date area as Kevin did in your video. I had a 1916 and a 1917, neither had mint marks. The other 3 didn’t reveal a date and I kept applying the acid until it probably ate thru the entire date area! But at least I have two more buffalo nickels with dates.

The 1921-S had a weak date, but visible, and didn't need to have Nic-A-Date applied. If it could have been compared to another 1921, even a 1921-P, you'd see it would have been a 1921-S.

I need to get some Nic a Date and go through my dateless Buff's. I know it takes away some value but so does having no data and at least you know. Great album filler at minimum.

After watching this video I ordered some nic-a-date and plan to use it on 5 Buffalo nickels I have without dates. I have found some nice 1935, 1936 and 1937 Buffalo nickels and one 1927 which is not so good.

Careful! You don't want to get that acid on your skin. After all it is acid and could cause injury or burns. There is a 1916 philadelphia mint doubled die that will bring big money even if nick-a-dated.

What exactly is the point here the coins are so worn they have very little value so reveling the date accomplished nothing. Most old coins have very little value in the first place and this certainly isn’t increasing it.
